Butler Police Department seeking public assistance

On 8/17/19 the Butler Police Department took a report of two churches that were broken into over the weekend.

Happy Hill Church of God on South Main Street and St. Patrick's Catholic Church on Nursery Street both had windows broken out and money and objects stolen on Friday night or early Saturday morning.

Two bass guitars one of them being a Ibanez and the other a Pevy also some Walmart gift cards were all taken.

Obituary - Shirley Ann "Mammie" Chambers

Shirley Ann "Mammie" Chambers, age 84, La Cygne, Kansas passed away on Friday August 16, 2019. 

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 am Thursday, August 22, 2019 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, La Cygne, Kansas. Burial will be Fort Scott National Cemetery. 

The rosary will be prayed at 4:30 pm Wednesday at the Church, followed by sharing of memories and visitation until 7 pm at the Church.

Police Pursuit in Barton County

On 08/16/2019, at approximately 10:36pm Deputy Sheriff Zakk Yokley with the Barton county sheriff’s office was patrolling eastbound on highway 160 when he observed a silver Nissan truck fail to stop at the stop sign at the intersection of NN Highway and 160 headed south.

At that time the deputy got behind the vehicle and attempted to conduct a traffic stop by activating his emergency equipment. The truck failed to stop for the deputy. The truck traveled at extremely dangerous high rates of speed eastbound on 126 Highway.

A Missouri Conservation Agent took over the lead in the pursuit at 126 Highway and I-49. The driver of the truck was able to avoid stop sticks laid out by Missouri State Highway Patrol Trooper Arty Torbeck at 1st Ln and 126 hwy, and continued southbound on Southwest 1st Ln.

During the pursuit the suspect led the Conservation Agent, and Deputies of the Barton County Sheriff's Office through the city of Jasper. The pursuit ended when the truck drove down a steep embankment, through a fence, and into a field just west of county road 138 and north of baseline in Jasper County. There was three subjects in the vehicle, two subjects were arrested at the vehicle, but the diver fled on foot into a wooded area and was not located.

At the conclusion of the investigation it was learned the vehicle that was being pursued was reported stolen out of Pittsburg Kansas.

Stolen Vehicle reported in Barton County

On August 17th 2019 the Barton County Sheriffs Office received a complaint of a truck being stolen from the Golden City area. It was reported that the truck was stolen between 4pm yesterday the 16th and 6pm on the 17th. 

The truck is a 2002 white Ford flatbed that has a side tool box, driver side fender damage, and a cracked windshield. If anybody has any information your asked to contact the Barton County Sheriffs Office at 417-682-5541, or your local Law Enforcement Agency.

Updated Obituary - Desirae “Princess” Vance Jones

Desirae “Princess” Vance Jones, 30 of Harrisonville, Missouri went home to be with the Lord August 14, 2019. Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM Tuesday, August 20, 2019 at Crossroads Assembly of God in Harrisonville. 

Visitation will be Monday evening from 6-8 PM also at the church. Burial will follow services in Lee’s Summit Historical Cemetery, Lee’s Summit, Missouri. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Desirae Vance Jones Memorial Fund (please make payable to Destiny Jones), andmessages and memories for the family may be left at www.mullinaxfuneralhome.com. 

Desirae was born August 7, 1989 in Kansas City, Missouri, daughter of Norris E. and Toninetta (Pinales) Vance. 

Desirae loved with all her heart. She devoted her life to the Lord, and her presence and smile could light up any room. She will be forever missed. 

She is survived by Elijiah, Isaiah, Chevy, and Cecelia. Now she will be joined in heaven with her first born, Aaliyah.



Obituary - Marian Sue Avants-Balducci

Marian Sue Avants-Balducci, 62, Harrisonville, Missouri departed this life on Thursday, August 15, 2019 at the Kansas City Hospice House surrounded by love and family.

She is survived by her husband, Jim Balducci of the home; two daughters, Andrea Kenagy and her daughter, Samantha Young, Amy Wood and husband Randy and their children, Ryley, Haely and Caden Wood all of Harrisonville, Missouri; 7 step-grandchildren; 2 step-great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.

Cremation. A Celebration of Life Gathering with dinner served will be 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Saturday, August 24, 2019 at the The Dickey Cottage - The Venue Place, 2400 E. Elm, Harrisonville, Missouri.
