Two vehicle crash in Cass County

On 11/5/19 around 7:45pm the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Cass County along with Cass County Sheriff's Deputies and the Cass County Fire Protection District responded to a two vehicle accident at northbound I-49 near mile marker 162.2 in rural Cass County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2007 Dodge Ram driven by 48 year old Lyle S. Jennings of Butler, Missouri was overtaking and attempting to pass the 1999 Peterbilt driven by 61 year old Theodore J. Hawkins of Wichita, Kansas when the left front corner of the Peterbilt collided with the right rear of the Dodge truck.


The Dodge truck slid off the right side of the roadway and struck a concrete bridge.

Mr. Hawkins along with a passenger in his vehicle 34 year old Nicolette L. Thompson of Belton, Missouri both sustained moderate injuries in this accident and both were transported to St. Lukes Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri for treatment.

The Dodge Ram was totaled and towed from the scene of the crash by J's Southland Tow.

Obituary - Esther Jeffries Ensley

Esther Jeffries Ensley, 82, Harrisonville, MO, passed away Sunday, November 3, 2019 at Cass Regional Medical Center in Harrisonville. Celebration of Life will be held from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Friday, November 8, 2019 at the Everett Community Church in Archie, MO.




Esther was born March 29, 1937 in Steelville, MO, a daughter of James E. and Mabel J. (Vance) Coffman. She had lived in Kansas City, KS, moving to Cass County in 1975. She was a member of the Everett Community Church in Archie.




Esther found joy in spending time with her family and lifelong friends. She loved making road trips back to Steelville to see her family and in her free time liked reading, puzzles, playing cards and going to garage sales.




Ester was generous to a fault and cared about everyone without judgment and was a spitfire with a wicked sense of humor. Her smile could light up the room and her laughter was contagious. She made friends everywhere she went. Esther had worked at Russell Stover Candy doing seasonal work and made friends who referred to themselves as the “Stover Girls”. They remained friends for over fifty years. She was a joy to all who knew her.




Esther was preceded in death by her parents, her two husbands, Robert Jeffries and Hubert “Hoot” Ensley, three sisters and three brothers. She is survived by four sons, Robert Jeffries, Jr., Archie, MO; James Jeffries, Harrisonville, MO; Morris Jeffries, Garden City, MO; and Norman Jeffries, Pleasant Hill, MO; one brother, Bill Coffman, Steelville, MO; and numerous dearly loved grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Butler man arrested on Burglary and Stealing Charges

Owen J. Raymond 
On 11/4/19 around 6:40pm the Butler Police Department arrested 39 year old Owen J. Raymond of Butler, Missouri.

Mr. Raymond was arrested for 1.) Burglary- 2nd Degree 2.) Stealing.

He was booked into the Bates County Jail and is currently being held on a $20,000 cash/surety bond.

Obituary - James "Jim" Lindley

James "Jim" Lindley, 76, of Harrisonville, Missouri died Tuesday, November 5, 2019 at Research Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri.

Congratulations to Miami 5th grader, Exel Velez. He auditioned for and was selected to the Missouri Music Educators Association 4/5th grade State Children’s Choir.

Exel will perform in concert in January at the Music Educators convention at Tan-Tar-A.

Verna June Kooker, age 67 of Butler, Missouri died Tuesday, November 5, 2019 at Medicaoldge of Butler. She was born October 18, 1952 to Walter Samuel Sr. and Mildred Marie Herman Fuller in Butler.

Verna is survived by one son, James Chandler Jr. and wife Melissa of Foster, Missouri; two daughters, Megan Bagby and husband Scott of Adrian, Missouri and Jill Ross and husband Adam of Louisburg, Kansas; two brothers, Sam Fuller Jr. and wife Beverly and Joe Fuller and wife Peggy, all of Butler, Missouri; two sisters, Carol Ireland and husband Jack of Nixa, Missouri and Karen Russell and husband Dwain of Butler, Missouri; one half-sister, Betty Fuqua; and one sister-in-law, Doris Fuller of Butler, Missouri. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Lynn Fuller; and one helf-sister, Reta Boyce.


Halloween theft: Candy and smokes taken in Amsterdam

On November 1st Deputies responded to Leona's Mini Mart in Amsterdam, MO for a report of a burglary in progress. Upon their arrival they observed an entry door open with the window broken out of it. The Deputies cleared the store finding no one inside it. The Deputies observed a rack of cigarettes behind the register that was pulled down. Several boxes of candies in front of the register had also been disturbed. The Deputies found tire tracks behind the building and several bags of candy laying on the ground.
