Butler man injured in Vernon County motorcycle crash

On 6/23/19 around 12:35pm the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Vernon County responded to a motorcycle accident in the northbound lanes of I-49 around 6 miles north of Nevada, Missouri.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2009 Harley Davidson Ultra Classic driven by 58 year old Steve D. Craft of Butler, Missouri overturned and slid into the median, ejecting the rider.

Mr. Craft sustained moderate injuries in this accident and he was transported to Nevada Regional Medical Center and later to a Kansas City area hospital.

The motorcycle received extensive damages and it was towed from the scene of the accident by Douty's Tow of Butler, Missouri.

Obituary - Jerry Lee Brendlinger

Jerry Lee Brendlinger, 75, Milo, MO passed away on Tuesday, June 25, 2019 at his home in Milo following a long battle with cancer. Jerry was born December 23, 1943 in Aurora, MO to Junior Otis and Dorotha Jean (Kenyon) Brendlinger. He was united in marriage to Debra Lynn Scott on March 18, 1977 in Miami, OK and she survives of the home.

Jerry was raised in Aurora and graduated from Aurora High School in 1961. Following high school he attended Southwest Missouri State University in 1962. Jerry was in the retail business all of his life. When he was 14 years old he began working in a grocery store carrying out groceries and stocking shelves. He eventually became the manager of Ramey’s Supermarket in West Plains, MO and then later the manager of Foodtown Supermarket in Ft. Scott, KS. Jerry was always grateful to Wayne McCune for helping him purchase Maxwell’s Supermarket in Nevada, which later became Thriftway Supermarket, it was in operation for approximately 30 years before its closing.

During the 1980’s Jerry and Debbie lived in Kansas where he worked for the Wichita Coca-Cola Bottling Company, managing the Great Bend Plant for a time and later the plant in Hutchinson, KS. Later, Jerry returned to Wichita and was promoted to Vice-President of the company. He was also the president of Cash-n-Dash Convenience Stores in Nevada until they were sold in 2016. In 2007 he and Mike Shrimplin became co-owners in Carquest Auto Parts in Nevada which is still in operation today.

Jerry was instrumental in starting the yearly Jerry and Len’s Invitational Golf Tournament that continued for approximately 20 years. He was also involved in Jerry and Raul’s Catfish Tournament for many years. Jerry enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and bowling. He was raised in the Southern Baptist Church. His memberships include BPO Elks in Nevada where he was Past Exalted Ruler in 1997, and the Osage Masonic Lodge #303 in Nevada.

In addition to his wife Debbie, he is survived by his mother, Dorotha Brendlinger, Marionville, MO; two brothers, Carl Brendlinger and his wife Pat of Moberly, MO, Terry Brendlinger and his wife Brenda, Crossville, TN; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 29, 2019 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada. Interment will follow in Olive Branch Cemetery in Milo. The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 p.m. on Friday evening at the funeral home.

Bates County Court News 6/25/19

Here is the court action for last week….

Recent Court proceedings at the Bates County Courthouse during trial week included a guilty verdict in the trial of Alisha Rider. Judge Journey will sentence Rider on July 25, for 2 counts of felony possession of a controlled substance.

James L. Bedford pleaded guilty to Felony Possession of a controlled substance and was given 7 years in the Missouri Department of Corrections. Judge Journey retained jurisdiction and Bedford was ordered to serve 120 days shock at MDOC.

Judge Journey accepted a guilty plea from Tricia Werneke for one count of Felony Possession of a controlled substance. Werneke was given a 5-year suspended imposition of sentence, 200 hours of community service, and a $300.00 fine for a misdemeanor charge of unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

Christopher Foss pleaded guilty to 4 counts of endangering the welfare of a child. Judge Journey ordered Foss to 6 months of supervised probation for each count to run concurrently.

Melissa Ann Tabor pleaded guilty to 2 counts of felony passing bad checks and 3 counts of misdemeanor passing bad checks. Tabor also pleaded guilty to one county of felony stealing and was given a 5-year suspended imposition of sentence and was ordered to pay $3393.38 in restitution, and ordered to perform 200 hours of community service. Judge Journey also ordered Tabor to pay a 400.00 fine.

Also given a 5-year imposition of sentence and 200 hours of community service was Jill Colleen Callahan for endangering the welfare of a child, Possession of a controlled substance and a $250.00 fine for misdemeanor unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

Dale Shinn was given a suspended execution of sentence for felony possession of a controlled substance, 5 years supervised probation, 100 hours of community service, 6 months suspended execution of sentence for DWI, 2 years of supervised probation, a 500.00 fine and 80 hours of community service. Judge Journey also imposed a 100.00 fine for exceeding the posted speed limit and a 100.00 fine for driving while suspended.

Robert E. Beck was given a 5-year SIS for Felony Domestic Assault, 5 years of supervised probation. Judge Journey also ordered Beck to complete an intensive program for batterers, the BIP program and 200 hours of community service.

Raymond N Roland was sentenced to 5 years in the Missouri Department of Corrections for Felony DWI charges and ordered to spend 2 days in the County Jail.

Mary Clara Bruce, 94, Harrisonville, Missouri departed this life on Sunday, June 23, 2019 at the Crown Care Center, Harrisonville.

Graveside services will be 3:00 p.m. Saturday, June 29, 2019 at the Freeman Cemetery, Freeman, Missouri.

Moving Wall Vietnam Veterans Memorial In Harrisonville

The Moving Wall Vietnam Veterans memorial wall will be in Harrisonville Mo June 27th through July 1st on display. American Legion post 42 is hosting the wall's visit paying tribute to the men and women who lost their lives in the war. 

Opening ceremonies are set for Thursday June 27th at 7pm at that time we will pay tribute to the gold star families of Cass County who lost family members in the war. 

The Moving Wall is a half size replica of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington DC that tours the country each year giving veterans and families a chance to honor the memory of the families and friends that were lost if they can not make it to the Wall in Washington DC.

THIS WEEK: The Moving Wall Vietnam Veterans memorial will arrive in#Harrisonville and will be on display near Mill Walk Mall!
Join us Thursday at 7 p.m. for an opening ceremony, as we welcome The Wall and honor those who have served to defend our country.
