Heavy Rain Possible Through the weekend


Thursday rain should be a bit scattered, but by Thursday night into Friday rain coverage will increase. 

Still expecting widespread 1-2 inch totals through Friday night, with higher amounts over northeast and central Missouri. 

Uncertainty regarding the time/location of the higher amounts still exists, so stay tuned to the forecast for updates.



McNabb sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole


Kansas Bureau of Investigations Special agents in the Northeast Region of our Field Investigations Division were pleased to close a double homicide case when a Pittsburg, Kansas man was sentenced to life in prison.

David Patrick McNabb, 33, was sentenced today to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

He pleaded no contest to two counts of first-degree premeditated murder for the 2016 deaths of his uncle, Kenneth McNabb, and grandmother, Betty McNabb in Linn County Kansas.

Obituary - Tommy Clayton Spears, Jr.

Tommy Clayton Spears, Jr., 55, Peculiar, MO, died Monday, September 3, 2018 at his home. 

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 6, 2018 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville with visitation from 10:00-11:00. Burial in Peculiar Cemetery, Peculiar, MO.

Tommy was born June 18, 1963 in Kansas City, MO, the son of Tommy C. and Carole Dean (Brownfield) Spears. He was a 1982 graduate of Raymore-Peculiar High School. Tommy worked as a roofer and loved riding his Harley.

Tommy is survived by two sons, Cole Austin Spears and Clayton Thomas Spears, both of Peculiar, MO; step-son, Shane Matt and step-daughter, Chelsea Matt, both of Cleveland, MO and his father, Tommy Spears, Sr., Peculiar.

Parade route will be as follows: Nursery Street to High Street (goes by elementary school), turns onto Ohio Street, will enter the square on Ohio turning onto North Main then turning onto Dakota and then turning onto Delaware (going South) down past Early Childhood Center - back to High School.

BCMH September Employee of the Month

Erick Head is recognized as the Bates County Memorial Hospital Employee of the Month for September, 2018. 

Erick began his employment at BCMH in 2016 as a registration clerk, then transferred to the Finance Department as an accounting clerk. Erick has learned new processes quickly in order to complete job assignments timely and assist other staff as needed. 

He has done an exceptional job in this role. Coworkers enjoy working with Erick and appreciate his pleasant attitude and willingness to work and learn. Erick is an asset to the hospital team.
