From the Barton County Sheriff's Office

The Barton County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call of a car accident 7 miles west of I-49 on 160 Highway. Emergency responders are at the scene of the accident right now. 

The accident is being investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol. At this time we are holding up traffic to get the vehicles moved safely. 

We do not have information on injuries. We're asking all those traveling on 160 hwy in the area of the accident to drive with caution. Please drive slowly and carefully.


Obituary - Finley “Neill” McNeill Preston, Jr.

Finley “Neill” McNeill Preston, Jr., 68, Harrisonville, MO, died Friday, February 1, 2019 at Crown Care Center in Harrisonville. 

Visitation will be held from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Monday, February 4, 2019 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville with graveside services at 11:00 a.m. at Sharon Cemetery in Drexel, MO.

Funeral services for Dorothy Black of Sweet Springs, Missouri will be 11 a.m. Monday, February 4, 2019 at the Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel (660-679-6555) in Butler, Missouri with Brother Alan Black officiating. 

Visitation prior to services 10 - 11 a.m. at the Schowengerdt Chapel. Burial in Oak Hill Cemetery, Butler. Contributions to I-70 Medical Center Auxiliary or Sweet Springs Villa.

Dorothy Pauline Black, age 97 of Sweet Springs, Missouri formerly of Ballard, Missouri died Thursday, January 31, 2019 at I-70 Medical Center in Sweet Springs. She was born November 30, 1921 to Paul Lewis and Lola Graham Andrews Radford in Ballard, Missouri.

Dorothy is survived by a daughter, Diane Steinkuhler and husband Chuck of Sweet Springs, Missouri; a sister-in-law, Etha Pearl Black Pieratt of Butler, Missouri; two grandchildren, Troy D. Steinkuhler and wife Stacey and Clay H. Steinkuhler; three great-grandchildren, Cooper, Karsyn and Taylor; and several nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George Kenneth Black Jr; and a sister, Elinor Russell.

Juvenile arrested after making threats in the Belton School District

In reference to the threats made against the Belton Middle School on January 31st 2019, the Belton Police have taken a juvenile into custody for making the threats against the school. The investigation has revealed there was no credibility to the threat. 

The juvenile has been transferred to the custody of the Cass County Juvenile Office. Any further inquiries should be referred to that office.


Shooting Investigation in Henry County

On Tuesday, January 29, 2019 the Henry County Sheriff’s Office was contacted by the Clinton Police Department regarding a shooting that occurred near the city limits of Clinton. 

Cpl. Richardson obtained what information the Clinton Officer had and began to further investigate the matter.

According to the Sheriff’s Office report, several shots were fired from a moving vehicle at another moving vehicle near the intersection of Hwy 52 and Vansant Road. The victims in the case were able to identify the shooter and the driver of the other vehicle.

Arrested and later charged by Prosecuting Attorney Richard Shields was Tylor Turner, age 22 of Clinton. Turner is charged with assault 1st degree, armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon. Turner was taken into custody at his residence, 614 East Ohio. The second suspect, Bryan Sharp ran from the residence and was not apprehended.

Turner’s bond has been set at $25,000.00 and he remains in custody at the Henry County Detention Center. The Sheriff’s Office is actively seeking the whereabouts of Bryan Sharp, age 20, of Clinton for questioning in this investigation. 

Mr. Sharp also has active warrants for his arrest for Probation Violation, Receiving Stolen Property and Possession of a Controlled Substance as well as a Clinton Municipal warrant for Driving While Suspended.

Nevada man seriously injured in Vernon County Crash

On 1/31/19 around 1:05pm the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Vernon County responded to a one vehicle rollover accident on Route F around 3 miles west of Moundville.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2000 Ford F-250 driven by 43 year old Nancy L. Widener of Deerfield, Missouri went off the right side of the roadway, overturned and struck a fence before coming to rest on its top.

A passenger in the vehicle 22 year old Colby L. Charles of Nevada, Missouri sustained serious injuries in this accident and he was transported air ambulance to Mercy Hospital in Joplin, Missouri for treatment.

The vehicle was totaled and towed from the scene of the accident by TCB Tow of Nevada, Missouri.
