Obituary - John Newton Goddard

John Newton Goddard, 80, Cleveland, MO, died Monday, August 1, 2018 at his home. 

Memorial services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, August 11, 2018 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville, MO, with visitation from 10:00-11:30.

Police Chase in Cass County

On Thursday August 2nd, around 1:30 am a Cass County Deputy attempted to stop a silver Ford F150 in the area of Catron and Cedar Street in Belton for a traffic violation. The vehicle fled at a high rate of speed from the deputy. The deputy pursued the vehicle onto northbound I-49 and into Grandview, Mo. 

The suspect vehicle entered the active construction area on I-49 and struck a construction vehicle. The two occupants of the vehicle abandoned the Ford F150 and fled on foot according to construction workers at the scene.

A search of the area was conducted with Cass County Sheriff's K9 and Grandview Police. Cass County K9 Champ located the passenger of the vehicle hiding in a small wooded area near I-49. The subject was taken into custody and transported to the Cass County Jail. 

A second suspect was not located. Further investigation revealed that the vehicle was stolen from Overland Park Kansas.

Obituary - Ruth Ellen Kline

Ruth Ellen Kline, 69, Garden City, MO, died Monday, July 30, 2018 at Research Medical Center in Kansas City, MO. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, August 4, 2018 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Adrian, MO with visitation from 12:00-1:00. Memorial contributions may be made to Ruth Kline Memorial Fund, c/o Atkinson Funeral Home.

Ruth was born February 5, 1949 in New Berlin, New York, the daughter of Robert and Caroline (Fuller) Wayzkowski. Ruth retired from Yoss Thriftway after 10 years. She did not require much to be content in life. Simple pleasures were enough for Ruth. A simple gathering is all she would want at the end.

Ruth is survived by her sister, Barbara; daughter, Doris Dennis; son and daughter-in-law, Nate and Cherail Kline; grandchildren, Kelly and Jacob, Alex and Dylan; great-grandson, Aiden, and many cousins, nieces, nephews, as well as great nieces and great nephews.

Rich Hill teen injured in Bates County Crash


On 8/1/18 around 11:05pm the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Bates County along with Bates County Sheriff's Deputies and Rich Hill Police Department responded to a one vehicle accident on Missouri A Highway at PP Highway west of Rich Hill.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 1998 Dodge driven by 17 year old Jadyn N. Swickhamer of Rich Hill, Missouri struck a cow in the roadway then traveled off the right side of the roadway.

Mr. Swickhamer sustained minor injuries in this accident and he was transported by his father to Bates County Memorial Hospital in Butler, Missouri for treatment.

The vehicle totaled and towed from the scene by Gilkey's Tow of Rich Hill.
