Obituary - Norman Howard Cox

Norman Howard Cox age 84 of Garden City, Missouri departed this life Friday, November 29, 2019 at Research Medical Center, Kansas City, Missouri.

Norman is survived by his cousins.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 4, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at the Dickey Funeral Home, Garden City, Missouri. Burial will be in the Garden City Cemetery, Garden City, Missouri.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, December 3, 2019 from 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

The family suggest that memorial contributions may be made to Cassco Area workshop and may be sent in care of Dickey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 432, Harrisonville, Missouri 64701.


Harrisonville man seriously injured in Cass County Crash

On 12/2/19 around 3:40pm the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Cass County along with Cass County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a two vehicle accident in the southbound Missouri 7 Highway at Route TT in rural Cass County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2002 Buick driven by 90 year old William Stephens of Harrisonville, Missouri was attempting to cross southbound Missouri 7 Highway and failed to yield and struck the 2018 Dodge Ram driven by 39 year old Emily D. Yoast of Springfield, Missouri in the passenger side door.

Mr. Stephens sustained serious injuries in this accident and he was transported by ambulance to Research Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri for treatment.

Both vehicles were totaled and towed from the scene of the accident by J's Southland Tow.

Obituary - Kenneth Gary Dean

Kenneth Gary Dean, 71, Nevada, MO passed away on Sunday, December 1, 2019 at his home in Nevada. Kenny was born July 26, 1948 in Del Rio, TX to Booth G. and Geraldine Dean.

Kenny was a star athlete in high school, excelling in football and swimming. He served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War, and later graduated from MSSU in Joplin with an Engineering Degree. He worked at Fram in Nevada until its closing and then later worked at Hino Motors in Memphis, TN. Kenny was a tournament pool player and was known throughout the Midwest for his skills. In addition to playing pool he was an avid Kansas City Chief’s fan and a beloved member of the Elks Lodge in Nevada.

Survivors include one son, Jeffrey M. Dean, Fayetteville, AR; and many special friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Dennis, and his sweetheart companion, Tammy Larimore.

Memorial and Elk services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 5, 2019 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada. Friends may call now and until the hour of service at Ferry Funeral Home.

Obituary - Mary Alice Wilson

Mary Alice Wilson, 86, passed away on Saturday, November 30, 2019 at Moore-Few Care Center in Nevada. Mary was born December 2, 1932 in Nevada, MO to Stephen B. and Grace M. (Brewer) Karhoff. She was united in marriage to Stanley Wilson in Las Vegas, Nevada in March 3, 1980 and he preceded her in death on November 14, 2005.

Mary grew up in Sheldon and graduated from Sheldon High School with the Class of 1951. She worked in healthcare her whole life, working at Nevada City Hospital for more than ten years, and at Broadllawns Medical Center in Des Moines, IA for a number of years until retiring. Mary was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church Alter Society, past president of Nevada Eagles #3770, and a past member of Sheldon American Legion. She enjoyed bowling, golf, playing Poker, and was also an avid Kansas City Chief’s fan.

She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, including five special nieces, Elaine Letze (Terry), Pleasant Hill, IA, Alice Bunker (Julie Belling), Kansas City, MO, Martha Byram (David), Sheldon, MO, Mary Buckner (Raymond), Sheldon, MO, Linda Conrad, Nevada; two sisters-in-law, Johnetta Rushlow, Sheldon, and Sheila Ferris, Nevada, MO. She was preceded in death by ten sisters and two brothers, including her twin sister, Margaret Ann Bunker.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 5, 2019 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Nevada with Father Peter Savidge officiating. Interment will follow in Olive Branch Cemetery in Milo, MO. Rosary will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, December 4, 2019 with visitation following from 6-7:00 p.m. at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada.

Memorials are suggested in her memory to the St. Mary’s Catholic Church Building Fund c/o Ferry Funeral Home.

Major Case Squad called in to look for missing Butler woman

On 12/2/19, at around 11am, the Bates County Sheriffs Office activated the Southwest Major Case Squad to assist in locating a missing person. 

The missing person is Nicole Shalee Mallatt. Nicole was last seen or heard from on November 26,2019.

Members from Lamar Pd, NEVADA Pd, Vernon County Sheriffs Office, Cedar County Sheriffs Office, Butler Police Department and Bates County Sheriffs Office have set up a command center at the Sheriffs Office training building.

The Sheriff’s Office has also requested assistance from the Cass County Disaster Emergency Response Team, Digital Investigations, the UAV Unit and the Bates County Sheriffs Posse to assist with searching the ground and waterways around the residence where Mallatt was last known to be.

Murder at city lake: McCoy to appear in court this month

Murder suspect Samantha McCoy will appear before a judge on December 16th at 11 am for a criminal setting, which usually equates to setting of a trial date.

McCoy, who is being held at the Bates County jail, is accused of murdering her mother Cynthia McCoy at the Butler city lake on May 1st of this year.
