Obituary - Hazel Irene Carnahan

Hazel Irene Carnahan age 75, formerly of Rich Hill, Missouri passed away Sunday, April 28th, at the Butler Medicalodge.

Funeral services are scheduled at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 2nd, at the Heuser Funeral Home, Rich Hill.

The burial will follow in the Green Lawn Cemetery, Rich Hill. Memorials to a Hazel Irene Carnahan Fund are suggested.

Promenade at Butler Medicalodge

Prom is a very special time for juniors and seniors in high school. For seniors it marks the ending of the high school days, years of hard work and study leading up to graduation.

Butler High School Juniors and Seniors came by Medicalodge in Butler for a little Promenade for our residents. 17 couples came to show off their fancy gowns and tux's.

Thanks so much kids for taking the time to stop by. Sharing your day meant so much to our residents who thoroughly enjoyed it.

Isolated Strong Storms & Flash Flooding Tonight

Another round of scattered showers and storms are expected later tonight.

Some storms may approach severe limits with hail larger than 1" possible with the strongest activity.

Heavy rain and isolated flash flooding will also be possible as soils remain saturated from yesterday's heavy rains.

Drivers Remember – Watch for Motorcycles

JEFFERSON CITY – As the weather warms up, so do the engines on motorcycles. The Missouri Coalition for Roadway Safety wants to remind motorists and motorcyclists alike to “Watch for Motorcycles” in order to help prevent motorcycle crashes, deaths and injuries on Missouri roadways.

“Preliminary data shows that approximately 12% of Missouri traffic fatalities in 2018 involved a motorcycle, with 115 motorcyclist lives lost” said Jon Nelson, MoDOT assistant to the state highway safety and traffic engineer. “We want to see that number decrease this year by reminding both motorcyclists and all other drivers to follow basic safety rules and never drive distracted or impaired.”

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration offers the following tips to drivers on how to prevent a fatal crash with a motorcycle:

· Allow the motorcycle the full width of a lane at all times.

· Always signal when changing lanes or merging with traffic.

· Check all mirrors and blind spots for motorcycles before changing lanes or merging with traffic, especially at intersections.

· Never drive distracted or impaired. Buckle up phone down.

Motorcyclists must also take precautions to remain safe on the road. Motorcyclists can increase their safety by following these steps:

· Wear a DOT-compliant helmet and other protective gear.

· Obey all traffic laws and be properly licensed and trained.

· Wear brightly colored clothes and reflective tape to increase visibility.

· Ride in the middle of the lane where you will be more visible to drivers.

· Never ride distracted or impaired.

· Anticipate the moves of other drivers and be extra cautious of road conditions and debris.

Experts recommend riders also complete motorcycle training before getting out on the road. There are 25 training locations in Missouri. You can find the one nearest you at www.mmsp.org.

Archie School District Closed Today

Due to hazardous road conditions and severe flooding on our rural routes the Archie School District will not be in session today, May 1, 2019.

Suspect caught after stealing vehicle from funeral home

On April 11, 2019, officers responded to Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home, 900 East US 54 Highway, concerning a reported motor vehicle theft.

The investigation revealed a black 2000 Chevrolet Suburban was stolen from the garage. A suspect was later identified during the investigation.

April 18, 2019, officers arrested John R. Fisher, 35, for the probable cause of Tampering, Burglary, and Stealing. Officers completed a probable cause statement for these charges.

Officers later received a Cedar County Felony Warrant charging Fisher with Second Degree Burglary, First Degree Tampering with a Motor Vehicle, and Stealing with a $25,000.00 bond. He was transferred to the Cedar County Jail pending bond and a court appearance.

The Adrian School District will be canceled today due to water over the roads in several place.

Just an update on the weather. It’s going to rain. Now with all the formalities out of the way we wanted to let you know that we are experiencing flooding throughout the county. 

Please please please don’t drive through high water. You’re important to us and we want to make sure you safely wake up in the morning at home.

Parents: please have a conversation with your young drivers about driving in high water and the dangers associated with that.
