Obituary - Kathleen Hedden

Kathleen Hedden age 94 of Harrisonville, Missouri departed this life on Friday, January 31, 2020 at her home in Harrisonville after a brief illness. She was born March 6, 1925 at home in Latour, Missouri, the daughter of George Alonzo and Maudie Jewel (Tremain) Voyles.

She married Willard W. Hedden on August 25, 1945 in Olathe, Kansas. They resided in Raytown, Missouri until 1962 when they moved to Napa, California (her dream move). They lived in Napa for 22 years until her husband's retirement, then moved to Harrisonville, Missouri in July of 1985.

Kathleen did secretarial work most of her life retiring from Montgomery Ward at the age of 65. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Harrisonville.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Willard and her two sisters, Kathryn Poling and June Cowan. She is survived by her nieces and nephews and their families. She will be greatly missed by all.
Graveside service will be 1:00 p.m., Saturday, February 8, 2020 at the Elm Springs Cemetery, Elm, Missouri.

Mrs. Hedden will lie in state from 11:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m., Friday, February 7, 2020 at the Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Missouri.

Family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Harrisonville Memorial Fund or to the Elm Springs Cemetery Association.


Subject arrested in Barton County

On the morning of 2/3/2020 Law Enforcement searched for a subject that fled from officers on two separate occasions.  Numerous agencies helped in the first searches. 
At approximately 2:00pm on the 3rd of February he was observed by another resident close to a residence on NW 50th rd.  
A trooper from the Missouri State Highway Patrol arrived on scene first and spotted the subject and chased him back into a wooded area trying to detain him.  Numerous Law Enforcement agencies responded once again to the area  to try and locate him.  The Search was called off around 5pm.
At approximately 10:49 a.m. on Feb 4th, 2020  the Barton County Sheriff’s Office received a call from a resident on DD hwy that reported a male walking around some homes wearing a camouflage coat.  Deputies responded to the area and was able to locate the subject on the back side of a home at 141 west DD hwy and he Jereme D. Fenely was taken into custody without any further incident.
Reports are being sent to the Barton County Prosecutor for formal filing of criminal charges against Fenely.

Obituary - Mildred Ruth (Kuntz) Smith

Mildred Ruth Smith, 92, formerly of Vernon and Cedar Counties, passed away on Sunday, February 2, 2020 in Valley Falls, KS. Mildred was born October 5, 1927 in Sweet Springs, MO to James and Margie (Hartman) Kuntz. On May 11, 1946 she married Eldon Lee Smith in El Dorado Springs, MO and to this union two sons were born.

Mildred grew up in Sweet Springs, MO and also in Cedar and Vernon Counties in Missouri. She moved with her family to Wichita, KS, and later to Salina, KS where she worked at Beach Aircraft until her retirement. Mildred was an avid gardener, she loved to fish and travel, and “snow birding” to warmer places during wintertime.

Survivors include one son, Ronald Lee Smith (Lyan), Valley Falls, KS; a daughter-in-law, Opal Smith, Baker, FL; eight grandchildren, Laurie Rowan (Kerry), Baker, FL, Cheryl Smith, Dublin, GA, CAnne Wolfe (Steve), San Francisco, CA, Steven Smith, Ridgecrest, CA, Desiree Dicky (Derek), Ridgecrest, CA, Sarah Long, Abilene, KS, Lysa Mathews (Derick), Moran, KS, and Jessica Long, Tucson, AZ; 18 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband Eldon, she was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers; Earnest Kuntz and Clyde J. Kuntz; a son, Donald Dean Smith.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, February 7, 2020 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada with Pastor Howard Hamilton officiating. Interment will follow in Olive Branch Cemetery, Milo, MO. The family will receive friends from 6-7:00 p.m. on Thursday evening at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested in her memory to the Alzheimer’s Association c/o Ferry Funeral Home.

Motorcycle accident in Cass County

On 2/3/20 around 11:49am the Cass County Sheriff's Office along with Missouri State Highway Patrol troopers responded to a one vehicle motorcycle crash on Missouri 58 Highway at Hoover Road in rural Cass County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2008 Harley Davidson driven by 69 year old Bradford A. Hunziker of Lees Summit, Missouri began to slide on the roadway and driver was ejected.

Mr. Hunziker sustained serious injuries in this accident and he was transported by Life Flight Eagle to Research Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri for treatment.

The Harley was totaled and towed from the scene of the accident by J's Southland Tow.
