Structure Fire In Clinton

At 9:14 am on Sunday, February 10, 2019, the Clinton Fire Department was dispatched to a possible structure fire at 1600 North Water Street Lot #18.

Fire personnel on duty, consisting of 4 members, responded in two apparatus. While en route, information was received that the trailer home was unoccupied and fire and smoke was beginning to show from the front door area of the residence.

Upon arrival to the scene, fire personnel found a single wide trailer home with smoke coming from the front of the residence and fire showing from the exterior around the front door. Fire crews deployed a hose line and made their way to the front door of the home to prepare to extinguish the fire. Upon forcing entry into the home, firefighters found a small fire in the interior living room area next to the front door. The fire was quickly brought under control and an investigation began into the cause of the fire.

During the investigation, evidence was found to suggest that the fire had been intentionally set.

The trailer home had been without utilities or active tenants for several years at the time of the fire. After interviewing several neighbors and piecing together information, fire officers on scene requested the assistance of the Missouri State Fire Marshal’s Office to determine a cause.

An investigation is still ongoing and a suspect has not been identified at this time. More information will be released when available.

Fire crews were on scene for approximately 4 hours.
