Obituary - Eric James Bishop

Eric James Bishop, 28, of Lee’s Summit, was born, March 6, 1990, in Kansas City, the son of Donald Eric and Elizabeth Ann (Renfrow) Bishop. He departed this life Saturday, February 2, 2019, in Kansas City.

Eric was a 2008 Lee’s Summit North High School graduate.

As a teenager Eric started in the concrete industry working for Beacon Contracting, LLC. He most recently worked for the Lime Green Masonry & Concrete Company. He was a member of the New Beginnings Church of the Nazarene in Lee’s Summit. He loved the game of baseball. From grades one through twelve Eric participated in recreational, competitive and high school baseball at Lee’s Summit North. He was also an avid Royals and Chiefs fan. He enjoyed shooting, hunting and was a member of the National Rifle Association. He also loved mountain biking, hiking, camping, traveling, dining out, and especially music. He had a kind, tender spirit and was always encouraging others.

Eric was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, James P. and Hazel M. (Francy) Renfrow.

He is survived by his parents Don and Elizabeth Bishop of Lee’s Summit; his sister, Becca Bishop of Kansas City; paternal grandparents, Kieth E. and Helen Joyce (Clark) Bishop of Kansas City; other relatives and many friends.

Cremation has been accorded.

Visitation will be held 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, February 7, 2019, at the New Generation Christian Center, 800 NW Commerce Dr., Lee’s Summit.

Memorial services will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 8, 2019, at the New Generation Christian Center. Reverend’s Shane Ash and Jake Edwards will officiate.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Welcome House or the Kansas City Rescue Mission and may be sent in care of the funeral home.

Obituary - Dennis L. Tumm

Dennis Lynn Tumm, 56, Nevada, MO passed away on Tuesday, February 5, 2019. Dennis was born August 16, 1962 in Vancouver, WA to Frederick Myron and Janet Ann (Rowlett) Tumm. He was united in marriage to Sonya K. Vannoy on October 10, 1987 in Lake Tahoe, NV and she survives of the home.

Dennis attended Bullard High School in Fresno, CA. He worked as a truck driver for many years in Fresno, CA before coming to Nevada in 1993 where he continued driving a truck until 2001. Dennis assisted Nevada Youth Recreational Baseball in the mowing of the fields for the past 15 years. He was a member of the Nevada Eagles. His hobbies included watching NASCAR, and WWE wrestling on TV, and was an avid bowler.

In addition to his wife Sonya, Dennis he is survived by three children, Samantha Janes and her husband Ryan, Carl Junction, James Tumm and his wife Amanda, Nevada, Jordan Tumm, Nevada; three grandchildren, Alima Tumm, Dylan Tumm, and Madisyn Tumm; his mother, Janet Preston, Nevada; two brothers, Michael Tumm, Altoona, WI, Thomas Tumm, Nevada; several aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 11, 2019 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada with Mark Mitchell officiating. Friends may call now and until the hour of service at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada.

Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association or American Diabetes Association in c/o Ferry Funeral Home.



Obituary - Darrel Lee Carpenter

Darrel Lee Carpenter, 68, Nevada, MO passed away on Wednesday, February 06, 2019 at Medicalodges of Nevada. Darrel was born April 27, 1950 in Bartlett, KS to Floyd Harvey Carpenter, Sr. and Julia Belle (Miler) Carpenter.

Darrel attended Walker High School and graduated with the Class of 1969. He served in the United States Army in Vietnam from 1969-1972. Following his service years he came back to Nevada and worked in various jobs including the Nevada State Hospital for a number of years. Darrel also served in the Kansas National Guard for several years.

Survivors include his mother, Julia B. Carpenter, Nevada; siblings, Bradley Carpenter, Milo, Floyd Carpenter, Jr., Nevada, Janice Williams, Mississippi, Margie Wardin, Nevada, Sarah Wyrick, Lamar, Daniel Carpenter, Nevada, Hal Carpenter, Milo, Larry Carpenter, Nevada, Terry Carpenter, Nevada; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Floyd; three brothers, Randall Carpenter, Carl Carpenter, Earl Carpenter; one sister, Kathy Keith; one sister-in-law, Margie Carpenter.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, February 11, 2019 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada with Pastor Dennis Engelbrecht officiating. Interment with Military Honors will follow in Moore Cemetery in Nevada. The family will receive friends from 4-5 p.m. on Sunday, February 10, 2019 at the funeral home.

Due to the weather forecast and the potential for icy conditions tomorrow, Thursday, February 7th, 2019, the front (public) lobby at the Sheriff's Office will be open, however the main lobby window will not be manned by our secretary / receptionist. If you respond to the Sheriff's Office, please utilize the telephone handset in the lobby for assistance.

Also, while we do not recommend travelling upon the roadways while the ice storm warning is in effect, if it's absolutely necessary to respond to the Sheriff's Office / Detention Center tonight or tomorrow, please exercise extreme caution and watch for any icy conditions within our parking lot, as well as all sidewalks leading to / from our facilities.

Threat of School Shooting in Crawford County Kansas

On February 5, 2019 at approximately 10:00 pm, a Crawford County Deputy that is assigned as a School Resource Officer for USD 247 Southeast School District was contacted by a parent of a student that attends Southeast High School. 

The parent stated that their child had received a threat toward Southeast High School through a group Snapchat with other students from Southeast High School. 

The message stated that the student was going to shoot up the high school the following morning. Further investigation revealed that other Southeast students had also received the threat.

The student making the threat is a resident of Cherokee County and was taken into custody without incident by Deputies from the Crawford and Cherokee County Sheriff's Offices. The student was transported to Girard, and subsequently placed at the Juvenile Detention Center.

The Crawford County Sheriff's Office has requested the student be charged with making a criminal threat.

Nevada woman injured in rollover accident in rural Vernon County

On 2/6/19 around 8:06am the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Vernon County along with Walker Rural Fire District responded to a one vehicle rollover accident on Missouri Route AA around 8 miles south of Schell City.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2006 Saturn Vue driven by 22 year old Victoria R. Colin of Nevada, Missouri slid off the roadway and overturned.

Victoria R. Colin sustained moderate injuries in this accident and she was transported by ambulance to Nevada Regional Medical Center for treatment.

A 3 month old child was also in the vehicle but she wasn't injured.

The vehicle was totaled and towed from the scene by TCB Tow of Nevada, Missouri.
