Hudson elementary students take trip to the past...

Hudson 5th through 8th grade classes traveled to the Steamboat Arabia Museum last week and got a first hand view of the treasures unearthed 45 feet below a Kansas cornfield 
 
When the mighty Steamboat Arabia sank near Kansas City on September 5, 1856, she carried 200 tons of mystery cargo. Lost for 132 years, its recovery in 1988 was like finding the King Tut’s Tomb of the Missouri River. The discovery was truly a modern day treasure-hunting story at its best.

The artifacts are preserved and displayed at the Arabia Steamboat Museum, located in the historic City Market. From clothing, fine china and carpentry tools to guns, dishes and children’s toys to the world’s oldest pickles—the collection captivates visitors of all ages.

Miami R-1 welcomes 2019 Valedictorian Brianne Popplewell

Brianne Popplewell is 2019's Miami valedictorian. She plans on going to Crowder College her first year and then on to Penn valley to finish out her degree as a Radiologist.  She is the daughter of Patrick and Michelle Popplewell.
Her parents couldn't be more prouder of her achieving this accomplishment.

Graduation Ceremonies for Miami R-1 High School will be held Friday evening starting at 8pm.

Unseasonably Hot and Humid Today


It's going to be unseasonably hot and humid today, with highs in the lower 90s. An active weather pattern begins Saturday, with multiple rounds of showers and storms expected through the first half of next week. 

If you have outdoor plans Saturday (perhaps a graduation party), be aware that showers and storms are likely during the afternoon and evening. Some of those storms could be severe.

Search Warrant Served in Barton County

On 05-14-2019 The Barton County Sheriff's Office, Lamar Police Department and the ODET drug task force executed a search warrant at 1503 Broadway in Lamar. 

The reason for the search was to search for illegal drugs that was alleged to be in the home. 

At the conclusion of the search two people were arrested for being in possession of a controlled substance. 

Timothy D. Kennon, age 58 and Anna Satoe, age 49, both of Lamar are being held in the Barton County jail on a 24 hour hold for investigation awaiting formal filing of criminal charges. Reports are being sent to the Barton County Prosecutor for consideration in the filing of formal criminal charges.

At approximately 4:30pm on 05-15-2019 warrants were served to Timothy D. Kennon, and Anna Satoe, for the criminal charge (class D felony) of possession of a controlled substance. Both subjects have a $5,000 dollars cash or surety bond. The have been given the 06-04-2019 court date.
