Update: Three people injured in accident off AA Highway

On 10/8/18 around 7:20pm the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Bates County along with Bates County Sheriff's Deputies, Bates County EMS and the Adrian Fire Department responded to a accident on Route AA 4/10 of a mile east of CR NW 12001 in rural Bates County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2013 Ford F-150 was stationary in the right lane of the highway after striking a cow in the roadway. 

The driver 66 year old Donald Wheeler of Drexel, Missouri exited the vehicle. This crash occurred as the 2005 Toyota driven by 52 year old David P. Ruby of Adrian failed to approach the original accident scene with caution and struck a cow and then Mr. Wheeler.

Donald Wheeler sustained serious injuries in this accident and he was transported by Life Flight Eagle to University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia, Missouri for treatment.

Two other people 60 year old Deborah Wheeler of Drexel and 55 year old Marta Ruby of Adrian, Missouri both sustained moderate injuries.

The Toyota was totaled and towed from the scene by Adrian Tow.

Kansas City man arrested in Bates County

On 10/8/18 around 9:29am the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Bates County arrested 33 year old Roberto Irizarry of Kansas City, Missouri.

Mr. Irizarry was arrested for 1.) Two Jackson County Sheriff's Office Misdemeanor Warrants.

He was booked into the Bates County Jail in Butler and placed on

Obituary - Patricia Colleen Current

Patricia Colleen Current, 65, of St. Joseph, Missouri passed away in the early morning hours of Saturday, October 6, 2018 after a lengthy illness and recent hospitalization. She was born on November 3, 1952 to Robert Burl and Elizabeth Lorraine (Roberts) Current in Nevada, Missouri. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Nevada.

Pat grew up in Nevada, Missouri, graduated from Nevada High School, received a BS degree in Psychology from Southwest Missouri State University, and a MS in Psychology from Pittsburg State University. Pat worked at Nevada State Hospital and Raphael Center but most of her professional work was in private practice working with youth in St. Joseph, Missouri.

Pat enjoyed reading, needlepoint, and spending time with family. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Pat is survived by her sister, Madelyn (Current/Anderson) Seippel and husband, Jerry of Agency, MO; brothers, Jim Current and wife, Gail of Gower, MO; George Current and wife Carolyn of Springfield, MO; Bob Current of Holden Beach, NC; numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and many cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, October 12, 2018 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada. Interment will be in Newton Burial Park in Nevada at a later date. The family will receive friends from 7-9:00 p.m. Thursday, October 11, at Ferry Funeral Home.

Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Association in c/o Ferry Funeral Home.



Accident on AA Highway in rural Bates County

The Missouri State Highway Patrol in Bates County along with Adrian Fire Department and Bates County Sheriffs Deputies are on scene of a motor vehicle accident possibly involving a cow on AA Highway around 12 miles west of Adrian at this time.

Three people are said to be complaining of neck and back pain at this time and several emergency crews are on scene at this time. Please avoid this area as the road is blocked.

Obituary - Eugene Bob Friend

Eugene Bob Friend was born on November 15, 1937 in Stroud, Oklahoma and died on October 6, 2018 in Harrisonville, Missouri.

A Celebration of Life service will take place on October 14, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Dickey Funeral Home in Harrisonville, Missouri.

Bob was a United States Air Force veteran who was stationed in Casablanca. He worked as a locksmith in the Kansas City area for over 40 years.

He leaves his brother, Ben Friend and sister-in-law, Geneva, of Harrisonville; his four children: Calvin Friend of Warsaw, and Timothy Friend, Rilla Lorraine Rinaldi, and Russell Friend of Belton, Missouri; and his seven grandchildren, Alex, Emma, Jack, Samantha, Parker, Zowie, and Halla Grace.

Memorial contributions may be made to Paralyzed Veterans of America.



Obituary - Howard “Jack” Hayes

Howard “Jack” Hayes, 86, Nevada, MO passed away on Sunday, October 7, 2018.

Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, October 15, 2018 at LDS Church in Nevada. Interment will follow in Brooklyn Cemetery, La Cygne, KS. The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 p.m. on Sunday evening at the funeral home.

Ruth Maxine Kershner, age 98 of Butler, Missouri died Monday, October 8, 2018 at Bates County Memorial Hospital in Butler. She was born June 11, 1920 to Calvin Luther and Lena Marie Arnold March in Hoisington, Kansas.

Ruth is survived by her daughter, Peggy Adkins and husband Richard of Harrisonville, Missouri; five grandchildren, Kammy Salmon and husband Stephan, Grover Franklin Jackson, Tammy Lemon and husband Mark, Chad Michael Kershner and wife Brandi and Jennifer Lynn Taylor; and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Oran in 1957; one son, Gary Dean Kershner in 2010; one daughter, Betty Levon Taylor in 2012; two brothers, Buddy and William; and two sisters, Betty Jean March and Naomi Kershner.
