Hume Community News 11/13/18

The community of Hume wishes to extend their sympathy to the family of Steve Catron who passed away on October 8. Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with his family and friends.

The community of Hume also wishes to extend their sympathy to the family of Parker Nielson of Nevada who passed away unexpectedly on November 8 at his home in Nevada. Parker has been a fixture at the Hume Fair for many years bringing inflatables for the kids to enjoy and selling funnel cakes at the rodeo. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.
 

We wish Caryn Curtis a speedy recovery from heart surgery that she underwent on November 8, Continued prayers for healing.

Don’t forget the Veteran’s Day program on November 15 at the Hume School. All Veterans, retired and active on invited for lunch at 12:15 p.m. and there will be an assembly honoring the Veterans at 1:00 p.m. in the gym. Please join us honoring our Veterans and current military.

The Annual Red & White Hume High School Girls & Boys Basketball Scrimmage will be Friday, November 16. That evening the 2018/2019 Basketball Teams and Cheerleaders will be announced.

ON Saturday November 17th the 1st Annual Hume Alumni Basketball game & Chili Supper will be held. The freewill donation Chili Supper will start at 5:30 p.m. At 6:30 p.m. the Women’s alumni Game will get underway. The Men’s game will get underway following the Women’s game. There will be a $15.00 entry fee for each player and they will shoot for teams. All alumni interested in playing contact Holly Rushing at 660-224-6818.

Hume United Methodist Church News: There will be no Kid’s Klub on Wednesday November 21 due to Thanksgiving week. Kid’s Klub will resume on Wednesday, November 28.

There will be a Bean & Soup fundraiser on Sunday, December 2, 2018 at the Church Basement. Serving will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. This is a fundraiser for Kid’s Klub that is held each week at the church. Everyone is invited to enjoy in the fun and fellowship.

Two injured in Barton County Crash

On 11/12/18 the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Barton County responded to a one vehicle accident on US 160 just west of Lamar, Missouri

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe driven by 31 year old Kimberly M. Johnson of Liberal, Missouri skidded off the snow covered roadway and struck a ditch.

Kimberly M. Johnson along with a passenger in her vehicle 40 year old Jennifer A. Stark of Sheldon, Missouri both were injured in this accident and both were transported to Cox Barton County Hospital in Lamar for treatment.

The vehicle received extensive damages in this accident and it was towed from the scene by Abernathy Towing of Lamar.

Obituary - Mable Irene Flewelling

Mable Irene Flewelling, 97, Nevada, MO passed away on Saturday, November 10, 2018 at Moore-Few Care center in Nevada. Mable was born November 7, 1921 to Charles and Melissa (Thompson) Sallee. She married George E. Flewelling in 1947 and he preceded her in death in 1969.

Mable was born and raised in Vernon County. She worked for Scotts and TG & Y Stores in Nevada and for a time in Parsons, KS for 32 years. Mable also did alterations, hand sewing, and crocheting out of her home for nearly 30 years which she continued up to age 93. Mable was also caretaker for her sister in her own home for over ten years. She was a member of Community Christian Church and a past member of the Rebecca Lodge.

Survivors include three nieces, Carol Reedy of Winnamack, IN, Mary Jones Richards, MO, Dorothy Manes, Clinton, MO; numerous great nieces and nephews, including Larry Hillier, Kansas City, MO. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Mildred Bobbett, and Helen Fern Hobbs; and one niece, Helen Hillier.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada with Mark Mitchell officiating. Friends may call now and until the hour of service. Interment will follow in Newton Burial Park in Nevada.

Memorials are suggested to Vernon County Cancer Relief or Community Christian Church in c/o Ferry Funeral Home.


Update: Archie man killed in accident near Harrisonville

On 11/12/18 around 10:00am the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Cass County along with Cass County Sheriff's Office responded to a two vehicle accident in the northbound lanes of I-49 at mile marker 160.2 near the Harrisonville/291 Exit.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2006 Mercury driven by 77 year old James A. Copeland of Archie, Missouri slid off the roadway and struck a guardrail before returning to the road and striking a 2018 Freightliner driven by 48 year old James A.Walbert of Gulfport, Mississippi.

James A Copeland was pronounced dead at 10:48am at Cass Regional Medical Center.

A passenger in James A. Copeland's vehicle 77 year old Georgia M. Copeland of Archie, Missouri sustained minor injuries in this accident and she was transported by ambulance to Cass Regional Medical Center for treatment.

Both vehicles were totaled and towed from the scene by Miller's Tow and J's Southland Tow.

Windsor woman killed in Henry County Fatality Crash

On 11/12/18 around 8:25am the Missouri State Highway Patrol along with Henry County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a two vehicle accident on Missouri 52 Highway and CR NE 251 in rural Henry County Missouri.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2012 Toyota driven by 31 year old Maria E. Gudino-Ramirez of Clinton, Missouri lost control of her vehicle on ice covered roadway and crossed the center line of the roadway and struck the 2015 Toyota driven by 62 year old Kathleen J. Miller of Windsor, Missouri nearly head on.

Kathleen J. Miller was pronounced dead at Golden Valley Memorial Hospital in Clinton, Missouri at 10:03am.

Maria E. Gudino-Ramirez along with a passenger in her vehicle 5 year old Johnathan A. Mendoza-Ramirez of Clinton, Missouri both sustained serious injures in this accident and both were transported by ambulance to Golden Valley Memorial Hospital in Clinton, Missouri for treatment.

Both vehicles were totaled and towed from the scene by Golden Valley Wrecker Service and Coal Tire.

Updated Obituary - Betty Ann Barnes

Betty Ann Barnes, 79, of Harrisonville MO went to be with the Lord on November 9, 2018 at Carnegie Village Rehabilitation Center.

Betty was born January 6, 1939, in Jefferson City MO to Walter and Edith Horak. She was the oldest of 3 siblings. She met and married Jack Barnes and raised a family of 3 children.

Betty leaves behind her 3 children: Bruce (Debbie) Barnes; their 3 children: JoBeth, Brady and Brett and 3 Step- children: Mary, Kimmy and Kristen; Jeffrey (Annette) Barnes; their 2 children: Kholby and Madison; Lisa (Scott) Gilbert; their 2 children: Stephanie and Seth. She was also blessed with 8 great-grandchildren and 10 step great-grandchildren.

She also leaves behind her 2 sisters Delores Fischer and her 4 children; Judy (Walt) Schaefer and her 2 children.

Funeral services will be 1:00 pm, Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at the Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Missouri with cremation to follow the service.

Family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at the funeral home.

Family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the Carnegie Village Rehab and Health Care Center.
