Obituary - Ramona Maxine (Long) Harden

Ramona Maxine Harden, 82 of Nevada, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 7, 2020 at the Girard Medical Center in Girard, KS. Ramona was born on April 10, 1937 in Nevada to Chester P. and Sadie M. (Bradley) Long. On November 16, 1956 she was married to Darrell Harden and he preceded her in death on May 14, 2018. Ramona grew up in Nevada and graduated from Nevada High School with the class of 1955. She was a homemaker who loved her family dearly. 

Ramona had a love for the outdoors, was a Kansas City Royals Fan, and most of all loved being with her family. She enjoyed listening to gospel music and was a long-time member of the Community Christian Church in Nevada. In her later years she had also attended the First Baptist Church in Nevada.

Survivors include her daughter, Debbie Savant of Nevada, her son, Chester Harden of Joplin, granddaughter, Chrissy Savant of Nevada, several great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren, one sister, Sherrie Praiswater of Nevada, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband Darrell she was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 10, 2020 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada with Pastor Dennis Engelbrecht officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Vernon Cemetery near Walker, MO. The family will receive friends from 7:30 -8:30 pm on Thursday evening at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada.

Police seeking subject in Adrian area

Subject Richard J Perkins Sr ran on foot from deputies in the Adrian area. Subject has active warrants, do not approach, call 660-679-3232 if seen. 

Perkins is wearing jean jacket and a red hoodie.

Obituary - Charles "Chuck" Hampton McCormick

CHARLES “CHUCK” HAMPTON MCCORMICK

Charles, 30, of Raymore , Missouri went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ In The Line of Duty on Sunday January 5, 2020.

Born September 6, 1989 in Alpharetta, Georgia to Melanie (Warren) and Mark McCormick. Charles was a Firefighter/Paramedic with the West Peculiar Fire Protection District and formerly worked for the South Metro Fire Protection District in Missouri and the Cherokee County Fire Dept in Georgia. On September 7, 2011 Charles married Rachel Stevens and together had 3 sons. Charles loved to be in the outdoors and “messing” with all sorts of things. He was very passionate for animals and had a special bond with his dog, Aiden. He enjoyed both listening to music and playing his guitar. Charles loved to tinker and had a cheerful, can do attitude. Charles was a family man and his whole world centered around his wife and sons and was a loving, thoughtful, supportive son and brother.

Charles was preceded in death by his father, Mark Hampton McCormick; paternal grandparents, William Hampton McCormick and Pat McCormick.

Survivors include his wife of 8 years, Rachel; 3 sons, Kyler, Kaiden, and Kolten; mother, Melanie McCormick; 2 brothers, Warren and William McCormick; 2 uncles, Jeff (Teresa) and BensonMcCormick; his aunt, Brenda Powell; maternal grandparents, Charles E. Warren and Aileen Warren; and Becky Seber.

Celebration of Life Services will be 11 AM, Saturday January 11, 2020 at Abundant Life Baptist Church (304 SW Persels Rd. Lees Summit , Missouri 64081). Visitation will be from 4-8 PM on Friday January 10, 2020 at Abundant Life Baptist Church. Firefighters walk through will be at 5:30 PM on Friday. Memorial are suggested to the Family so they may pay it forward.

Florida man earns complimentary stay in Bates County

On January 7, 2020 a Deputy was advised that Joseph Bailey (DOB 9/10/1986) had a warrant out of Marion County, Florida for DUI Manslaughter. The Deputy made contact with Bailey at a business in Amsterdam, MO. Bailey was taken into custody without incident and was transported to the Bates County Jail.

He had a total of 3 warrants out of Florida for Vehicular Manslaughter and Property Damage. His bonds totaled $30,000. Bailey is currently being held in the Bates County Jail awaiting extradition to Marion County, Florida.

Highlights from the Butler City Council meeting last night

Those in attendance were honored to meet the new city administrator Michael West. The public is urged to attend a meet and greet for Mr. West this Friday afternoon 3 to 5 pm at city hall.

Discussion continued regarding the construction of a park on Sunset street behind the Fran apartments. There may be grant money available to construct the park, more details coming soon. 

The city is hoping to partner with local ball associations that use the baseball fields- maintenance of the ball fields is costly and time consuming, the city is hoping the associations can help reduce some of these costs.

Mayor Henry appointed Doncella Liggins to finish out the seat vacated in ward 2 by Mike Irick.

Council voted to award Dana F. Cole a three year contract to perform audits for the city. The savings to the tax payer will be pretty substantial.

A license for medical marijuana grower Local Leaf was approved by the state, which will allow them to move forward on the purchase of the spec building in the industrial park.

The Butler police department recorded 687 incident reports in 2019. Also they have caught two suspects in connection with a string of recent burglaries, more details coming soon.

The Butler fire department responded to a total of 41 alarms last month. 

The council wishes to thank Scott Mallatt for over 30 years of dedication, as he tended the city cemetery for 30+ years and his service is greatly appreciated.

Liggins takes vacant council seat

During the Butler city council meeting last night, Doncella Liggins was sworn in to fill the ward two seat vacated by Mike Irick. Liggins will hold the seat until the April election.

The monthly Men’s Fellowship Breakfast at the Appleton City Church of God (Holiness) will be 7:00 a.m. Saturday, January 11. All the men of the community are invited to join them for a time of great food and fellowship. Jerry Johannigmeier will have a short devotional.

The Knights of Columbus will have their monthly pancake and sausage breakfast at the Knight’s Hall in Montrose on Sunday, January 12 from 8:30 – 10:00 a.m. Treat your family to a hot breakfast you don’t have to cook or clean up. A free will donation will be greatly appreciated

Knitting classes, led by Ann Barclay, have resumed at the Appleton City Library on Tuesday mornings at 10:00 a.m. Come join them and see what you might learn or get support in projects you are working on. Once again DbarJ Quilts Etc will be sponsoring the Elva Gwinn Huffman Essay Contest for non-profit groups. Any non-profit group can write an

essay about their group, their good works, how they would use the quilt to help them raise money for their cause. It is best if you keep it to no more than 2 pages. Due date for the essays in March 31, 2020. They will be read and the quilt will be given out on April 2, which is Elva's birthday. The Appleton City Museum will provide a stroll down memory lane with a Photo Display during the SQC Celebration. Over 150 pictures will be on display of businesses, buildings, area occupations, leaders of the community and basically pictures of the past (anything that isn't current). If anyone would like to donate an 8x10 photo to the Museum for this event, they will be glad to display it. However, they ask for prints that will become the property of the Museum in preserving AC History. The deadline to submit will be April 1, 2020. They may be mailed to: A.C. Museum, 305 N. Maple, ACMO 64724 or you can drop them off workdays at the museum, which are some Wednesday afternoons during the winter.

There will be a community play held during the Sesquicentennial event in June 2020. Abby Sage and Kamber Grishow are producing and directing the production and would like to formally extend their invitation for all those who wish to be a part of the event to please contact them. Whether you are interested in acting, assisting with costumes or set design, or simply want to offer your help with the process but don’t know how, please let them know. Every edition of the “Appleton City Journal” is a new chapter in the annual book documenting Appleton City, its residents and activities. Community newspapers provide the written history of their towns for generations to come. For more than 130 years, the Journal” has done just that for Appleton city and the surrounding areas. Not only do subscribers have the opportunity to clip and save stories of interest in scrapbooks and shoe boxes, copies of the “Journal” are available on microfiche at several locations including the Missouri State Archives in Jefferson City. Websites and Facebook pages may provide immediate attention, but they come and go. The value 20 years from now of a child’s birth announcement clipped from the “Journal” will far outweigh an 8 ½ x 11 piece copy of the Facebook announcement. Think of how many family members have documented an event by clipping out an article and/or photo and saving them for future reference. In order for the “Journal” to do its job of documenting the history, residents, churches, organizations, schools and other entities need to submit information and alert the “Journal” staff of possible story and photo opportunities. Let’s work together to document the 52 weeks of this year for others to enjoy in the future.
