Obituary - Leonard William Grant

Leonard William Grant, 59, Nevada, MO passed away on Sunday, February 3, 2019 at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin, MO. Leonard was born August 12, 1959 in Norfolk, VA to Albert Rufus and Delores Laverne (Hostic) Grant. He married Helen Lorraine Smith on June 13, 1981 and she preceded him in death on January 14, 2017.

Leonard attended Nevada High School and graduated with the Class of 1978. He worked at Guthrie Motors in Nevada for a number of years before going to work at Tim’s Muffler where he later became owner and operator of the business. Leonard enjoyed fishing, collecting cars, taking his car to car shows with his son Levi, and racing at Nevada Speedway for many years.

Leonard is survived by one son, Levi Grant of the home; one sister, Jackie Anders and her husband Tim of Nevada; and two nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 p.m. on Monday evening, February 11, 2019 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada.


Warsaw Police seeking public assistance



Do you recognize the woman in this image? She was driving the tan GMC also pictured. A young lady patronizing our local Wal-Mart left her wallet in the ladies room and the woman pictured here walked into the restroom moments later and the wallet vanished. As far as we can tell she was the only person to enter the bathroom during the time that the wallet was unaccounted for. 

"Finders Keepers" doesn't work when things like State ID and Debit/Credit cards are in play.

Obituary - James R. "Jim" Brown

James R. "Jim" Brown, 57, of Kansas City, Missouri passed away unexpectedly Saturday, February 2, 2019 at the Truman Medical Center in Kansas City.

Among surviving are his parents, Robert "Bob" and Beverly Brown, Clinton, MO.

Arrangements are pending under the direction of the Bradley & Hadley Funeral Home, Clinton.


Obituary - Darrel D. Cowan

Darrel D. Cowan, age 78, of Raymore, Missouri, passed away on Saturday, February 2, 2019 surrounded by his loving family.

A Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, February 8, 2019 at the South Haven Baptist Church 16800 Bel-Ray Blvd., Belton, Missouri 64012. A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 9, 2019 at South Haven Baptist Church with Interment to follow immediately at Belton Cemetery, Belton, Missouri.

Darrel is survived by his beloved wife, Alma; sister Margie Miller; and several nieces and nephews and their families.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Flossie Cowan; and brother Donald Cowan.

Darrel was born at home in rural Henry County on March 7, 1940. He worked on his parents’ dairy farm and helped at their general store. He attended Piper and White Oak One Room Schools and was a member of White Oak Methodist Church. Darrel joined the Army National Guard in March of 1957 and served five years, receiving an Honorable Discharge. He graduated from Clinton High School in 1958. On March 10, 1962 he married Alma Ruth Gaug at the Belton Methodist Church. Together they lived in Belton for 50 years before moving to Raymore in 2013.

In 1960 Darrel worked for Wear Electric and Solo Cup. In 1965 he joined IBEW L.U. 124, ultimately retiring due to health issues in 2000. Darrel joined the Belton Lions Club in 1976 where he was an active member for 36 years. In 1984 he was appointed to the Belton Board of Adjustments and served for 28 years. In 1986 Darrel was appointed Alderman for Ward 4 and held that office for 15 years serving as pro tem to three different mayors. In 1986 Darrel and Alma Joined the South Haven Baptist Church where they still are active members.

Darrel put his heart into whatever he was doing, receiving many awards from the Lions Club in Belton. After retirement he enjoyed the Union Retirees Club. Together, Darrel and Alma took a lot of road trips and many trips to Branson in later years.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to South Haven Baptist Church as addressed above or your favorite food pantry.

The family is grateful to K.C. Hospice and the entire staff at Foxwood Springs.



Two arrested in Lamar

On Saturday, February 2, 2019, at about 9:54 p.m., officers with the Lamar Police Department responded to the O'Sullivan building at 1900 Gulf in reference to an alarm activation. As two of the officers entered the building in an area where the alarms had been activated, they could hear people walking on the roof of the building. 

A third officer responded to the area. At one point, the suspects began running on the roof and assistance was requested from the Sheriff's Department.

Located on the roof were Kevin E. Warner, 50, of Webb City (pictured on the left) and Matthew J. Henson, 43 of Carthage. Officers also located a bag containing burglary tools. Both subjects were arrested and transported to the Barton County Jail where they remain on charges of Burglary. Bond for each has been set at $2,500.
