Obituary - Randall Scott "Randy" Banta

Randall Scott "Randy" Banta, age 55, of Pleasanton, Kansas passed away at his home on Tuesday, December 4, 2018. He was born at Joplin, Missouri on April 13, 1963 the son of Kenneth and Marietta Medley Banta. He worked as a sales manager for Croft Trailer Supply. He married Stacy Payne on April 10, 1992. 

Together, they bred and showed English Bulldogs for over twenty years, raising several AKC Champions. Banta Bulldogs, is a member of the Bull Dog Club of America and also in the Bulldog Hall of Fame. 

Randy was a member of the Pleasanton First Baptist Church, Pleasanton Volunteer Fire Department, and served on the Pleasanton City Council. 

He was preceded in death by his mother, Marietta, and a stepson, Brandon Stevens. Randy is survived by his wife, Stacy, two daughters; Maranda Miner and Derek, and Jennifer Banta, a stepson Jeff Stevens and Cristina, a stepdaughter, Erica Stevens; two brothers; Gary Banta and Tammy and Russ Banta and Shannon; and eight grandchildren: Ryan, Sebastian, Payton, Justin, Parker, Nathaniel, Marshall and Jakob.

Funeral service will be 2 pm Friday, December 7, 2018 at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, Pleasanton Chapel. Burial in the Pleasanton Cemetery. 

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 pm Thursday, December 6, 2018 at the Chapel. Contributions are suggested to the Colorectal Cancer Association c/o Schneider Funeral Home, P.O. Box 525, Pleasanton, KS 66075. Online condolences can be left at www.schneiderfunerals.com.


Recovered Property from the Cass County Sheriff's Office

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office has recovered several stolen items including a set of golf clubs, a set of professional drywall tools, and two leaf blowers.

Police Chase with semi truck in Barton County

On December 5th 2018 at around 8:43 a.m. the Barton County Sheriff's Office was advised by the Missouri State Highway Patrol that a trooper was trying to conduct a traffic stop on a semi truck that was traveling Southbound on I-49 Highway in Vernon County. 

The Missouri State Highway Patrol advised that the semi was failing to stop for the trooper and the trooper was pursuing the semi. The pursuit traveled several miles in Barton County on I-49 Highway. 

The pursuit eventually stopped at approximately the 72 mile marker after spikes was used. One subject was taken into custody by the Missouri State Highway Patrol Troopers. 

The investigation in the case is being conducted by the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Watch out for slick roads this morning. Starting to get a little light precipitation across eastern KS and western MO. What light rain there is will kick over to snow as temperatures fall today. Snow to move east by the afternoon.






Stolen Vehicle in Adrian

On December 2, 2018 a Deputy took a report of a vehicle that had been stolen on County Road 15004 in Adrian, MO. The victim stated that when he woke up that morning he stated he noticed his pick-up was missing from the driveway. He had last driven it the night before. 

The pick-up is a 2000 Chevy Silverado that is white in color. It has an extended cab and is 4 wheel drive. The license plate number is 5RB428.

The Deputy took pictures of the scene and located a plastic cup that was taken into evidence. The victim stated that the cup did not belong to anyone at the residence. The cup will be sent to the crime lab for DNA testing.
