Drexel man escapes serious injuries in Cass County Crash

On 7/2/19 around 6:30pm the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Cass County along with Cass County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a two vehicle accident on Route D at 195th Street in rural Cass County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2002 Volvo driven by 46 year old Rebecca L. Cross of Overland Park, Kansas pulled into the path and was struck by the 2013 Dodge driven by 45 year old Robert M. Cummings II of Drexel, Missouri.

Robert M. Cummings sustained moderate injuries in this accident and her refused medical treatment at the scene.

A passenger in Rebecca L. Cross's vehicle 11 year old Venice A Cross sustained minor injuries in this accident and medical treatment was also refused at the scene.

Both vehicles were totaled and towed from the scene of the accident by J's Southland Tow.

Obituary - Jean Malone

Memorial services for Gwendolyn Jean Malone will be 2:00 p.m., Monday, July 8, 2019 at the Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel (660-679-6555) in Butler, Missouri. 

Visitation will be prior to services from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., on Monday July 8 at the Schowengerdt Chapel. 

Inurnment will follow in the Benjamin Cemetery near Amoret, Missouri. Contributions may be sent to the House of Hound, Butler, Missouri or the Show Me Christian Youth Home, Lamont, Missouri.

Gwendolyn Jean Malone, age 81 of Lee's Summit, Missouri formerly of Amoret, Missouri passed away on Friday, June 28, 2019 at Saint Luke's East Hospital in Lee's Summit, Missouri. She was born March 3, 1938 to Raymond Stephen and Juanita Jessie Lingenfetter Warren in Amoret, Missouri. In 1956 she married her high school sweetheart, Ted L. Malone.

Jean is survived by three daughters, Becky Dyer of Lee's Summit, Missouri; Molly Malone of Columbia, Missouri; and Jan Malone and husband Craig Blackburn of Ft. Collins, Colorado; seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and one on the way; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great nephews. Jean was preceded in death by her parents; husband Ted L. Malone on August 10, 2016; sisters Maxine and Lucille, and brother Bill; and son-in-law Allen Dyer.

Butler City Council News 7/2/19

July 2nd- Council Meeting Recap:

**Personnel Committee met to discuss the retirement of Mary Jo Cook and decide how to fill the position. Mary Jo has been an employee of the City of Butler for over 40 years- We thank her for her wonderful work and dedication! It was decided and officially voted on during regular session to promote Gayle Alexander to fill this City Office Manager position. Congratulations Gayle! It was also voted to put out a Job Opening notice for the Administrative Assistant position that Gayle will be vacating.

Furthermore, the council approved a final Job Description Position ad to run in the search for a City Administrator.

**City Owned Facilities Committee met and discussed the Sanitation Contract, the Senior Taxi and voted to accept a roof repair bid from SUN Construction to do some immediate, necessary repairs on the fire department building to stop the leaks. A committee including myself, Dale Newkirk, Jeff Hall, Linn Nitsche along with the fire chief and police chief was formed to start discussion on future options for our fire and police station buildings. After the council met with Patricia Pike last week, we were made aware of MANY potential grant options that are available for us to apply for that have NOT been taken advantage of. This is a VERY exciting project to me! I definitely think we can come up with some great solutions to our current building issues. I will keep you posted as we learn more!

**It was reported that the 2019 Street Project is almost complete! The contractor hopes to finish tomorrow! I think the completed streets are a great start to showing the citizens that we are moving foward in a good direction!

**It was reported that a contract for demolition of 114 E Dakota has been completed and should be in progress soon!

**The auditors have been performing their field work with the City and hope to wrap up by July 8th. They will present their full report in the fall.

**Some GOOD NEWS: MDNR notified the City that the current wastewater situation has been approved to be put on a 20 year compliance schedule. There will be future upgrades required to our Wastewater Treatment Plan or other solutions needed, BUT we now have TIME to PLAN for these options! There are potential grant matches with low interest funding options, etc that we will be researching as we start to develop a strategy once we learn more details of future requirements.

**Guest Carolyn Jett updated council on the Historic Preservation Committee that she is a member of. They have been compiling a list of historic buildings in town and are putting together resources to help the owners preserve these parts of Butler's history.

**Chamber of Commerce was granted approval for their July 27th Car Show on the Square as well as their Sept 7th Huckster's Day and BBQ event.

**There was discussion regarding the City's current Centurylink bill. It has come to light that the bill has not been reviewed for many years. Jerret Wheatley and Corey Snead are working diligently to get credit for old lines not in use as well as bundling services to significantly lower this bill and save some money. Well done!

**Another Town Hall Meeting was discussed and tentatively scheduled for Monday, Aug 12th at 7pm (as long as it does not interfere with any school functions planned and venue is available). We really appreciated those who attended and participated and we hope that we have many more attend this next one! It is so important that you let us know your ideas, thoughts, concerns and feedback so that we can make decisions that are in the best interest of the Citizens of Butler!

71st Annual Henry County Fair

Obituary - Dominic Nowak

Dominic Tristin Thomas Nowak, age 24, passed away in the early morning of Saturday, June 29, 2019 in a tragic accident that has forever changed all of our lives. Dominic was born July 13, 1994, in Lamar Missouri, to Sara Beth Allen and Thomas Matthew Nowak.

Dominic completed all of his grade school in Nevada, MO. He spent his elementary in Saint Mary’s Catholic school and then moved to public school where he graduated high school from Nevada in 2012. After graduation Dominic moved himself with his mother to Ohio to pursue a career in pipelining. Throughout his years at work he worked in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Louisiana, and Texas. Dominic was very proud of his work and took pride in being able to withstand the intense labors of working such a physically demanding career. As a young man coming into this field he went to work everyday resilient and proud, earning the upmost respect from his coworkers. He had recently passed his CIP (Certified Coding Inspector) exam, resulting in a promotion of becoming an inspector of the job site. Dominic worked extremely hard, sometimes working seven days a week, 12+ hours a day, saving for his future. Dominic had plans of buying a large house in the country in hope that one day he could raise his family together with his brothers and sisters with him.

When Dominic wasn’t working more than anything he enjoyed nature and being outside. Whether it was hiking, canoeing, or simply enjoying the sunshine that’s where he was happy. In his time away from work he would visit different places and wanted travel and eventually see the world. Dominic took very good care of himself, trying to eat healthy and had a hobby of going to the gym and lifting weights.

More than anything Dominic loved his friends and family and spending time with them. That time was the most precious thing to him. With his caring and kind heart making sure everyone was alright was what Dominic always did. Being around his loved ones, helping with anything that he could. He always wanted his family to be close and reaching out to as many people as he could, he always wanted to stay in close contact and made sure everyone knew he loved them, and in return we will always love him as well.

Dominic will sadly be missed by everyone that knew him. He was someone that was so full of life and brought so much joy into this world he would want everyone to remember his life and celebrate his memory.

Dominic is survived by his mother, Sara Beth Allen and her husband Michael Shane Allen. His father Thomas Matthew Nowak and his wife Ginger Denise Nowak. His grandparents Karen Kay Wallace, Rollin Wallace, Marge Helen Nowak, Clarence Arthur Nowak. His brothers and sisters Matthew Thomas Nowak, Bradley David Nowak, Alexander John Christian Wallace, Tayler Dawn Alexis Nowak, Channing Victoria Quinn Allen, Carsyn Gabrielle Nicole Allen, Benjamin Edgar Nowak, Landree Michael McAllister Allen, Isabella Judith Grace Allen, and Liam Charles Sebastian Allen. He is also survived by his many aunts, uncles, cousins, and nieces.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 6, 2019 at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, MO. Interment will follow in Newton Burial Park, Nevada. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the hour of service.

Information cards now available in Bates County

The Bates County Sheriff’s Office is excited to announce it is participating in providing the following stickers to the residents of Bates County. In an effort to provide quality service to the citizens we will have the following stickers to help inform first responders in the event they answer a call for service for the following medical issues.

Sheriff Anderson said, “it’s important to provide as much information as we can to first responders to help us understand what is going on. We’ve seen these across the state and decided we wanted to also provide those to our community.”

If you have a family member who lives in Bates County that would benefit from these stickers, please visit the Sheriff’s Command Center in Rich Hill over this holiday weekend or after the Holiday they will be at the Sheriffs Office.

Obituary - Betty Lee Stenstrom

Betty Lee Stenstrom, 89, Adrian, MO, passed away Monday, July 1, 2019 at Adrian Manor. 

Funeral services will be held at 9:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 9, 2019 at the St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Butler, MO with burial in Leavenworth National Cemetery in Leavenworth, Kansas at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday. Memorial contributions may be made to the church.
