Obituary - Alice Boone

Alice Boone, 100 of Drexel, Missouri passed away Saturday, December 21, 2019 at her home in Drexel. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Friday, December 27, 2019 at Mullinax Funeral Home, Drexel Chapel (660-679-0009). 

A visitation will be held from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm Friday prior to the service, also at the funeral home. Cremation to follow services with inurnment in Sharon Cemetery, Drexel, Missouri. Memorial contributions are suggested to Drexel United Methodist Church. Messages of condolence may be left for the family at www.mullinaxfuneralhome.com

Obituary - Pauline Beatrice Ledesma

Pauline Ledesma, age 58, of Walker, Mo passed away unexpectedly from this life at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, December 19, 2019 at her home. She was born April 7th, 1961 in Los Angeles, California, the daughter of Carmen Sanchez and Paul Peck. She graduated from Apple Valley High School in Los Angeles, California in 1979. She then relocated to Mound City Ks and the Fort Scott Ks area.

Pauline worked at Peerless in Fort Scott, Ks. She was a dedicated and hard worker and loved her job and her work family. She also worked at Thorco Industries in Butler, Mo from 1999-2006. While working in Thorco Industries in October of 1999 Pauline completed and received certification in ARC Basic Welding and in 2003 she accepted a lead position and remained in that position until 2006.

She was a devoted sister, aunt, and friend who enjoyed spending time with members of her adopted family and close friends. She also enjoyed helping others, going to the Downstream Casino, Kansas Crossing Casino, working on the farm, gardening, and had a love for fishing.

Survivors include her adopted family, Troy and Donna Wood of Walker, Mo.; Kelsey Wood of Walker, Mo; two nieces Avery and Addison and one nephew Hunter.

Pauline was preceded in death by her parents, Carmen Sanchez and Paul Peck and by her Aunt who raised her as Fillipi Ledesma.

A Memorial Service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday December 28, 2019, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, MO.


Structure Fire In Nevada

At 3:55am the Nevada Fire Department responded to report of smoke coming from roof of the old Richardson Apartment building. 

All occupants made it out safe. Fire was found in a vacant upstairs apartment. 

Nevada Fire Department and the Missouri State Fire Marshal assisted with investigation.

Scam Alert in Vernon County

The Vernon County Sheriffs Office has received multiple reports from citizens stating they have received text messages stating they have won a prize and will receive $1,000 from Walmart to their cell phone. 

This is a scam, please do not follow the instructions. If you have questions about a company or organization, please call that company directly and not through the email or text that it was received on.

Ballard student of the month announced


The Ballard R-II School District is pleased to be working in conjunction with the Adrian Optimist Club to honor a Student of the Month for the 2019-2020 school year. 
 Student of the Month is selected by the staff of the Ballard R-II School District using the following criteria: attendance, attitude towards others and school, behavior, leadership, and improvement in or maintenance of good grades. 

The Student of the Month for November is Senior Maecy Claiborne, daughter of Rusty and Sandra Claiborne. Ag Teacher Ms. Strodtman states, “Maecy always has a positive attitude and is a great role model.”  Technology teacher, Cheryl Murchie states, “Maecy is always willing to help her classmates and teachers.  She works hard to achieve the goals she has set for herself. She has a great personality that shows in her actions with everyone around her.”  

For Maecy’s hard work in school, she is receiving a certificate of recognition from the Adrian Optimist Club and $20.00 in Adrian Chamber of Commerce “Chamber Bucks'”  Pictured: Principal Dustin Bridges, Maecy Claiborne, Optimist member Alvin Griffin.

Drug Arrest In Cedar County


An investigation by the Cedar County Sheriff's Office has resulted in the arrest of Amy R. Totsch (Inman) of Stockton. She has been charged with 2 counts of Felony Possession of controlled substance.

As a result of the investigation approximately 1/4 ounce of methamphetamine, heroine and items of illegal drug paraphernalia were seized by the Sheriff's Office.

Involved in the investigation and arrest were Sgt. Clay Jeffries, Deputy Garrett Lukenbill, Deputy Tabitha Johnson and Chief Deputy Jason Johnson.

Sheriff James McCrary commends these Officers for a job well done and their commitment to serving and protecting the citizens of Cedar County.

It should be remembered that a charge is merely an accusation and all suspect are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.






Butler woman injured in rollover accident in rural Bates County

On 12/19/19 around 12:10pm the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Bates County along with Bates County Sheriff's Deputies, Bates County EMS and Butler Fire Department responded to a one vehicle accident on N Highway just southeast of CR 4556 in rural Bates County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2010 Kia drive by 74 year old Linda J. Smith of Butler, Missouri failed to negotiate a curve and traveled off the left side of the roadway and overturned.

Linda J. Smith sustained moderate injuries in this accident and she was transported by Bates County EMS to Research Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri for treatment.

The vehicle was totaled and towed from the scene of the accident by Douty's Tow of Butler.
