Update: Victims Identified in Double Fatality House Fire in Strasburg

A double fatality house fire in rural Cass County on Friday is currently under investigation at this time.

The location of this fire was in the 18000 block of S. Shimel Rd. in Strasburg Missouri. 

First responders were called to the scene around 4:10 am Friday morning the single wide trailer was fully engulfed in flames upon their arrival.

The victims of the fire have been identified as James A. Garrett, 78, and his son Dennis W. Garrett, 50, of Strasburg.

Burglary report in rural Adrian

On February 7, 2019 a Deputy responded to State Route FF in Adrian, MO to take a report of a burglary. The reporting party advised the Deputy there were multiple items taken from her barn. 

She stated that she had last seen the items between September of 2018 and January 24, 2019. The items stolen were a Stihl chainsaw, Stihl power washer, Westinghouse generator, Yeti lithium solar battery and a Yeti WIFI solar battery. 

A kids size dirt bike was also taken from the property. It is a 2013 Yamaha TTR that is blue and white in color. The vin on the dirt bike is YBPCA02Y600032121.

One arrested west of Rich Hill

On February 6, 2019 a Deputy checked a suspicious vehicle that was parked on the west side of the water tower west of Rich Hill. 

The Deputy made contact with the occupant of the vehicle. He was identified as Andrew Derry (DOB 1/2/1985). 

Mr. Derry advised the Deputy that he did not have anything illegal and he gave the Deputy consent to search. 

The Deputy located a green case that contained a glass pipe and a small baggie with a white crystal substance inside it. The crystal substance tested positive for methamphetamine.

Derry was placed under arrest and was transported to the Bates County Jail. He was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. He was given a bond of $30,000.00 cash or surety.

From the Henry County Sheriff's Office

Bryan Sharp, age 20 of Clinton was taken into custody on his local warrants for receiving stolen property, probation violation on original charge of possession of a controlled substance. 

He was also charged with assault 1st degree and aiding/abetting a person discharging/shooting a firearm at or from a motor vehicle by Henry County Prosecuting Attorney Richard Shields. 

Mr. Sharp had been wanted by the Sheriff's Office for questioning in the January 29, 2019 shooting that occurred near Hwy 52 and Vansant Road.

Melting ice continues to cause occasional problems. As ice falls off the lines it causes the lines to bounce into one another. 

At this time, crews are working to restore power to 60 members in an area southwest of Butler. 

Osage Valley Electric Cooperative Crews will work to restore power as quickly as possible.

One dead after shooting in Belton

On 2-11-19 at around 2 AM, Belton Police, Fire and EMS were dispatched to an address in the 200 block of Manor reference a possible shooting. Upon arrival, officers located a male party who was unresponsive. 

Belton medics confirmed the party was deceased. A witness in the area reported seeing a grey sedan leaving the area southbound shortly after hearing the shots fired. 

The identity of the victim is not being released at this time. Further information on this case will be released when it becomes available.

Shed fire in rural Bates County

The Adrian Fire Department along with Butler Fire Department and Central Cass Fire Department is on scene of a structure fire at 2799 NE State Route 18 Highway around 4 miles west of AA Highway north of Adrian at this time.

A shed is said to be fully engulfed in flames at this time and the cause of the fire is unknown. Several rounds of ammunition and some propane bottles are said to be in the shed.
