Nevada teen injured in Vernon County rollover accident

On 11/18/18 around 1:30pm the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Vernon County responded to a one vehicle rollover accident on Route BB around 3 miles south of Nevada.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2007 Nissan Xterra driven by 17 year old Hannah G. Harney of Nevada, Missouri attempted to avoid a vehicle that was in her lane, traveled off the right side of the roadway and overturned.

Hannah G. Harney sustained moderate injuries in this accident and she was transported by ambulance to Nevada Regional Medical Center for treatment.

Obituary - Elmer John Taute

Elmer John Taute, 88 of Butler, Missouri passed away Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at his home surrounded by family. Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm Monday, November 19, 2018 at Mullinax Funeral Home, Butler (660-679-0009). There will be no visitation. 

Memorial contributions are suggested to Bates County Toys for Tykes or Serenity Hospice. Messages of condolence may be left for the family at www.mullinaxfuneralhome.com.

Elmer John “EJ” Taute was born on July 18, 1930 in Amoret, Missouri the son of Rudolph Taute and Bessie (Braden) Taute. He graduated from Amoret High School . After high school he spent 4 years in the Air Force stationed in Japan during the Korean War. He returned home and started farming again. He married Wanda Houston and they celebrated 63 years together on November 5. They have 2 children, Pam and John Curtis. John worked for several years as a trim carpenter in Kansas City and then would come home and farm at night and on the weekends. In the late 60’s the family moved to Butler and John started his own building business. Through the years he built several homes and businesses around Butler. He later started building Shoney’s and Captain D’s restaurants around Missouri and Kansas. After he retired they joined the Moshowme camping club. They were members for over 20 years. With this group they traveled to many different places. They wintered in Texas and Arizona with friends from the club as well as monthly campouts throughout the year. He was also a long time member of the Coffee Club that meets at the Bear Stop each morning. What John will be remembered for is his love of family and friends. He was never happier than when he was spending time with them. That is what he valued most.

He was preceded in death by his parents Rudolph and Bessie Taute; brother in laws Arthur Lee Jones, Jesse Thompson, Arvin Webb and Harold Sliffe; sister in laws Florence Webb and Freda Morgan; nephews Mike Jones, Duane Webb and Danny Thompson.

Survivors include his wife Wanda, son John Taute of Butler; daughter and son in law Pam and Dan Sbisa of Blue Springs; grandchildren Thomas Sbisa of Lee’s Summit, Rachel and Brenton Caruthers of Kansas City; sister Fern Sliffe of Butler; brother and sister in law Verle and Grace Taute of Amoret; sister in law/brother in law Susie and Vernon Gore of Mountain View, sister in law Dora Thompson of Springfield, brother in law Harold Morgan of Butler and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank all the family and friends that have supported us through visits and calls throughout the past weeks. We also want to thank Serenity Hospice for their compassion and help. No words can express how much we appreciate each of you.

Homicide Person of Interest

Detectives with the Independence, Missouri Police Department are attempting to locate the following person of interest regarding a homicide investigation that occurred in the 3800 Block of S. Sterling Ave earlier this morning.

Michael T. Dumas, a 27 year old Black Male, 6ft 175lbs, with black hair and brown eyes. His last last know address is out of Pleasant Hill, MO. He should be considered Armed and Dangerous.
