Update: Charges against driver who rammed deputies car in Cass County

UPDATE:Charges Against Pursuit Suspect

This afternoon Cass County Prosecutor's charged Travis R. Ebeck Jr., 20, Pleasant Hill Missouri with 6 criminal counts related to a burglary and pursuit by Cass County Deputies this morning.

A warrant issued list the following charges against Travis Ebeck Jr:

Count 1 Burglary 2nd Degree, D Felony
Count 2 Stealing - $750 or More, E Felony
Count 3 Resisting Arrest by Fleeing Creating A Substantial Risk of Serious Injury/Death, E Felony
Count 4 Property Damage 1st Degree, E Felony
Count 5 Assault 4th Degree - Special Victim, A Misdemeanor
Count 6 Tampering with a Motor Vehicle, D Felony

Bond was set at $1500.00 Cash Only. Ebeck is currently in the custody of the Cass County Sheriff's Office.


Obituary - Elton E. Fletcher

Elton E. Fletcher, age 96, Pleasanton, Kansas passed away on Friday, November 30, 2018 at the Galena Nursing Center. He was born in Mound City, Kansas on August 2, 1922 the son of Ernest and Blanche Cvarfordt Fletcher. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II. 

He worked as a steel fabricator for Greham Steel. He was a Baptist by faith. He was a faithful attendee at all Pleasanton Blue Jay Activities. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Calvin, an infant daughter, a brother, Calvin, and a sister Shirley Main. Elton is survived by four sons, Dale Fletcher and Cindy, Wayne Fletcher and Shanna, Bob Fletcher, and Rick Fletcher; two daughters; Phyllis Staton and Mike, and Doris Rupert and Larry; thirteen grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren. 

Funeral service will be 10:30 am Saturday, December 8, 2018 at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, Pleasanton Chapel. Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9:30 until service time. The family suggests contributions to Care to Share. Online condolences can be left at www.schneiderfunerals.com. Pursuit Suspect Rams Deputy Patrol Car in Cass County

Cass Co – Around 7:00 am Sunday morning Cass County Deputies responded to the area of E. 203rd St and S. Pryor Rd after receiving a report that a truck, trailer, and ATV had been stolen from a residence. 

The victim followed the suspect until deputies arrived in the area and attempted to stop driver. 

The suspect fled from deputies and refused to stop. During the pursuit the trailer detached from the truck and the suspect continued driving.

Deputies attempted to deploy a tire deflation device in the area of E. 235th and S. Shaffer Rd north of Harrisonville. As the vehicle approached the deputies at the intersection the suspect drove off the roadway towards two deputies ramming their patrol vehicle. One deputy fired a shot at the suspect, striking the vehicle. The suspect stopped and yielded to the pursuing deputies and was taken into custody. The suspect was not struck.

The deputies and suspect were evaluated at the scene by EMS and released with no injuries. The incident is still under investigation.



Obituary - James C. Harrald

James C. Harrald, 53, of Pleasant Hill, departed this life, Friday, November 30, 2018, at his home.

Funeral services are pending under the care of Stanley-Dickey Funeral Home, Pleasant Hill, Missouri.

Sunday....Damp, Chilly and snow for some


Good Morning! Snow has been occurring off and on across northwestern Missouri and far northeastern Kansas overnight and this morning. 

Drizzle and light rain has been steadily occurring everywhere else... but you only read the word "snow" in that first part and tuned out after that. 

So nothing I write here really matters. It's okay, we understand, I mean, we're disappointed, but we understand. Have a great Sunday!


Obituary - Sinda Simms

Sinda Simms, 63 of Olathe, Kansas died Wednesday, November 28, 2018 at her home in Olathe, Kansas. Memorial services will be

1:30 pm Thursday December 6th at the Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel in Butler. There is no visitation. Online condolences may be sent to www.schowengerdtchapel.com.

Sinda Simms was born May 10, 1955 the daughter of Berdie Louise (Lee) Hardiman and Andrew G. Potts.

Sinda is survived by son Darwin G. Potts and daughter Bobbi Potts. seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Also her siblings Alonzo Potts Sr, Rodney Potts, Debra Potts, Ement Potts, Jeffrey Potts and Pamela Robinson.

Sinda graduated from Butler High School and had worked for Medicalodge in Butler. She was a licensed cosmetologist and moved to Olahe, Kansas in 2006. Sinda was married to Bobby Simms who preceded her in death February 7, 2015. She worked as a manager of HyVee convenience store. 

She was a fan of two-sepping and enjoyed card games and billiards. Sinda loved spending time with her family and friends and throwing parties. She would never pass up a chance to go to the casino and was as avid Chiefs fan.
