Nevada Man Claims $200,000 Scratchers Top Prize



Tristan McIntosh of Nevada claimed a top prize of $200,000 on a Missouri Lottery “The 12 Days of Christmas,” holiday-themed Scratchers ticket less than two weeks after they were released. McIntosh purchased the winning ticket at Ricketts Southside, 18960 E. BB Highway, in Nevada.

Introduced on Oct. 14, "The 12 Days of Christmas" is a $10 Scratchers ticket with over $11.2 million in remaining prizes, including another top prize of $200,000 and four prizes of $20,000. 

Remaining prize amounts for all Scratchers games can be found at MOLottery.com and on the official Missouri Lottery app.

In the most recent fiscal year, players in Vernon County won more than $2.7 million in Missouri Lottery prizes. 

Retailers received more than $283,000 in commissions and bonuses, and an additional $558,000 went to education programs in the county.

Obituary - Mary Elizabeth (Payne) Ogle

Mary Elizabeth Ogle, 90, Nevada, MO passed from this life on Thursday, October 31, 2019 at her home surrounded by her family. Mary was born May 7, 1929 in Green City, MO to Carl “Bud” and Suzie (Crouse) Payne. She married Nile Lee Ogle on March 17, 1949 in Kirksville, MO and he preceded her in death on July 10, 2016.

Mary was a homemaker. She and her husband were a team – his job was to be the provider and hers was to run a home efficiently. Mary rarely sat down, she was always busy with household chores and taking care of the children. When she was younger, she enjoyed horseback riding, embroidery, gardening, teaching Sunday School, and working in the church nursery. Later in life Mary joined the All Saints Episcopal Church in Nevada. She dearly loved her church family and missed going when she became too ill to attend.

Mary is survived by her children, Phillip Ogle, Cheryl (Ogle) Martin, Lee Ogle, Mark Ogle (Debbie); grandchildren, Justin Pryor (Nicki), Ashely Melech (J.D.), Jessica Stone (Chris), Steffan Lee Ogle, Lara Ogle, Aaron Ogle, and Duncan Ogle; great-grandchildren, Hannah Pryor, Addyson Pryor, Brinley Melech, Kaylie Melech, and Conner Wade Stone; sister, Patsy Harlan; brother, Ronald Lafavor and sister-in-law, Edna Faye Lafavor, her dearly loved sister-in-law, Geraldine Bankus Ogle; son-in-law, Roy Dale Norman, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother, Paul Payne, and sister, Billie Jo Black.

A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 8, 2019 at the All Saints Episcopal Church in Nevada with Father Jim Lile officiating. Music will be under the direction of Darrell Jarman. Private inurnment will be in Newton Burial Park in Nevada.

Obituary - Manuel Sanchez

Manuel Sanchez, age 47, of Belton, Missouri died Wednesday, October 30, 2019 peacefully at home surrounded by his wife and children.

Manuel, the son of Vicente Sanchez and Gloria Aguilar, was born January 30, 1972 in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico. He received his education from Manuel Aguilar Saenz School in Mexico. In 1998, Manuel moved to Emporia, Kansas for an employment opportunity with IBP Manufacturing. He later met his wife while working at Emporia State University. Manuel and Michelle Zillmann were married on April 28, 2001 at Grace United Methodist Church in Emporia, Kansas. They shared 19 years together. Manuel and Michelle Sanchez lived in Emporia, Kansas for many years before relocating to the Kansas City area.

Manuel spent his life working as a cook in nursing and retirement homes, educational facilities, and restaurants. He took pride in his ability to care for people with the food he made. Manuel was a fan of many sports. He was a devoted Dallas Cowboys’ fan. Manuel was able to fulfill his lifelong dream of visiting the Dallas Cowboys’ AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas when the family took a Spring Break trip in March, 2019. He also enjoyed watching the Los Angeles Dodgers play baseball. Because of his love of music, he spent many hours listening and singing to his favorite Mexican artists. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time at home with his family. He deeply loved his wife and children, and was a proud father.

Manuel is survived by his wife, Michelle; four daughters: Daniela Michelle, Adriana Isabel, Christina Gabriela, and Anabel Paloma Sanchez of the home; one son: Manuel Alejandro Sanchez of the home; his mother, Gloria Aguilar, of El Paso, Texas; his sister, Gloria Sanchez of El Paso, Texas; uncles, aunts, and many cousins of El Paso, TX, Las Cruces, New Mexico, and Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Vicente Sanchez and his nephew, Angel Montes.

Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life service will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, November 5, 2019 at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Raymore, Missouri. There will be no visitation. The family will greet friends following the memorial service. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 377, Raymore, MO 64083 to help with funeral expenses and providing for the children.


Governor appoints replacement for James K. Journey

JEFFERSON CITY — Today, Governor Mike Parson appointed M. Brandon Baker as Circuit Judge for the 27th Judicial Circuit. He will fill the Circuit Judge vacancy created by the retirement of the Honorable James K. Journey.

Mr. Baker, of Lowry City, is an attorney with Baker Law Firm, LLC. He holds a Bachelor of Liberal Arts and a Master of Arts in History from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. Mr. Baker also holds a Juris Doctorate from Western Michigan University's Cooley Law School in Lansing, Michigan.



Back to jail for recently released inmate

On 11/01/2019 at 1043 hours, Officers responded to the Casey's at 1901 W. Mechanic Street for a stolen auto report. During the course of the investigation, Officers determined that the vehicle was stolen by Woodrow J. Metcalf of Blue Eye, Missouri. Woodrow had just been released from the Cass County Jail on a signature bond for the felony theft of a firearm. The vehicle was located by the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Jasper County. After a brief pursuit the suspect was apprehended and is being held pending charges in Jasper County and Harrisonville.

Urich woman injured in Henry County Rollover Crash

On 11/1/19 around 7:00am the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Henry County along with Henry County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a one vehicle accident on Missouri 7 Highway just before CR 701 in rural Henry County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2001 Ford driven by 63 year old Pamela S. Charles of Urich, Missouri traveled off the roadway and down a embankment and struck the ground, the vehicle then overturned into some trees before coming to rest.

Pamela S. Charles sustained minor injuries in this accident and she was transported by ambulance to Golden Valley Memorial Hospital in Clinton for treatment.

The vehicle was totaled and towed from the scene of the accident by Golden Valley Tow.


Update: 10 car pile up yesterday near Archie

On 10/31/19 around 5:40am the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Cass County along with several other emergency personnel responded to a 10 vehicle accident near the Archie Exit on I-49.
