Blood drive coming to Archie




Butler man arrested on warrants

On 1/2/20 around 8:14pm the Butler Police Department arrested 23 year old Harlan A. Boonstra of Butler, Missouri.

Mr. Boonstra was arrested for 1.) Butler Police Department Warrant -Burglary 2nd Degree 2.) Bates County Sheriff's Office Warrant - Stealing ($750 or more).

He was booked into the Bates County Jail in Butler and was placed on a $20,000 cash surety bond.

The Butler FFA Trap Shooting team finished the season 2nd overall. The Area VII trap shooting league takes place at Settles Ford.

The team will participate at the 2020 State competition in late April. 1st High Individual Hunter Nissen, 6th Wyatt Colburn, 9th Gabe Nissen. Way to go boys!

A complicated wintry mess begins today and continues through Sat night. Rain/freezing rain/sleet/snow are all possible.

Obituary - Calvin “Duke” Robert Morris

Calvin “Duke” Robert Morris, 79, Harrisonville, MO, passed away Wednesday, January 8, 2020 at his home.  

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 15, 2020 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville with visitation from 10:00-11:00. Burial will be held in Scott Cemetery in Amsterdam, MO.

Sexual Assault Investigated In Barton County

Early in the morning hours of 1-6-2020 the Barton County Sheriff’s office received a complaint of a past tense sexual assault of a minor. 

The Barton County Sheriff’s Office started the investigation and worked with the Children’s Center in Nevada and the Department of Family services. 

The Sheriff’s Office went to a residence to try and speak with the suspect in the case. On arrival to the residence the suspect was located. He was questioned about the allegation and then taken into custody without incident. He was then placed on a 24 hour hold for investigation.

During that evening A search warrant was served at the residence in Liberal to seize items with evidentiary value. ffefevv feefgefgefefwwefefgefef

At the conclusion of the investigation the Sheriff’s Office sent reports to the Barton County Prosecutor Mike Smalley for consideration of filing formal criminal charges. The suspect in the case is a Amos D. Sumrell, age 29, of Liberal Missouri.
On 1-7-2020 a warrant was served to the suspect on the criminal charges of one count of rape or attempt to rape and one count of sodomy or attempted sodomy. 

Sumrell is in the Barton County Jail with no bond and has a court date on 01-14-2020.

Obituary - Delano S. D. Johnson

Delano S. D. Johnson, 86, of Clinton, Missouri passed away Thursday, January 9, 2020 at the St. Luke's East hospital in Lee's Summit, MO. 

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 18, 2020 at the Bradley & Hadley Funeral Home, Clinton. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., just prior to the funeral service. 

Friends may call noon to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Englewood Cemetery.
