Schell City woman injured in Vernon County Crash

On 5/28/19 around 12:35pm the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Vernon County responded to a one vehicle accident on Route C around 1 mile west of New Haven.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2000 Toyota Sienna driven by 72 year old Patty M. McCurdy of Schell City, Missouri ran off the roadway and struck a culvert.

Patty M. McCurdy sustained minor injuries in this accident and she was transported by ambulance to Bates County Memorial Hospital for treatment.

The vehicle was totaled and towed from the scene by Phillips Tow of Nevada, Missouri.

Missouri State Highway Patrol Seeking Information About Homicide In Benton County

The Benton County Sheriff’s Office has requested the assistance from the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control, with an investigation of a homicide in rural Benton County, east of Lincoln, Missouri. 

The victim was identified as Matthew Reyburn, 21, of Lincoln, Missouri. 

Anyone with information regarding this homicide is asked to contact the Benton County Sheriff’s Office at (660) 438-5252 or the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Troop A Headquarters, (816) 622-0800. The investigation is ongoing.


Obituary - Doris J. Redford

Doris Redford, age 85, of Clinton, MO, died on May 27, 2019, at Clinton HealthCare and Rehabilitation.

Doris was born on August 14, 1933 in Osceola, Missouri, to Omar Barnum and Vera Newton Barnum. Doris married Chester Redford on August 28, 1951 in Clinton, Missouri. Doris worked at Rival Manufacturing and Unitog. She retired when Unitog closed. She was a member of Northeast Baptist Church and a life member of VFW Post #1894 of Clinton.

Doris is survived by her children, Audrey Pugh, Tightwad, MO and Ronald (Wanda) Redford, Clinton, MO; five grandchildren, Aleatha Crose (Mark), Jeremy Smith (Candy), Ernie Redford (Lou), Sheryl Goucher (Archie, Sr.) and Crystal Roskop (Troy); sixteen great-grandchildren, Michael, Justin, Dani, Clint, Sam, Audrey, Jenna, Trinity, Drake, Archie, Jr., Whitney, Jacob, Mason, Carson, Michael and Dakota; four great-great-grandchild; brother-in-law, Robert L. Redford (Susie), California; sisters-in-law, Faye Redford, Oklahoma and Vera Barnum, England; many friends.

Preceding Doris in death were her parents; husband, Chester; five brothers, Leroy, Edward, Paul, Carl, and Orval; her sister, Juanita; nephews, Dale and Joey Redford; son-in-law, Robbie Pugh.

The family will receive visitors on Thursday, May 30, 2019, at 1:00 PM at Consalus Funeral Home. Funeral Services will follow at 2:00 PM. Burial will be in Norris Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the donor’s choice and left in care of Consalus Funeral Home, 209 S. 2nd, Clinton, MO 64735.


One arrested in Stockton

05/27/2019 14:30 Cedar County Sheriff's Office dispatched Deputies to a residence in Stockton in reference to an assault and theft of a firearm.

Deputies responded to the scene and determined there was a roommate dispute over property.

Suspect Danny Cole pulled a semi-automatic pistol from his hip and pointed it at the victim. The victim then disarmed Cole and struck him with the pistol and fled from the residence while Cole grabbed a knife.


Danny T. Cole, of Stockton was charged with Unlawful use of a weapon and is being held in the Cedar County Jail on 5,000 cash/surety bond.

It should be remembered that a charge is merely an accusation and all defendants are innocent until proven guilty.

Obituary - Linda Lurline (Ford) Hayes

Linda Lurline Hayes, 65, Warwick, RI, formerly of Sheldon, passed away on Monday, May 27, 2019 at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin, MO. Linda was born July 2, 1953 in Ft. Leavenworth, KS to John Donald and Lurline (Lindley) Ford. She was united in marriage to Clayton Charles Hayes on August 27, 1972 in Sheldon, MO and he survives of the home.

Linda and her brothers were raised by their mother and grandparents in Sheldon, MO. She was baptized at and a long-time member of the Sheldon Christian Church. After graduating as valedictorian from Sheldon High School in 1971, she had a decades long career as a registered nurse. She worked at many hospitals, and retired from Boone Hospital Center in Columbia, MO in 2008.

Lifelong learning was one of her core values and in her 40s/50s she would complete a BA in History and an MA in Public Administration from the University of Missouri. After she retired, she would continue to learn by taking classes through the OLLI at the University of Missouri and University of Rhode Island.

She and her husband Clayton lived by the motto “Do as much as you can for as long as you can” as evidenced by her devotion to Mizzou Women’s Athletics. She also kept to this motto throughout her life through planning adventures for her husband, children, and grandson.

Linda was committed to making the world better and more equitable. She was a supporter of the Girl Scouts, an advocate for the ERA, and a founding member of the Center Project in Columbia, MO.

In addition to her husband Clayton, she is survived by her daughter Lara Hayes and son-in-law Dominic Molon, her son Nicholas Hayes and son-in-law Andrew Breen, her grandson John Molon, her brothers Michael Ford and John Ford and his wife Shiela, and numerous aunts, nephews, nieces, and cousins. She was proceeded in death by her mother Lurline Ford (née Lindley).

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 31, 2019 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada. Interment will follow in Sheldon Cemetery in Sheldon, MO. The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 p.m. on Thursday evening at the funeral home.

Obituary - Shawn Michael Graves

Shawn Michael Graves, 50, Nevada, MO passed away unexpectedly at his home on Sunday, May 26, 2019. Shawn was born March 4, 1969 in International Falls, MN to Darrell Irvin and Rae Lene (Servis) Graves.

Shawn grew up in International Falls and moved to Nevada in 1997. He has been employed by 3M Nevada since that time.

He is survived by one daughter, Kaysha Graves, Superior, MN; one grandson, Jimi Molkness, International Falls, MN; his mother, Rae Lene Servis, Gibson, OK; and one sister, Missy Graves, International Falls, MN.

No services are planned at this time.
