BREAKING: Bank robbery in Hume

The Bates County Sheriff's department, along with the Missouri Highway Patrol and federal investigators are currently at the Hume Bank following a robbery this morning.

The suspect is reported to be a white male wearing a black or blue jacket with blue jeans, direction of travel is unknown. If you see a subject matching this description please call 911 or the sheriffs department at 660-679-3232. Do not approach the subject.

No injuries are reported; more information will be posted as it becomes available.



Obituary - Irene A. Rodgers Watkins

Irene A. Rodgers Watkins, age 58, of Belton, Missouri passed away October 14, 2018 at Research Medical Center.

A Celebration of Life visitation will be held from 10 a.m.-12:00 p.m. Saturday, October 20, 2018 at Cullen Funeral Home, Raymore, MO.

Irene was born July 20, 1960 in Portland, Oregon, the daughter of Robert and Marjorie (Lazare) Fergelic.

Irene was blessed with three children, Elizabeth, Jessica and Joshua.

Irene was the owner and operator of Irene’s Cleaning Company for over 30 years. She was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #4492. Irene loved spending her spare time swimming and sitting by her pool. She also spent a lot of her time baking all kinds of things.

Irene was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Marjorie; and brother, Stephen Fergelic.

She is survived by her loving husband, Thomas A. Watkins; her three children, Elizabeth Rodgers James (Christopher), Jessica Johnson and Joshua Johnson; four grandchildren, Katelynn, Emma, Blake and Aubrey.

William E. Black, age 84, of Raymore, Missouri, passed away on October 17, 2018 at the Kansas City Hospice House in Kansas City, Missouri.

A Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Sunday October 21, 2018 with a Funeral Service at 12:00 p.m. at Cullen Funeral Home, 612 W. Foxwood Dr. Raymore, Missouri 64083. An Interment will be held at 1:15 p.m. at the Raymore Cemetery in Raymore, Missouri.

Obituary - Donald Lee Bigelow

Donald Lee Bigelow, 73, Sheldon, MO passed away on Wednesday, October 17, 2018 from an unexpected illness. Don was born May 28, 1945 in Fremont, OH to Earl Dale and Bertha Evelyn (Twiss) Bigelow. He married Roberta Ann (Banes) Conner on May 27, 1989 in Sheldon and she survives of the home.

Don lived in Fremont until he was eight years old and then moved with his family to California. In 1970, he came to Missouri where he lived in Lamar for a number of years later moving to Sheldon following his marriage to Roberta. Don owned Bigelow Electronics in Lamar for many years, worked at O’Sullivan Industries, and then retired from Pittsburg State University in 2006. He could fix almost anything. He was a member of the Sheldon United Methodist Church. He was also a current member of Lamar Masonic Lodge, and a past member of the Carthage Shriner Train Crew. Don enjoyed restoring old cars and traveling with his wife following his retirement. He loved all of his family. Don often talked about hayrides and wiener roasts with the grand kids. He was known for his infectious sense of humor and always had a joke ready to tell. Don prided himself in growing up with the Beach Boys in California.

In addition to his wife Roberta, he leaves behind his children, Doug (Cindy) Conner of Liberty, MO, Dustin (Lori) Conner of Bronaugh, MO, Rebecca (Chris) Jones of Lamar, MO, Christy (Keith) Love of Nevada, MO, Ginger (Nathan) Beerbower of Ft. Scott, KS, Angie (Dave) Blixt of Harrisonville, MO; cousin Lester “Bud” Bigelow; and he was a father figure to Chet Maynard of Lamar, MO; grandchildren, Cole and Blaine Conner, Samantha Farr, Robby Minor, Jordan Fasano, Hailey Bunton, Erica Whitesell, Courtney Conner, Alex Conner, Robbie McCartney, Jacob McCartney, Christopher Lear, Christian Jones, Cory Lear, Alissa Leverich, Dominque Leverich, Joshua Goodell, Gennifer McMurry, Brandon Beerbower, Brett Beerbower, and Conner Blixt,; 17 great-grandchildren, and two soon to be born; nieces, nephews, and close friends. He was preceded in death by one brother Richard Dale Bigelow; and one sister, Phyliss Jean Keinzle.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 20, 2018 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada with Pastor Wayne Coble officiating. Interment will follow in Sheldon Cemetery in Sheldon. The family will receive friends from 10-11:00 a.m. on Saturday prior to the service at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested in his memory to the Sheldon United Methodist Church in c/o Ferry Funeral Home.

Samantha E. Brown 27 of Warsaw was arrested yesterday on drug charges after a traffic stop for improper registration. Benton County Sheriff's Office K9 Billy was called into service where he alerted on the vehicle.

A search of the vehicle by deputies was conducted, resulting in the arrest. Brown is being held in lieu of a $5,000 cash or surety bond.

Clarice Arlene "Punkie" Robinson, age 91 of Butler, Missouri died Thursday, October 18, 2018 at Butler Center in Butler. She was born December 27, 1926 to Lester Lee and Bessie Domer Dodds in Rockville, Missouri.

Clarice is survived by a granddaughter, Calee McElwain and great-granddaughter, Marissa McElwain both of Butler, Missouri; daughter-in-law, Carla Bock and husband Don (daughters Stephanie Cameron and Madison Bock) of Butler, Missouri; two sisters-in-law, Wilma Dodds of Butler, Missouri and Dodie Dodds of Tulare, California; and nephews, nieces and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joe Richard "Poppie" Robinson; son, Steven Robinson; daughter, Jolene Lambert and husband Wendell; six brothers, J. L. Dodds, Jack Dodds, Eddie Dodds, Dick Dodds, Frank Dodds and infant Marion Dodds; and one sister, Betty Babb.
