Road Projects Approved by Missouri Highways & Transportation Commission at November Meeting


MoDOT, Southwest District – The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission, at its meeting on Friday, November 2 in Jefferson City, awarded projects to construction companies to make improvements to state highways and bridges during 2019, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.

Here are the details:
  • U.S. Route 54 & Business Loop 49 in Nevada: Resurfacing
    • Awarded to Emery Sapp & Sons Inc., of Springfield, for a low bid of $1.6 million
  • Business Loop 49 (Range Line Road) & Missouri Route 249 in Joplin: Resurfacing
    • Awarded to Blevins Asphalt Construction Co., of Mt. Vernon for low bid of $6.1 million
  • Greene County Routes F & Z in northwest Greene County: Resurfacing
    • Awarded to Blevins Asphalt Construction Co., of Mt. Vernon for low bid of $1.1 million
  • Polk County Route PP north of Bolivar: Pomme de Terre Bridge Rehabilitation
    • Awarded to Emery Sapp & Sons Inc., of Springfield for low bid of $1.4 million
  • Business Route 65 (South Street) in Ozark: Widening to five lanes between 6th Street and 19th Street
    • Awarded to Hartman and Company Inc., of Springfield for low bid of $4.8 million
  • Greene County Route YY (East Division Street) and Route 65 Outer Road (Eastgate Avenue) in the Springfield area: Resurfacing and adding shoulders
    • Awarded to Leo Journagan Construction Co. Inc., of Springfield for low bid of $1.2 million

Construction on the projects will start in 2019. More information on the projects will be announced prior to the projects’ start dates.



Jodi Jacks Love Fund now set up

With the help of Citizens Bank, the RHHS Class of 1999 has opened an account called the Jacks Love Fund to benefit the family of our dear classmate, Jodi Jacks. 

We would like to welcome our community to make a donation at any branch of Citizens Bank in or around the Rich Hill area.

Obituary - Maxine Elizabeth Weber

Maxine Elizabeth Weber, 95, Nevada, MO passed from this life on Friday, November 2, 2018 at Barone Alzheimer’s Care Center in Nevada. Maxine was born October 29, 1923 in Richards, MO to Leslie Leon and Berdella (Moberly) Davis. She married Curtis Lee Weber on December 21, 1941 in the home of Judge McCaffree in Nevada and he preceded her in death on June 13, 2018.

Maxine attended Nevada High School and following high school she worked for Boeing in Wichita, KS during WWII. After returning to Nevada she worked several years at Key Work Clothes, and later on the farm with Lee.

Survivors include one brother, Stephen Davis, Monett, MO; one niece, Carol Ramer, one nephew, David Ramer, and one great niece, Alicia Ramer, all of Boise, ID. In addition to her husband, Lee, she was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Lorraine Ramer, and three infant children.

Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, November 6, 2018 at Deerfield Cemetery in Deerfield, MO with Rev. Bill Smith officiating. Friends may call now and until the hour of service at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada.

Memorials are suggested to Deerfield Cemetery in c/o Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada.



Garden City teen seriously injured in ATV Accident

On 11/2/18 around 9:15pm the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Cass County along with Cass County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a report of a ATV rollover accident 3/10 of a mile south of 29805 E State Route T in rural Garden City.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2014 Polaris Razor ATV driven by 15 year old Adison L. Leimkuehler of Garden City, Missouri was traveling on private property when the ATV overturned partially ejecting the driver underneath the ATV.

Adison L. Leimkuehler sustained serious injuries in this accident and she was transported by Life Flight to Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri for treatment.

The ATV was secured and left at the scene of the accident.

Butler man injured in Henry County motorcycle wreck

On 11/2/18 around 4:20am the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Henry County responded to a motorcycle accident on Missouri 52 Highway just west of CR SW 951 in rural SW Henry County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2011 Kawasaki driven by 26 year old Dylan Decker of Butler, Missouri attempted to slow due to a animal in the roadway, the bike began to skid and ejected the driver before traveling into the ditch.

Mr. Decker sustained minor injuries in this accident and he was transported by Henry County EMS to Bates County Memorial Hospital in Butler, Missouri for treatment.

The bike was towed from the scene by Golden Valley Wrecker.

Obituary - Gregory Dean Heathman

Gregory Dean Heathman, 52, Nevada, MO, passed away on Thursday, November 1, 2018 at Medicalodges of Nevada. 

Greg was born November 17, 1965 in Nevada to Bert Allen and Ida Pauline (Hogan) Heathman.
