Don’t be fooled by the early morning commute! Winter weather returns today after a brief respite. Most locations will receive 2” – 4” of snow, however, isolated areas could see up to 5”.

Heavier snowfall will occur mid-morning through mid-afternoon with visibilities dropping to ½ mile or less resulting in hazardous driving conditions. Please plan accordingly!

Nevada man injured in Vernon County

On 2/14/19 around 10:50am the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Vernon County responded to a two vehicle accident on Quail Road around 1 mile south of Nevada.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 1991 GMC Truck driven by 32 year old Justin M. Duncan of Nevada, Missouri failed to yield and traveled into the path of the 2015 Chevrolet Malibu driven by 24 year old Andrew J. Cezar of Nevada, Missouri.

A passenger in the GMC truck 20 year old Jordan A. Cole of Nevada, Missouri sustained minor injuries in this accident and he was transported by ambulance to Nevada Regional Medical Center for treatment.

The Malibu was removed from the scene by Garwood's Wrecker Service of Nevada, Missouri.

Update: Two Subjects Barricaded in Butler

The Butler Police Department along with Bates County Sheriff's Deputies and Missouri State Highway Patrol is on scene of a two armed people who are barricaded at a apartment located at 403 South Delaware Street in Butler at this time.

The white SUV from the earlier post was found at these apartments and two subjects were detained by police.

The public is asked to stay away from this area until this is resolved.

Mid America Live News will update when more information is made available to us from the Bates County Sheriff's Office.

All subjects are in police custody at this time and scene is clear. 



Obituary - Michael Lee Simpson

Michael “Mike” Lee Simpson, 64, Nevada, MO passed away on February 13, 2019 at his home in Nevada. Michael was born April 11, 1954 in Nevada, MO the son of Valma and Jimmie Simpson. He resided in Nevada with his love, Kelley Adams.

Mike grew up in Nevada, attending school here and graduating before attending college at Missouri Southern State University. He worked at the Missouri State Hospital for 13 years then went on to run a state group home in Joplin, MO. He later drove for Boomerang Trucking from 2001-2013, until his retirement. Mike met his significant other, Kelley Adams, in 1997 and they lived together until his abrupt passing.

Mike was a talented, vibrant, spiritual soul who lived life to its fullest. He loved his family and his hobbies, which included gardening, wine making, painting, music, collecting comics, cards, records, and of course – dancing. In his spare time, he enjoyed building model cars and rebuilding muscle cars.

Mike is survived by his significant other, Kelley Adams of the home; his children, daughter, Nicole Curry, Overland Park, KS, daughter, Sacha Schafersman (Mike), Corpus Christi, TX, daughter, Noelle Fast (Shane), El Dorado Springs, MO, son, Ian Simpson (Ashley), Nevada, son, Evan Simpson, Mound City, KS, daughter, Ariel Simpson, Lawrence, KS; 11 grandchildren, Caleb, Carly, Erik, Hailey, Maddie, Hunter, Victor, Halibel, Holland, Azrael, and Adeline; siblings, Debbie Smith, Nevada, Bruce Simpson, Nevada, Janet Day, Nevada, David Simpson, Nevada; numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, in-laws and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Jimmie and mother, Valma.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, February 18, 2019 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada.

Police looking for vehicle that shot at a house west of Butler

Bates County Sheriff's Deputies and MSHP have responded to a call in reference to a white GMC SUV shooting at a house west of Butler. 

The vehicle was last seen westbound from the water plant area on 52 west. 

The vehicle is possibly occupied by three subjects. If you see a vehicle that matches that description contact the Sheriffs Office at 6793232.
