A brush with fame...

Allison Nieder, formerly of Amsterdam, was shopping at Walmart in Rogers, AR recently when she had the honor of meeting country music legend Martina McBride.

Nieder enjoyed a short conversation with McBride and stated the artist was quite "down to earth". 

McBride was on hand to sign copies of her new cookbook.

Obituary - Clara L. Hoke

Clara Lucille Hoke, 92, Harrisonville, Missouri departed this life on Tuesday, December 18, 2018 at her home.

She is survived by a son, Jim Hoke, Harrisonivlle, Missouri; a daughter, Sherry Neale and husband Richard, Kansas City, Missouri; 10 grandchildren; 4 brothers, Don Rogers, Russell Penniston, George "Sonny" Penniston and Lloyd Penniston all of Independence, Missouri; other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, December 21, 2018 at the Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Missouri with burial in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m., Thursday, December 20, 2018 at the funeral home.

Family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the Harrisonville Animal Shelter.

Obituary - Beulah Leola (Oyler) Keith

Beulah Leola Keith, 84, Nevada, MO went to be with the Lord on Monday, December 17, 2018 following a lengthy illness. She was surrounded by her loved ones. Beulah was born December 1, 1934 in El Dorado Springs, MO to William Kenneth and Elsie Mae (Scammehorn) Oyler. 

She was united in marriage to Forrest Eugene Keith on December 3, 1954 and he preceded her in death after 14 years of marriage on December 20, 1968.

From the age of 16, Beulah worked in various factories including the Shoe Factory, El Dorado Springs, Nelly Don, Nevada, HD Lee and Co, Kansas City, and Key Work Clothes in Nevada from 1966 until her retirement in 2000.

Beulah was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her love for children playing and laughing was her sunshine.

She is survived by one daughter, Carol Earll and her husband Mitchell, Nevada; one grandson, Matthew Earll, Nevada; two granddaughters, Krista Chrisenberry and her husband Marty, Nevada, Monica Earll, Nevada; two great-grandchildren, Lexi Chrisenberry, and Brady Bybee, both of Nevada; numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband Forrest she was preceded in death by, her parents; ten sisters, Alene Murphy, Mildred Light, Cora Blakely, infant sister, Leila Oyler, Jennie Reid, Mary Oyler-Bruce, Belle McMasters, Cathlene Oyler, Fern Holder, and June Fields; three brothers, Bob Oyler, Clifford Oyler, and an infant brother, Albert.

A private graveside committal service will be held at a later date. Friends may call at Ferry Funeral Home.

Memorials are suggested in her memory to Virgil City Cemetery in c/o Ferry Funeral Home.


Obituary - Barbara Ann Hamilton

Barbara Ann Hamilton, 63, Nevada, MO passed away on Monday, December 17, 2018 at Freeman West in Joplin following a lengthy illness. Barbara was born May 11, 1955 in Sheldon, MO to Homer Leroy and Francis Marie (Lynn) Bogart. She married Rolla Hamilton on August 26, 1993 in Lamar, MO and he preceded her in death on October 12, 2005.

Barbara grew up in the Sheldon area and attended Sheldon schools. She was a homemaker and mother. After her children were grown she and Rolla owned and operated Grandma and PaPa’s Diner in Nevada for 12 years. Barbara enjoyed being with family, her grandchildren, fishing and camping.

Survivors include two daughters, Amanda Johnson and her fiancé Jared Sloniker, Nevada, Ashley Hamilton, Nevada; one step-son, John Hamilton and his wife Robbin, Nevada; six grandchildren, Tiffany Newman, Samantha Dale, Charlene Williams, Wyatt Hamilton, Jessica LeAn, Kenneth Johnson; five great-grandchildren; brother, Gary Bogart and his wife Janice, Amarillo, TX. In addition to her husband Rolla she was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Bobby Hagerman, and an infant sister.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 22, 2018 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada with Robert Wood officiating. Interment will follow in Marvin Chapel Cemetery. Friends may call now and until the hour of service at the funeral home.

Obituary - Barney Scott


Funeral services for Barney Scott will be 11 a.m. Saturday, December 22, 2018 at Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel (660-679-6555) in Butler, Missouri.  Visitation will be prior to services from 10-11 a.m. at Schowengerdt Chapel.

Barney Ellsworth Scott, age 97 of Drexel, Missouri died Monday, December 17, 2018 at his home.  He was born February 19, 1921 to Mert Lee and Minnie Tyler Scott.
Barney, one of six children, grew up in Miller County where he attended school.  On August 19, 1944 he was united in marriage to Harriett “Hattie” Ingram, and this marriage lasted 74 years. To this union two sons were born.  Barney served his country during World War II in the United States Army.  In his early years, Barney worked as a taxi driver in the Kansas City area.  He then moved to the Rich Hill area where he worked at a hatchery and farmed and raised cattle.  Barney later moved to Main City where he owned and operated a dairy farm. In 1964 Barney and Hattie bought the Gambles Store in Drexel.  Some of their happiest days were spent working in the store serving the community. Barney & Hattie retired from the business in 1985.
Barney was ornery, kind, and caring, and always wore his emotions on his sleeve.  He enjoyed rabbit hunting, gardening, visiting with family and friends, and raising beagle dogs.  He truly enjoyed the many fishing trips he took with his buddies to Colorado.
Barney is survived by his wife, Harriett Scott of Drexel, Missouri; two sons, Russell Scott and James “Jim” Scott and wife Trish; two grandchildren, Brent Scott and wife Kari, and Rebekah Scott; and one great-grandson, Drew Scott.  He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Meurice, Harold and Herb Scott; two sisters, Irene Morris and infant sister Mildred Pearl Scott; and a grandson, Trent Scott.

Updated Obituary - Lorrie Beth Gillespie

Lorrie Beth Dillingham-Gillespie, age 38, died Saturday, December 15, 2018 at her home. She was born on August 12, 1980 at Kansas City, Missouri the daughter of Wayne Jr. "Tex" and Lola Schreckhise Ritter. She worked as a CNA in the home health industry. 

She was known as "Nana" to her nieces, nephews and extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents. Lorrie is survived by her husband Ell Gillespie, and three sisters: April Ritter, Anjanet Hays, and Mindy Wisdom.
