Missouri State Highway Patrol seeking public assistance

On 9/18/18 around 6:40pm the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Johnson County along with Johnson County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a pedestrian struck by a vehicle on Missouri 50 Highway just east of CR NW 175.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when a in known vehicle struck 31 year old Nicholas D. Lawson of Osceola, Missouri before fleeing the scene of the accident.

Mr. Lawson sustained serious injuries in this accident and he was transported by Life Flight Eagle to Research Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri for treatment.

Authorities say damage should be to the right front end of the car. If you see a car with significant front end damage or have any information regarding this hit and run, you are asked to contact Missouri State Highway Patrol Troop A at 816-622-0800.

Obituary - Rose Ellen Wittrig

Rose Ellen Wittrig, 99, Harrisonville, Missouri departed this life on Tuesday, September 18, 2018 at the Research Medical Center, Kansas City Missouri.

She is survived by her son, Dean Wittrig, Garden City, Missouri; two daughters, Joan Campbell, Harrisonville, Missouri and Edith Miller and husband Jim, Springfield, Missouri; 8 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; a brother, Dale Grieser, Beemer, Nebraska; other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, September 22, 2018 at the Sycamore Grove Mennonite Church near Garden City, Missouri with burial in the Clearfork Cemetery near Garden City.

Family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Friday, September 21, 2018 at the Dickey Funeral Home, Garden City, Missouri.

Family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the Brotherhood Fund at Sycamore Grove Mennonite Church.

Obituary - Janet S. Gaston

Janet S. Gaston, 73, of Garden City, Missouri, was born, July 19, 1945, in Coffeyville, Kansas, the daughter of Robert C. and Mina L. (Niswonger) Moore. She departed this life, Sunday, September 16, 2018, at her home surrounded with love and family.

Janet was a 1963 Pleasant Hill High School graduate.

On June 10, 1978, she was united in marriage to Charles D. Gaston in Pleasant Hill.

Janet was employed as the Lead Data Specialist for Unity Village in Lee’s Summit. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandkids.

Janet was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her husband Charles Gaston of Garden City; 5 children, Stella Marr of Raymore, Michael (and Kristina) Hoover of Harker Heights, Texas, Shelli (and Kevin) Ray of Archie, Shea (and Duane) Beddo of Harrisonville, and Tami (and Jerry) Foley of Pleasant Hill; one brother, Robert (and Marilyn) Moore of Harrisonville; one sister, Vickie (and Dennis) Chappell of Monroe, Louisiana; 8 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

Cremation has been accorded.

Private family services will be held at a later date. Inurnment will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery.




Obituary - Angie Annette McCale

Angie Annette McCale, 39, Nevada, MO passed away on September 16, 2018 in Nevada. Angie was born March 15, 1979 in Redding, CA to Bee Jay Annette Grout.

Angie grew up in California and attended school there. She obtained her GED and later a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science. She came to Nevada in 2001 and has continued to reside here since that time. Angie worked for a number of years for MNB Railroad as a shuttle driver. She was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan, and liked to collect Sponge Bob memorabilia.

Survivors include her children, Anthony Garcia, Oxnard, CA, Ryan McCale, Kansas City, MO, Leland McCale, Nevada; mother, Bee Jay Grout, Nevada; dad, Ray Jaramillo, Nevada; step-mom, Kayla Horton, Nevada; sister, Tabitha Pinson, CA; step-sister, Zoey Horton, Nevada; brother, Johnathon Jaramillo, Joplin, MO; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by grandparents, Frances Mendez, and Bob and Iva Grout.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 21, 2018 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada with Ray Jaramillo to speak. Friends may call now and until the hour of service at Ferry Funeral Home.

Obituary - Debra “Debbie” Ann Truninger

Debra “Debbie” Ann Truninger, 60, Harrisonville, MO, died Tuesday, September 18, 2018 at the Kansas City Hospice House in Kansas City, MO. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Debbie was born October 18, 1957 in Holden, MO, the daughter of John and Annette (Atkinson) Truninger. She was a 1976 graduate of Harrisonville High School. Debbie had worked for Ford Motor Company until retiring in 1997 and was a former member of the UAW.

Debbie was preceded in death by her father, John Truninger, and her step-dad, Richard Taylor. She is survived by her mother, Annette Taylor, Harrisonville, MO; one brother, Charles Truninger, Harrisonville; three sisters, Denise Carter, Harrisonville, Karen Taylor, McKinney, TX, and Ann Taylor, Redwood City, CA; six nephews, Jason Truninger, Ruben Carter, Adam Preston, Cyrus Truninger, Johnathan Truninger, and Braydon Truninger, and one niece, Nichole Marshall.




Kansas resident busted for meth in Vernon county

More than ¼ pound of meth seized in joint operation Monday evening.

Charges have been filed against a Kansas resident after a lengthy multi-agency investigation. Vernon County Sheriff Jason Mosher said his office along with the Nevada Police Department, the Kansas Bureau of Investigations, and the CNET Drug Task Force have been conducting an investigation into the distribution of illegal narcotics that led to the arrest of a suspect and the seizure of suspected methamphetamines. Mosher said a team of investigators, surveillance personnel and the VCSO Special Response team executed the arrest in a joint operation Monday evening in Nevada, Mo and located the largest drug seizure by the Sheriff’s Office this year. “We recovered more than ¼ pound of suspected methamphetamines that would have been distributed throughout our county and other communities.”

Warrants were issued Tuesday afternoon for the suspect, who has been identified as 32-year-old Jordan Vender, of Bronson, KS. Vender has been charged with felony counts that include:
Trafficking Drugs
Delivery of a Controlled Substance
Possession of a Controlled Substance
Unlawful Possession of a Firearm
Unlawful Use of a Weapon

Vender is currently being held in the Vernon County Jail on a $250,000 cash only bond.
