Ladies Night well attended


A big turnout for the annual Ladies Night Out in Butler this evening as stores stayed open late while offering some great holiday deals. The Butler Chamber of Commerce would like to thank everyone who came out- and Happy Thanksgiving!





Structure fire in Amsterdam

Amsterdam fire department, along with Amoret and Adrian are currently on the scene of a garage/shed fire just north of Main Street on Y Highway. No injuries reported; more info to be posted as it becomes available.

Butler JH Boys Basketball team wins Sherwood Tournament

Congratulations to the JH Butler Bears Boys Basketball team on winning 1st place in the Sherwood basketball tournament! Way to go boys!

Obituary - Dean David Valentine

Dean David Valentine, 82, Nevada, MO passed away on Sunday, November 24, 2019 at Moore-Few Care Center in Nevada.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 30, 2019 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Nevada with Father Peter Savidge officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Nevada. Rosary will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Friday evening, November 29, 2019 with visitation following from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada.

Those who wish may contribute in Dean’s memory to St. Mary’s Catholic Church or charity of choice c/o Ferry Funeral Home.

Obituary - Thomas Charles Gordon

Thomas Charles Gordon, 59, Moundville, MO passed away on Sunday, November 24, 2019. Tommy was born October 25, 1960 in Nevada, MO to Charles R. (Bob) and Ruth E. (McFarland) Gordon. He married Karen Lee Domer on June 25, 1999 in Eureka Springs, AR and she survives of the home.

Tommy grew up in Moundville and graduated from Bronaugh High School Class of 1978. He attended Missouri Southern State College and graduated with a degree in Physical Education. Tommy worked several years as a Terminal Manager for a packaging company and later worked for Lathrop Construction from 2004 until 2017. Throughout his life he raised cattle and for the past two years was self-employed. Tommy was an avid sportsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing, riding motorcycles, basketball and softball. He deeply loved and was loved by the countless children in his life. Tommy was always available for his family, knew no stranger, and was willing to help anyone at any time.

In addition to his wife Karen, he is survived by one son, McCade Thomas Gordon, Columbia, MO; his mother, Ruth Gordon, Moundville, MO; brother, Philip Gordon and his wife Dalena, El Dorado Springs, MO; two sisters, Karen Ann Gordon, Springfield, MO, and Nancy Robertson and her husband Randy, Richards, MO; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins also survive. He was preceded in death by his father.

The family will receive friends from 10-11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 27, 2019 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada. Graveside services will follow at 11:30 a.m. at Moore Cemetery in Nevada with Pastor Adam Gordon officiating.

Those who wish may contribute in Tommy’s memory to a Scholarship Fund for his son, McCade Gordon c/o Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.

Attention farmers: PAT license reminder

Soon, many farmers, ranchers, and other agri producers will be receiving a reminder notice in the mail their Private Pesticide Applicator License will be expiring. There will be many opportunities across the region to renew your PAT license, including Butler on February 27.
