Archie man injured in Cass County Crash

On 10/2/19 around 12:20pm the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Cass County along with Cass County Sheriff's Deputies and Harrisonville Police Officers responded to a two vehicle accident in the southbound lanes of I-49 around mile marker 158.2.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 1998 Ford F-150 driven by 71 year old Harley L. Dunsworth of Archie, Missouri struck the rear of the 2015 Ford F-150 driven by 33 year old Jessica A. Huron of Joplin, Missouri as it was slowing from a crash ahead.

Harley L. Dunsworth sustained minor injuries in this accident and he was transported by Harrisonville Fire to Belton Regional Medical Center for treatment.

Mr. Dunsworth's truck was towed from the scene of this crash by Miller Tow of Harrisonville, Missouri.

Update: Two vehicle accident on 69 Highway this morning

On 10/2/19 around 6:39am the Kansas State Highway Patrol responded to a two vehicle accident on US-69 Highway around two miles north of K-52 east (Amoret Exit).

The Kansas State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2004 Pontiac Montana van driven by 46 year old Kristi Leigh Huggins of Osawatomie, Kansas was southbound on US-69 Highway when she crossed the grass median and began traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of traffic. The van struck a northbound 2010 Hyundai Sonata driven by 31 year old Jeffery W. Gourd of Overland Park, Kansas.

Kristi Leigh Huggins sustained serious injuries in this accident and she was transported to Overland Park Regional Medical Center for treatment.

Jeffery W. Gourd sustained minor injuries in this accident and he was transported to Miami County Medical Center for treatment.

Both vehicles were totaled and towed from the scene of the accident by Saker Towing.

Obituary - Delbert Volkman

Delbert Volkman, 84, Nevada, MO passed away on Tuesday, October 1, 2019 at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin, MO following a brief illness. Delbert was born February 10, 1935 in Iowa City, IA to August and Grace (Purtle) Volkman. On September 8, 1952 he was united in marriage to Virginia Louise Wallace in Huntsville, AR and she preceded him in death on July 5, 2009.

Delbert grew up in Iowa and later came with his family to Missouri where he attended school in Jasper. Following high school Delbert served in the United States Army for two years. Most of his adult life he lived in Nevada working for the Nevada Police Department, and the Vernon County Sheriff’s Department. He later drove a truck for Cartwright Van Lines until his retirement. Delbert loved fishing, wood working, gardening, and enjoyed being around people.

He is survived by four children, Miki Pace (Jim), Omaha, NE, Lynn Blank (Percy), Gonzales, LA, Dottie Smith (Terry), Nevada, Kenny Volkman (Jessie), Nevada; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; four brothers, Donald Volkman (Linda), Lamar, Robert Volkman, Lockwood, Billy Volkman, Iowa, Earl Volkman (Inez), Illinois; one sister, Loretta Spilger, Iowa; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, two brothers, and one infant daughter, Tina Volkman.

Private committal services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 5, 2019 at Dunnegan Grove Cemetery in Nevada with Mark Mitchell officiating. Services are under the direction of Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada.

Timothy Louis Silver, age 50 of Nevada, Missouri died Saturday, September 21, 2019 in Nevada. He was born February 18, 1969 to Kenneth and Thelma Kendrick Silver in Butler, Missouri.

Tim is survived by his parents, Kenneth and Thelma Silver of Nevada, Missouri; two sons, Aryon and Dalton; one daughter, Faith Silver or Archie, Missouri; two stepsons, Devon Cumpton and Matt Keek; two stepdaughters, Ashley and Sarah; uncles, aunts and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Joanna Silver; stepson, Michael Keck; and one sister, Tammy Vail.

Henry County Sheriff's Office looking for subject who fled on foot in Windsor

On October 2, 2019 just after midnight, Deputy Osman stopped a vehicle on North Main Street in Windsor, Missouri. The driver, identified as Casey Dewayne Slaughter, age 35 of Osceola, Missouri fled from the scene and was not apprehended.

Deputy Oaks, Cpl. Sebree and Deputy Young assisted in the search for Slaughter. Slaughter is wanted by several jurisdictions for multiple gas drive off's in Pettis County, Johnson County, Cass County, Jackson County and Henry County in Windsor and Urich. He has multiple warrants for his arrest out of St Clair, Cass and Clinton.

From today’s events, Slaughter faces new charges of felony resisting arrest by flight, possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, and driving while revoked.

Former Butler man killed while riding bike in Minnesota

A 30-year-old bicyclist died when he was struck by an SUV Tuesday morning north of Waseca, Minnesota authorities said.

Anthony Michael Hodges, of Waseca, Minnesota formerly of Butler, Missouri was riding a bicycle on the shoulder of Highway 13 at 6:40 a.m. when the crash happened, the Minnesota State Patrol said.


Cynthia Jo Newman, 23, of Waseca, was driving a northbound 2000 Oldsmobile Bravada when she struck Mr. Hodges bicycle. 

The pavement was wet at the time and no alcohol was involved, the report said. Mr. Hodges was not wearing a helmet.
