Florida man arrested in Bates County

On 12/10/18 around 7:48pm the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Bates County arrested 32 year old Samuel E. Miller of Melbourne, Florida.

Mr. Miller was arrested for 1.) Driving While Intoxicated.

He was booked into the Bates County Jail and placed on a 12 hour detox hold.

Please help us find him. He got lost east of Adrian, Mo. South of 18 highway and north of state highway D. I can’t tell you how much it would mean to have him back. He was family and had been for 3 years. Please, if you see any sign of him let me know!

Description: Incredibly fluffy brown and black tabby. He also has a big, fluffy tail. He weighs 17 lbs and is very shy. He has all black pads on his feet and his lips are all black, too.

Hume Community News 12/11/18

The After-prom did a great job on sponsoring the 1st Annual Mistletoe Market held on Sunday, December 9. 

Several vendors were set up in the gym. Several enjoyed the delicious soup and chili in the mult-purpose room. This is a wonderful new tradition that was started this year and goes for a great cause. Looking forward to next year!
Santa Claus will be making a stop in Hume on Saturday, December 15 at the Hume Legion Hall from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Stop in and see Santa and enjoy some scrumptious goodies with Santa and tell him your wishes.
Dixie Haler, Bart and Lynn McClaughry and Abigail Metcalf attended the Marshall Family reunion in Rich Hill on Sunday, December 9. All of Dixie’s siblings were able to attend the reunion.

The Annual Christmas Party at Sister’s and Friends CafĂ© was well attended on Monday evening. Lots of delicious food and fellowship were enjoyed.

Hume United Methodist Church News: The Annual Christmas Program will be held Sunday, December 16 at 7:00 p.m. On Wednesday, December 19 will be the last Kid’s Klub meeting until after School takes up after Christmas break.

Iowa woman arrested in Bates County

On 12/10/18 around 4:00pm the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Bates County arrested 35 year old Brandee D. Huston of Dubuque, Iowa.

She was arrested for 1.) Felony Possession of a Controlled Substance 2.) Possession of Marijuana 3.) Possession of drug paraphernalia 4.)Speeding.

Brandee D. Huston was booked into the Bates County Jail in Butler and later released.

Obituary - Ralph Leonard "Butch" Wright

Ralph Leonard “Butch” Wright was born June 4, 1938 in Yakima, Washington and departed this life on December 7, 2018 at St. Luke’s East Hospital in Lee’s Summit, Missouri, surrounded by the love of his family, at the age of 80 years, 6 months and 3 days.

He was the son of Herbert Wright and Mildred (Prewitt) Wright.

The Wright family moved to Pleasant Hill, Missouri when Butch was 14 years old. He was a 1956 graduate of Pleasant Hill High School and senior class president.

After graduation, Butch worked for Bendix Corporation. While working at Bendix, Butch joined the National Guard, and in 1958 he was called to active duty and served one year. At the completion of his active duty, he continued with the National Guard in Raytown, Missouri until he was called to active duty for the second time. After that active duty tour he was stationed at the Nike Base near Pleasant Hill, then he was sent to the 1139th MP CO in Harrisonville, Missouri. Butch ‘s unit was called up again in 1990 in support of Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm. Butch retired from the National guard with 36 years of service.

On August 22, 1965, Butch was united in marriage with Mary Eleaine Hoen and they made their home in Pleasant Hill, Missouri until 1989 when they moved to their farm in Adrian, Missouri.

Butch was preceded in death by his wife, Mary E. (Hoen) Wright on April 20, 2016; his parents, Herbert Wright and Mildred (Prewitt) Wright; five brothers, Jerry Wright, Dale Wright, Lloyd Wright, Robert Wright and Michael Wright; two sisters, Jean Green and Hazel Quinn, and one grandson, Corey Gibbons.

He is survived by two daughters, Mellissa (Wright) Gibbons and husband Ron of Pleasant Hill, Missouri, and Rhonda (Wright) Walley and husband Jay of Adrian, Missouri; three sisters, Barbara Clawson and husband Bill of Pleasant Hill, Missouri, Mary Samantha Johnson of Banning, California, and Judy Todd and husband Mike of Harrisonville, Missouri; three grandchildren, Trever Wilson of Pleasant Hill, Missouri, Conrad and Anna Walley both of Adrian, Missouri; two step-grandchildren, Crystal Hunter and Kyle Gibbons both of Pleasant Hill, Missouri; numerous great grandchildren, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral Services for Ralph Leonard “Butch” Wright will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, December 14, 2018 at the Wallace Funeral Home in Pleasant Hill, with Rev. David Owsley officiating. Casket Bearers will be Conrad Walley, Trever Wilson, Jay Walley, Ron Gibbons, Mike Todd and Jerry Land. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery with Full Military Honors provided by the United States Army and V.F.W. Post #3118 Honor Guard of Pleasant Hill, Missouri. 

The family of Ralph Leonard “Butch” Wright will receive friends from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. Thursday, December 13, 2018 at the funeral home. The family suggests contributions to Alzheimer’s Association and may be left at the funeral home.



Accident in Barton County

The Barton County Sheriff's Office at 4:37pm received a 911 call of a car accident at the intersection of 43 Highway and 160 Highway just outside of Liberal Missouri. 

Emergency responders from the Barton County Ambulance and the Liberal Fire Department are at the scene of the accident right now. The accident is being investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol. 

At this time traffic is being stopped from going West on 160 from that intersection. One subject was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for medical treatment. 

We're asking all those traveling on 160 and 43 highway to drive with caution in the area of the accident.

Obituary - Kenneth Marten

Kenneth Marten, 71 of Montrose, Missouri passed away Thursday, December 6, 2018 at Medicalodge in Butler, Missouri. Cremation with no public services at this time. Messages of condolence may be left for the family at www.mullinaxfuneralhome.com

Kenneth Donald Marten was born January 4, 1947 near Garden City, Missouri to Melvin and Clarabelle Hartsell Marten.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers Beryl and Jonathan Marten. He is survived by his sister, Marjorie Hatch and husband Thomas, nieces Lisa Carl and Kelly Carl (Bobby Coke), great-nephew Joseph Coke, great-niece Alexa Belle Coke, cousins Dean and Delores Harris, and by many extended family members and friends.
