Obituary - Ernest Lee Floor Sr.

Ernest Lee Floor, Sr., 86, Nevada, MO passed away on Friday, May 31, 2019 at National Healthcare in Joplin following a lengthy illness. 

Ernest was born November 18, 1939 in Akron, IN, to Leo and Geneva Bell (Roberts) Floor. He was married to Joann Rosas for 22 years and she preceded him in death in 2013, he was to married Mary Sanders and after 35 years of marriage she preceded him in death on March 30, 2016. On September 16, 2016 he married Kathleen Schwedler and she survives of the home.

Ernest was raised in Akron, IN and following high school he joined the United States Navy serving 20 years retiring in 1974 as Chief Petty Officer. During his time in the Navy he served in the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. Following his retirement from the military he moved to Dallas, TX and worked at a number of jobs including working for East Town Osteopathic Hospital in Dallas, the Ft. Worth Club, Federal Reserve in Dallas, and the Fairmont Hotel. He has resided in Nevada for the past two and a half years. Ernest enjoyed hunting and fishing, preaching, in recent years he did paint by numbers painting, and loved watching his purple martins. Ernest was a current member of the Sulphur Springs Baptist Church, El Dorado Springs, MO and former member of the Decatur Avenue Baptist Church in Ft. Worth, TX.

Ernest was preceded in death by his parents, two wives; brother, Bob Floor; sisters; Nila Floor, Juanita Ryan, Sandy Presley, and Elizabeth Floor. In addition to his wife, Kathleen he is survived by five children; Donna Wolken (Dale) Erie, KS, Ernest Floor Jr. (Susan) Asbury, MO, Terry Floor (Alena) Lemon Grove, CA, Sherry Morrison (Ray) Aurora, CO, Ben Floor (Linda) Grand Rapids, MI; fifteen grandchildren; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; siblings, Pat Ryan, Show Low, AZ, David Floor, Phoenix, AZ, and Charlotte Elder, Show Low, AZ; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and special friends.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 6, 2019 in the Decatur Avenue Baptist Church in Ft. Worth, TX with Pastor Travis Welch officiating. Graveside Services with Military Honors will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the Restland Cemetery in Dallas, Texas.

Memorials may be made to the Sulphur Springs Baptist Church, El Dorado Springs, MO in care of Ferry Funeral Home.


Open today: Bates County Industries

 It's been a long, painful journey of recovery from a fire last August at Bates County Industries, just off of TT highway. The doors are again open for business today, as recycling is being accepted via drop off. Hopefully, trucks will be available soon for pick up; Mid America Live will provide updates as they become available.



Harrisonville Farmers Market now open for the 2019 season

The Harrisonville Farmers Market opened for the 2019 season on Saturday and saw a fantastic turnout!

Approximately 187 customers visited 16 vendors, who were set up on the historic #Harrisonville Square!

We appreciate all who worked so hard to get things ready for the 2019 season! 

We also want to remind YOU that the Farmer's Market will continue every Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon, through the month of September.

Despite weather, Relay for Life successful


The annual Relay for Life event on the Butler square Saturday got very close to the goal of reaching $40,000 in donations for the American Cancer Society. Shortly after the kickoff at 4 pm, skies turned threatening but cleared up in short order allowing the schedule to resume.


Organizers wish to thank everyone who donated their time, money or both. We’ll see you next year.

Hume student earns state saddle bronc champion title

Hume High School's own Blake Steuck is the 2018-2019 Missouri state saddle bronc champion. Blake has qualified for Nationals in Rock Springs, Wyoming and has won several prizes. 

Blake is the son of Brad and Denise Steuck of Hume; GOOD LUCK in Wyoming.
