One arrested Two injured in Bates County Crash

On 8//4/18 around 7:04pm the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Bates County along with Bates County Sheriff's Deputies and Rockville Fire Department responded to a one vehicle accident on Route B at Route P in rural SE Bates County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2004 Chevrolet driven by 21 year old Justin D. Cooper of Butler, Missouri failed to negotiate a curve causing the vehicle to become airborne traveling through a fence, ditch and field before coming to rest.

Mr. Cooper sustained moderate injuries in this accident and he was transported by private vehicle to Bates County Memorial Hospital in Butler for treatment.

A passenger in the vehicle 38 year old Jesse F. Wilbanks of Freeman, Missouri was seriously injured in this crash and he was transported by ambulance to Research Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri for treatment.

The vehicle was totaled and towed from the scene by Don's Tow and Recovery of Butler, Missouri.

After the accident Mr. Cooper was arrested for 1.)Driving While Intoxicated 2.)Careless and Imprudent Driving Involiving a Accident 3.)No Seat Belt 4.)No Insurance 5.)Leaving the scene of a accident with serious physical injury.

He was citied with all these violations and released to seek medical treatment for his injuries.

Appleton City man seriously injured after being found under burning motorcycle in St. Clair County

On 8/4/18 around 9:17pm the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Appleton City along with St. Clair County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a report of a man trapped under a burning motorcycle on private property around 2 miles south of Appleton City.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the unknown year Honda Motorcycle was found on fire and laying on 50 year old John K. Davis of Appleton City, Missouri.

Mr. Davis sustained serious injuries in this accident and he was transported University of Kansas Medical Center for treatment. The investigation into what happened is still ongoing at this time from the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The bike was totaled and left at the scene.

Vehicle Fire In Butler


Shortly after 11:30pm last night The Butler Fire Department was called out to a vehicle fire at the city matinence barn on Mill Street.

Two city of Butler dump trucks were damaged by this fire and it is unknown at this time the cause of the fire.

Obituary - Christopher John Allen

Christopher John Allen, age 48, of Jasper, Indiana passed away at 10:25 AM on Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at home.

Chris was born in Eureka, Kansas on February 19, 1970 to J.L. and Sadie (Howard) Allen. He married Melissa Bass on May 24, 1997 at the First Christian Church in Pittsburg, Kansas.

He received a B.S. Degree in Wood Technology from Pittsburg State University in Kansas. He was the owner and operator of Creative Storage in Ireland, Indiana.

Chris was an active member of Redemption Christian Church in Jasper, where he served on their security team. He previously served as a Cub Scout Leader for Pack 130 and a Boy Scout Leader for Troop 185 in Jasper, and also served as a facilitator for Financial Peace University.

He enjoyed scuba diving, flying Ultralight planes, was an accomplished woodworker, a car fanatic, and Halloween was his favorite holiday. He was a stay at home dad for 12 years and was devoted to his family.

Surviving are his wife, Melissa Allen of Jasper, one daughter, Chloe Allen, and one son Kyle Allen, both at home, his father and step-mother, J.L. and Shirley Allen, Pleasanton, KS, two sisters Nicole Murphy (Steven), Lee’s Summit, KS, Megan Brixey (Chris), Lee’s Summit, KS, and one brother, Jay Allen (Tana), Ft. Scott, KS.

Preceding him in death was his mother, Sadie Allen.

Rev. Chuck Russell will conduct a Celebration of Life at 11:00 AM Tuesday, August 7 at the Cheney Witt Chapel. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Redemption Christian Church and may be left in care of the Cheney Witt Chapel, PO Box 347, 201 S. Main, Ft. Scott, KS 66701. Words of remembrance may be submitted to the online guestbook at cheneywitt.com.
