Update: Fire at Golden Valley Tractor In Clinton

01/05/2020: At 4:01am yesterday morning, the Clinton Fire Department received an alarm for a possible structure fire at Golden Valley Tractor, 1403 North Second Street. The on duty crew of 4 personnel responded in two apparatus, the departments aerial platform (Ladder 1) and Rescue truck (Rescue 10). Fire crews arrived on scene to find heavy smoke and fire involvement in the service area of the building. At the time of arrival, the fire had already reached a point to which interior fire suppression efforts were not possible. A second alarm for additional personnel to respond was immediately requested and a third apparatus (Engine 3) responded to the scene to assist in fire suppression operations.

Due to the size of the fire and the need for more personnel, a request was made for assistance from the Urich Fire Department for a pumper with personnel and Warrensburg Fire Department for an aerial platform with personnel. A unified command was established with Interim Clinton Fire Chief Mark Manuel assuming Incident Command. At approximately 6:30am, Chief Manuel requested assistance from the Missouri State Fire Marshals Office to assist in investigating the fire cause. An investigator responded to the scene and was assisted in an investigation by Clinton Fire Investigators. A joint investigation is still underway at the time of this press release.

Fire crews were on scene for approximately 15 hours. Assisting the Clinton Fire Department were the following agencies: Clinton Police Department, Golden Valley Hospital Ambulance, Urich Fire, Warrensburg Fire, Evergy, Empire Gas, and Alliance (Henry County Water Co).

We would like to express our humble appreciation to McDonalds for providing free meals for firefighters and White Oak Gas Station for providing coffee and drinks.

She was last seen wearing a dark colored hooded sweatshirt, sweatpants, and red vans. She was last seen in Linn Valley 1/05/2020.

Thoughts and Prayers for the West Peculiar Fire Department

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Chuck McCormick and the West Peculiar Fire District community.

30 year old McCormick lost his life Sunday morning battling a house fire in Peculiar, believed to have been caused by a dryer.

He leaves behind a wife and three sons, ages 4, 5 and 7-years-old.

St. Clair County Sheriff's Office seeking public assistance

The St. Clair County Sheriff's Office needs your help to identify these two individuals. Sunday morning, 1-5-2020, these two stole the lottery tickets from the BP Convenience Store in Lowry City. 

It is believed they left the store on foot.

Obituary - Christopher Michael Koontz

Chris Koontz was the beloved son of Ladena Bough, brother to Heather Johannsen, and wonderful uncle to Harley Johannsen, Dillion Bagby and Wyatt Thayer. He was a companion and friend to stepfather, Bill Dickey, Dennis Joseph, and his paternal aunt, Karen Stotler, a woman who was there for him and stood up for him during his life.

If you were classified as Chris’ friend, you never stayed that way for long. His friends all became family becoming brothers and sisters to Chris and children to his Momma. Chris brought more than 70 of them home to live with us when they needed a home. There are too many of them to name here, but we want to acknowledge Curtis Taylor (Chris’ football, baseball and fishing friend); Charmaine Zumalt and her children, the wonderful woman Chris lived with for years and maintained contact with to this day; DJ Thayer and Jimmy Bonne. They will always be family to Chris’ Momma and Heather.

Chris worked hard his entire life and advanced quickly wherever he was employed. In addition, Chris loved his sports and was a die-hard Chiefs and Royals fan. Chris always made it a point to notify his friends when they were playing, attended all the celebrations or either team, and never missed a game if he could avoid it. He also liked to go fishing when given the opportunity. One of the last visits with his Momma involved a fantastic day of fishing at the pond and shooting guns in the country. Chris had a wicked and dry sense of humor, making those in his company laugh until they cried. Chris always made it a point to call his Momma for her birthday, Mother’s Day and Father’s Day, and never failed to ask his Momma to dance with him. He always remembered those in his life.

Chris was brutally honest with people. Consequently, since this is Chris’ obituary, we would be negligent if we failed to acknowledge the fact that Chris used to have a ‘father’, Tom Koontz. Unfortunately for Tom, he chose to exit Chris’ life during a rough time. You see, Chris had the misfortune to see 33 of his friends die or be killed during his junior and senior years at Ruskin High School, resulting in Chris losing his way for a while in his grief. Tom, however, chose to ignore Chris, told him he was not welcome at his grandmother’s funeral, accused him of things that Chris would have never thought of doing to anyone, and condemned Chris because of mistakes from thirty years ago. We extend our sympathy to you for missing out on knowing an amazing man, but Chris told you himself that his Momma was the only father.

Chris is survived by his Momma, Ladena Bough, and Bill Dickey; his sister, Heather Johannsen and Dennis Joseph; nieces and nephew, Harley Johannsen, Dillion Bagby, and Wyatt Thayer; paternal aunt, Karen Stotler; cousin, Cara Stotler Kitch; maternal uncle Randy Bough and wife Kim; along with a host of aunts, stepbrothers, a stepsister, and cousins on the Dickey side of the family. We acknowledge Tommy Koontz; Jack Koontz (paternal grandfather); Angela McMahon (paternal cousin); Norma Grace Bough (maternal grandmother); Kathy McGinty (maternal aunt) and husband Dennis; and cousins, Jimmy, Sarah, Jamie and their families. You missed knowing an amazing man.

The family requests your presence at Chris’ Celebration of Life at Cullen Funeral Home, 612 West Foxwood Drive, Raymore MO, on January 11, 2020, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. As a further request, Chris’ Momma asks that those who knew Chris write out some of your favorite memories of your times with Chris so that she can make a remembrance book of his life. Garden City man arrested in Bates County

On 1/5/19 around 1:57am the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Bates County arrested 31 year old Sean M. Thompson of Garden City, Missouri.

Mr. Thompson was arrested for 1.) Driving While Intoxicated 2.)Speeding.

He was booked into the Bates County Jail in Butler and placed on a 12 hour detox hold.
