Updated Obituary - Brenda Lee Hughes

Brenda Lee Hughes, age 65 years, passed away Sunday, September 23, 2018 at her home in Adrian, Missouri. Funeral services for Brenda will be on Friday, September 28, 2018 at 10am at Vansant-Mills Funeral Home, Clinton with interment to follow at Englewood Cemetery, Clinton. 

Visitation will be on Thursday, September 27, 2018 from 6-8pm also at the funeral home. 

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Heartland Hospice and may be left in care of t he funeral home.

Brenda Lee Hughes was born June 15, 1953 in Kansas City, Missouri to Raymond and Ruth (Sizemore) Green. Brenda was married to Edward P Hughes Jr. on December 26, 1970 and they had 3 children. Brenda loved the farm life her favorite was calving seasons. She liked to go bowling and loved crappie fishing. Brenda really liked to travel especially to the beaches of Florida. Brenda enjoyed camping trips and float trips or just being outdoors floating in her pool. She also enjoyed Christmas time and putting up decorations.

Brenda is survived by her husband, Edward Hughes of the home, children, Tonia Grisson, Clinton, Mo, Sandra (Rusty) Claiborne, Urich, Mo, Justin (Sarah) Hughes, Goodfield, Il, sister, Diana (Rusty) Willis, brother, Doug (Melinda) Green, 13 grandchildren, Kayla Roskop, Zachary Roskop, Brittany Roskop, Emilie Bales, Tyler Bales, Averie Bales, Noah Bales, Nathan Bales, Mckenzie Claiborne, Maecy Claiborne, Sydney Claiborne, Landon Hughes, Aubrey Hughes, 6 great-grandchildren, Julian Roskop, Adlian Andrews, Audrey Roskop, Jackson Roskop, Izabelle Roskop, and Paislie Opat.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Vansant-Mills Funeral Home of Clinton, Missouri.

Obituary - George William Giger

George William Giger, 95, Lamar, MO passed away on September 23, 2018 at Cox Barton County Hospital in Lamar following a brief illness. George was born August 17, 1923 in Irwin, MO to Grover Marion and Theo Charlotte (Riddle) Giger. He married Nora Mae Jones on December 23, 1956.

George was raised in Barton County. He served in the United States Army for two years during WWII and also the Korean War. 


Following his time in the service he returned home to the Irwin area where he farmed and raised cattle nearly all of his life. He also drove fertilizer trucks for MFA in Irwin. George lived most of his life in the Irwin area.

Survivors include one sister, Ethel White, Moran, KS; one brother, Marion Giger and his wife Leila, Irwin, MO; special granddaughter, Jennifer Garringer, El Dorado Springs, MO; and he was great-grandpa to Trevyn and Tayah. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one sister, Thelma Owen.

Graveside services with Military Honors will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 28, 2018 at Sheldon Cemetery with Rev. Jerod Lamb officiating. Friends may call now and until the hour of service at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada.
Memorials are suggested to the Sheldon Cemetery in c/o Ferry Funeral Home.

Fatality Accident In Cass County

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office is currently working a Fatality Motor Vehicle Accident on the Northbound side of I-49 just North of Archie (at 341th Street) involving a semi-truck and trailer.

Obituary - James Richard Glaze

James Richard Glaze, of Harrisonville, Missouri was born July 14, 1929 in Lamar, Missouri the son of John and Roselee (Feezell) Glaze. He departed this life on Monday, September 24, 2018 at Lee's Summit Medical Center, Lee's Summit, Missouri surrounded by love and family at the age of 89 years, 2 months and 10 days.

On March 30, 1975, James was united in marriage to Inez Irene (Goucher) McLay in Boise, Idaho. Inez preceded him in death on July 2, 2010. Later he was united in marriage to Marcia (Thompson) Southard on January 2, 2014 in Naples, Florida.

James was employed as a maintenance supervisor for Sawyer of Napa Tannery, Napa, California. He was a member of the Abiding Love Baptist Church, Harrisonville. James was an Army veteran and was very active with the Harrisonville VFW Pos #4409 Honor Guard. He enjoyed fishing, going to the casino, going to auctions, playing bingo, taking trips and driving to get there.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in the death by a daughter, Gwen Yeager and two brothers, Willard and Jack Glaze.

James is survived by his wife, Marcia Southard of the home; three daughters, Barbara Elliott and fiancée Jim Staley, Olathe, Kansas, Sandra Dillon and husband Daniel, Fulton, Kansas, Deborah Wilson and husband Gerald, Kansas City, Kansas; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 4 step-children, John Southard and wife Diane, Vicki Pilcher and husband Mark, Cliff Southard and wife Kelly, Chris Southard and fiancé, Donna Summers; 12 step-grandchildren; 13 step-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Alva Glaze and Earl Glaze and a sister, Mary Sparks all of LaCygne, Kansas; other relatives and many friends.

Cremation. A Celebration of Life Service will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 29, 2018 at the Abiding Love Baptist Church, 24300 E State Rte EE, Harrisonville, Missouri 64701 with Military Honors to follow.

Inurnment will be held at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Higginsville, Missouri at a later date.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Missouri.
