Let's pour some concrete

Cement trucks and concrete crews are lined up and pouring concrete on the new gym project at Miami School!

We will continue to follow the progress of the gym building project at Miami School.

The gym is said to be complete by the beginning of the 2020 year. 






One injured in Cass County motorcycle crash

On 8/11/19 around 6:30pm the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Cass County responded to a motorcycle accident on Route Y at 247th Street in rural Cass County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2012 Kawasaki Motorcycle driven by 42 year old Sarah A. Street of Kansas City, Missouri traveled off the right side of the roadway , partially overturned ejecting her off the bike.

Sarah A. Street sustained serious injuries in this accident and she was transported to Overland Park Regional Medical Center for treatment.





Obituary - Pauline “Polly” Steele

Pauline “Polly” Steele of Bronaugh, Missouri passed away on August 10,2019 surrounded by her loving family and dear caregivers. Polly was a longtime Pittsburg, Kansas resident. 

In Pittsburg she was active and involved as a leader in numerous civic and charitable organizations. 

A former President of Chapter AQ PEO - she continued as a Golden Girl in Chapter AQ until her passing.

Born Pauline Lashbrook December 28, 1927 in Arkansas, Polly is preceded in death by her mother Evelyn Henry and father Robert Paul Lashbrook of Pittsburg, and her sister Betty Mitchell of Dallas.

She is survived by her adoring husband Louis “Lou Mac” Steele; her daughter Missi (Menchetti) Camp and her husband David; her son Paul Menchetti, his wife Terri, and their children Stephanie, Samantha, and Brooke; her step-son Louis D. Steele , and his wife Rachael, and their children Elizabeth and Julie; her step-daughter Linda Phinney, and her husband Mike, and her children John and Kelly.

Polly was, loved, valued, and cherished by her family and friends. Polly had a love for travel and a lifelong appreciation for the beauty of nature. She brought energy, dedication, and positivism to all areas of her life. Her radiant and gentle spirit will be missed.

The family is forever grateful for all the dedication and loving care provided by her caregivers including Vickie Milsap, Susan Ackerson, Martha Caviness, Charlotte Dauben, and Emily Workman. These wonderful women did more than provide excellent care. They became part of the fabric of our family over the years.

The family will have a private service. Donations to the Bronaugh Missouri R-VII School system may be made in Polly’s memory.

Funeral services for Troy Guffey will be 11:30 a.m. Thursday, August 15, 2019 at Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel (660-679-6555) in Butler, Missouri. Visitation will be prior to services from 10-11:30 a.m. Thursday, August 15 at Schowengerdt Chapel. 

Burial will be 1 p.m. Friday, August 16 at Maplewood Cemetery in Clarence, Missouri. Contributions to Giving Fore Living or Butler Public Library. Online condolences, www.schowengerdtchapel.com.

Troy Kent Guffey, age 53 of Butler, Missouri died Saturday, August 10, 2019 at Belton Regional Medical Center in Belton, Missouri. He was born January 13, 1966 to Delbert Earl and Joyce Edrington Guffey in Columbia, Missouri.

Troy is survived by his parents, Delbert and Joyce Guffey of Butler, Missouri; one sister, Leisa Landis and husband Mark of Jefferson City, Missouri and their children, Justin Landis and Emily Stallings and husband Roosevelt; one brother, Lance Guffey and wife Julie of Ballard, Missouri and their children, Shelby, Rylee, Kaden and Greyson. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents and paternal grandparents.

MOCHIP, Missouri Child Identification Program event in Butler


On Saturday, August 17th, 2019 the local Masonic Lodges along with the Bates County Health Dept will be hosting MOCHIP, Missouri Child Identification Program. This a free service offered by the Missouri Masons and the Masonic Children's Home. It is a program set up to act as a safety net, should any terrible happen to your child, ages, 0-18. Bring your child to the MOCHIP event on the the 17th, where they will be fingerprinted, photographed, and have dental identification done. 

This information will then be put on a free CD that is given to you to keep incase your child is ever abducted or lost. This information helps law enforcement tremendously! This day and age we must do all we can to protect our children.
