Obituary - Joe Allen Jeans

Joe Allen Jeans, 81, Nevada, MO passed away on Sunday, September 1, 2019 at Moore-Few Care Center in Nevada. Joe was born July 29, 1938 in Perry, OK to Thomas Leslie and Dora E. (Finnell) Jeans.

Joe was raised in Perry, OK and later in Vernon County, MO where he was a member of the last graduating class from Richards High School. Joe owned and operated his own belt buckle company in Denver, CO in the late 60’s and early 70’s and then for 10 years he took care of his mother in Thayer, KS until her passing. Joe also worked for Coastal Convenience Store’s as store manager in Las Vegas, NV and Thayer for a number of years until his retirement. He has resided in the Nevada area since 2005.

Joe is survived by several nieces and nephews including Van Lechman, Nevada, and Wayne Jeans, Nevada, who have cared for Joe the past several years. He is preceded in death by three brothers, Delbert Jeans, J.T. Jeans, Lawrence Jeans; and one sister, Donna Lechman.

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, September 6, 2019 at Grace Hill Cemetery in Perry, OK. Friends may call now and until the hour of service at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada.


Obituary - John Olen Dedrick

John Olen Dedrick, 81, Nevada, MO passed away at Barone Alzheimer’s Care Center in Nevada. John was taken to his heavenly home on Saturday, August 31, 2019. He was born on April 7, 1938 in Princeton, IN. John married his sweetheart on December 22, 1968 and they spent nearly 41 wonderful years together. John and Linda were blessed with two sons, Johnny Dedrick and Michael Dedrick.

John attended school at Warrensburg, MO. He served in the United States Navy and later worked over 20 years for Ash Grove Aggregates in Montevallo, MO. John enjoyed spending time at the lake with family and friends. He loved fishing, hunting and having fish frys.

Survivors include a sister, Patty Morse of Fort Worth, TX; two sons, John Dedrick and his wife Joanne of Nevada, MO, and Michael Dedrick and his wife Cherie of Nevada, MO; two daughters, Debbie Arnold of Concordia, MO, and Connie Everts of Lexington, KY. Grandchildren include Gaige Dedrick, Lindsey Turner, Brandon Turner, Derrick Turner, Tiffany Everts, and Allan Arnold; one great grandson, Brex Turner. He was preceded in death by his parents, Pete Oliver Dedrick and Viola Emma Marshall; and his wife Linda Louise (Pennington).

A private family committal will be held at Olive Branch Cemetery, Milo, MO.


Phone Scam - Calls about social security hitting the area

The Sheriff's Office in Bates and Vernon County has received multiple reports of phone calls where the person is claiming to be from the Social Security Administration. They are claiming that benefits have been suspended and prompt you to "fix" the issue over the phone. 

This is a scam. Please contact someone with the Social Security Administration if you have questions about your account, but do not respond to anyone who calls and wants you to give them information about your account over the phone.

Semi truck rollover in Cass County

TRAFFIC ALERT:
The Harrisonville Police Department is on the scene of a motor vehicle crash involving a semi-truck on Missouri 7 Highway about a quarter of a mile south of Missouri EE Highway. 

Traffic can still pass while we are waiting on a tow truck to arrive to the scene. 

Just a heads up, when the tow truck does arrive, Missouri 7 Highway in this area will be closed. Please use caution when traveling in this area.



Power outage in Cass County

Osage Valley Electric Crews have located the issue causing an outage for members southwest of Peculiar. 

Repairs are being made and power should be restored shortly.

Hot Summer Conditions Not Over Yet


There are some scattered light showers across northern Missouri this morning however, these should dissipate by mid-morning. As we get into this afternoon, Summer will show us it is not quite done with us just yet! 

Highs today will be in the upper 80s to lower 90s with heat index values in the lower 90s to near 100 degrees. Tonight a cold front will move through the area bringing relief but will also bring the chance for thunderstorms. 

A few of these storms could be strong with winds up to 50 mph and small hail up to the size of a quarter.


Pedestrian struck by vehicle in Bates County

On 9/2/19 around 10:02pm the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Bates County along with Bates County Sheriff's Deputies and Bates County EMS responded to a pedestrian that was struck by a vehicle in the northbound lanes of I-49 just south of Missouri 52 East Highway south of Butler.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2013 Kia was parked on the right shoulder of the roadway and a pedestrian was outside of the vehicle. 

The 2012 Hyundai driven by 38 year old Verginia R. Dayondon of Lamar, Missouri traveled off the right side of the roadway and stuck the Kia and the pedestrian before traveling off the right side of the roadway and through a ditch.

The pedestrian 45 year old Ryan M. Henderson of North Kansas City, Missouri sustained serious injuries in this accident and he was transported to Bates County Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Both vehicles received extensive damages and both were towed from the scene by Douty's Tow of Butler.
