Obituary - Nadine C. (Marvin) Brower

Nadine C. Brower, 85, Nevada, MO passed away on Monday, July 1, 2019 at Mercy Hospital in Joplin. Nadine was born February 21, 1934 in Kansas City, KS and was raised by her mother Nellie Vie (Thompson) and step-father Lawrence Chaldecott.

She lived and worked in Kansas City, MO for a number of years. In 1970 she came to Nevada where she worked for Moore-Few Care Center as a nurse’s aide. Later she worked at the Nevada State Hospital in the dietary department until her retirement. Nadine enjoyed visiting with friends and family, and always loved her cup of coffee.

From Nadine’s marriage to Richard E. Hand, seven children were born. Surviving children include Karen Roberts of Stockton, MO; Larry Hand and wife Shelia of Nevada; Richard Hand and wife Stacie of Neosho; Sherry Weber of Nevada; and Tammy Wehmeyer and husband Bill of Milo. Nadine is also survived by 19 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and several half-brothers and -sisters. Nadine was preceded in death by two daughters, Barbara DePue and Teresa Collier.

Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 8, 2019 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada. Committal will follow in Moore Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the family c/o Ferry Funeral Home.


Obituary - Charles Robert Allen

Charles “Bob” Allen was born on January 8, 1937 in Pittsburg, KS and passed away at the age of 82 at his home in rural Sheldon on Tuesday, July 2, 2019.

He is survived by his wife, Eunice, of the home, a brother, James Winfred Allen II, four children, Charles “Chuck” Allen (Mary), Robert ”Robbie” Allen, Sean Allen (Karen), Thomas “Tommy” Allen (Jolie), two step-sons, Brian Brasher and Douglas “Doug” Nall (Nicole). He also leaves behind 16 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Bob enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1955. He served a 16 month tour during the Korean War where he earned several medals including the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Star. He was discharged in 1959 and a few years later joined the National Guard until his discharge in 1993.

He graduated from Pittsburg State University with a Master’s Degree in history and earned his Administrative Degree from the University of Central Missouri.

Bob was Superintendent of Hume School District after which he became Superintendent of the Metz School District until 1985. He then became employed as a Habitation Specialist for the State Hospital in Nevada, MO until his retirement in 1998.

In addition to being a history buff he enjoyed hunting, recreational boating, and being with his family.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Charles and Rosa Farrell, his parents, James Winfred and Lavon Eva Allen, and his sister, Alys Jo”Jody” Schartz.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday July 5, 2019 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada. Interment with Military Honors will follow in the National Cemetery, Ft. Scott, KS. The family will receive friends from 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to the service.


Obituary - Glenda York

Glenda York, 84 of Butler, Missouri passed away Wednesday, July 3, 2019 at Medicalodge of Butler. 

Funeral Services will be held 2:00 pm Friday, July 5, 2019 at Mullinax Funeral Home, Butler (660-679-0009). There will be no visitation.

Obituary - Dianne Dee Beatty

Memorial graveside services for Dianne Beatty will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 10, 2019 at Virginia Cemetery in Virginia, Missouri. There is no visitation. Dianne Dee Beatty, age 80 of Butler, Missouri died Sunday, June 30, 2019 at Medicalodge in Butler. She was born March 28, 1939 to Teddy Warren and DeEtta Mae Maloney McGuire in Bates County, Missouri.

Dianne is survived by a son, Shayne King; a daughter, Vanessa Beatty; two brothers, David McGuire and Teddy McGuire; and a sister, Debbie Gyser.

Obituary - Frank "Bubby" Sherrick

Bubby, a 66 year old gentle soul, passed away on Tuesday, July 2, 2019 at Nevada Nursing and Rehab. During his time there he acquired many special friends. Bubby was a devoted fan of Rickey Nelson, favorite song “Hello, Mary Lou”, and his favorite food was cheeseburgers and french fries.

Bub was born July 19, 1953 in Nevada, MO, a special gift from God to Frank Oley and Daisy Mae Matthews Sherrick.

Bubby is survived by his sister, Mary L. Werst of Nevada, MO; one brother, Thomas Andrew Sherrick and his wife Dianna of Vero Beach, FL; one niece, Lisa Nicewaner, her husband Sean and daughter, Paige Nicewaner of Liberty, MO; one nephew, Shawn Werst and his son, Gavon Werst of Springfield, MO. He was preceded in death by both parents.

Graveside services will be held at a later date. Bubby always had a smile and a high five for everyone he met.

Those who wish may contribute to the Church of the Nazarene in memory of Bub in care of Ferry Funeral Home.


Shots Fired in St. Clair County

On July 2, at approximately 11:40 p.m., St. Clair County deputies were dispatched to a call of shots fired at a residence off of SW 600 Road, El Dorado Springs. When deputies arrived on scene, the subject shot at the deputies with a shotgun. The pellets stuck a patrol vehicle and one pellet did strike a deputy on the finger, causing a minor injury. 

A second patrol vehicle was struck with two .22 caliber rounds. Two females were escorted safely from the residence. A perimeter was established and a yard light was shot out.

Additional gun shots were heard inside the residence during attempted negotiations. After failing to get a response from the subject; St. Clair County deputies made entry into the house to discover the subject deceased from an apparent self inflicted gunshot wound.

The subject was identified as Mark Harris, 42, El Dorado Springs.

Agencies on scene were the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office, Missouri State Highway Patrol, and Citizens Memorial Healthcare Ambulance Services.
