Obituary - Patricia Ann Biles

Patricia Ann Biles, 73, Harrisonville, MO, passed away Thursday, June 20,2 019 at Meadow View of Harrisonville, Harrisonville, MO.  

Cremation with memorial services to be held at a later date.


Clinton Firefighter injured battling house fire last night

The Clinton Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 328 W. Gravel Street at 8:43 PM Thursday, June 20th. Upon arrival, fire fighters were informed by the occupant that everyone was out of the residence.

Fire fighters encountered heavy smoke conditions along with fire showing in the rear of the structure. A second alarm was requested for additional personnel to respond to the scene.

Fire personnel were on scene 4 ½ hours extinguishing the fire & working on remaining hot spots. The home was a total loss & displaced one occupant, Rick Greer, who is being assisted by the Red Cross at this time.

A Clinton fire fighter, Colt Waggoner, sustained a moderate elbow injury due to a fall from a ladder. The fire started in the kitchen & due to the extent of fire damage an exact cause was undetermined.


Obituary - Marie J. Darnell

Marie J. Darnell, 78, Garden City, MO, passed away Wednesday, June 19, 2019 at Centerpoint Medical Center in Independence, MO. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Monday, June 24, 2019 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville, MO, with visitation from 3:30-4:00. Burial will follow in Austin Cemetery, Archie, MO.

Marie was born June 17, 1941 in Van Buren, AR, a daughter of Herschel and Ruth (Tuggle) McVeety. She was a graduate of Carson City Nevada High School. Marie married Warren Lee Darnell on August 24, 1985 in Bartlesville, OK. They moved to the Harrisonville area in 1999. She was a member of Church on the Rock in Lee’s Summit, MO and had worked as a cashier for Wal-Mart.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Warren on October 24, 2011, and one daughter, Lisa Marie. She is survived by a daughter, Becky Gibson, San Francisco, CA; one son, Raymond Osborne; 4 grandsons, and 3 great-grandchildren.




New Troopers Assigned to Troop A

Missouri State Highway Patrol Captain Scott A. Shipers, commanding officer of Troop A, Lee’s Summit, is pleased to announce the assignment of 10 new troopers to Troop A. 

The new troopers are members of the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s 107th Recruit Class, which graduated from the Missouri State Highway Patrol Law Enforcement Academy today, June 21, 2018. The troopers report for duty on July 8, 2019.

Trooper Zachary D. Thomas, a native of Joliet, Illinois, has been assigned to Zone 4, which serves the citizens of Clay County. Trooper Thomas graduated from Joliet West High School in Joliet, Illinois. He holds a Bachelor of Science in criminal justice from Chicago State University in Chicago, Illinois.

Trooper Brennen S. Floray, a native of Marceline, Missouri, has been assigned Zone 4, which serves the citizens of Clay County. Trooper Floray graduated from Marceline R-V High School, in Marceline, Missouri. He holds a Bachelor of Science in exercise science from Missouri State University in Springfield, Missouri.

Trooper Troy M. Broyles, a native of Doniphan, Missouri, has been assigned to Zone 5, which serves the citizens of Carroll and Ray counties. Trooper Broyles graduated from Couch High School, in Couch, Missouri. He holds an Associate of Arts in general studies from Missouri State University¯West Plains, in West Plains, Missouri.

Trooper Nicholas T. Ott, a native of Cameron, Missouri, has been assigned to Zone 5, which serves Carroll and Ray counties. Trooper Ott graduated from Cameron R-1 High School in Cameron, Missouri. After high school, he attended Missouri Western State University, in St. Joseph, Missouri.

Trooper Justin D. Howard, of Raymore, Missouri, has been assigned to Zone 6, which serves the citizens of Jackson County. Trooper Howard graduated from Raymore-Peculiar High School in Peculiar, Missouri. He holds a Bachelor of Science in criminal justice from the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg, Missouri.

Trooper Brandon A. Walker, of Webb City, Missouri, has been assigned to Zone 8, which serves the citizens of Lafayette County. Trooper Walker graduated from Webb City High School in Webb City, Missouri. After high school, he attended Missouri Southern State University in Joplin, Missouri. Trooper Walker is also serving in the Missouri Army National Guard.

Trooper Erica P. Volkart, a native of California, Missouri, has been assigned to Zone 10, which serves the citizens of Saline County. Trooper Volkart graduated from California High School in California, Missouri. She holds a Bachelor of Science in criminal justice and a Bachelor of Science in psychology from the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg, Missouri.

Trooper Wes M. Graham, a native of Joplin, Missouri, has been assigned to Zone 12, which serves the citizens of Johnson County. Trooper Graham graduated from McAuley Catholic High School in Joplin, Missouri. He holds a Bachelor of Science in criminal justice administration from Missouri Southern State University in Joplin, Missouri. Trooper Graham is married to Hannah (Fuller).

Trooper William C. Grose, a native of Sedalia, Missouri, has been assigned to Zone 13, which serves the citizens of Pettis County. Trooper Grose graduated from Smith-Cotton High School in Sedalia, Missouri. He holds a Bachelor of Science in paralegal studies from William Woods University in Fulton, Missouri. Trooper Grose is married to Caitlin (Fall) and they have two children.

Trooper Haven L. Clemons, a native of Lamar, Missouri, has been assigned to Zone 15, which serves the citizens of Henry County. Trooper Clemons graduated from Lamar High School in Lamar, Missouri. After high school, Trooper Clemons attended Missouri Southern State University in Joplin, Missouri.

Osage Valley Electric Cooperative reporting several outages

As round two of the storms pass through our area, we do have several outages scattered across our service territory. 

Around 200 members are without power east of Clinton along with outages near Foster, Rich Hill, and northeast of Harrisonville. 

Crews are working to make repairs and will have power restored as quickly as possible.
