Obituary - Jenna Annalea (Jenna "bean”) Yates

Jenna Annalea (Jenna "bean”) Yates, 12, of Strasburg, Missouri, was born, September 10, 2007, in Independence, Missouri, the daughter of Ernest R. and Kara L. (Hale) Yates. She departed this life, Tuesday, February 25, 2020, alongside her brother as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Jenna "bean" was a sixth grade student in the Strasburg C-3 School district where she carried a 4.0 grade average, served as President of the Student Council, was a member of the S.T.E.M. Club, played Saxophone in the band, and was part of the Women’s Ensemble choir. She loved singing and performing; most recently performing in the Strasburg Talent Show, Pleasant Hill Talent Show, and the Pleasant Hill Railroad Days. She was an empathetic, kind, and caring, person and often running lemonade stands raising money for various causes close to her heart. She was active, outgoing, and would light up the room when she walked in.

Jenna "bean" is survived by her parents, Ernie and Kara Yates of Strasburg; paternal grandparents, Thomas and Linda Yates of Pleasant Hill; maternal grandmother, Sharon Hale of Independence; paternal grandfather William Hale of Mound City, Missouri; paternal aunts, Stephanie (and George) Monahan, and Jennifer (and Bob) Bresnahan, both of Blue Springs; maternal aunt, Brea (and Joseph) Burks of Independence; paternal cousins, Alex Monahan, Evan Monahan, Ashlyn Bresnahan and Emma Bresnahan, all of Blue Springs; maternal cousin, Chanz Hale of Independence; her two canine companions, Porter and Memphis; other relatives and a host of many friends.

Visitation will be held 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 3, 2020, at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 4, 2020, at the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the Lone Jack Cemetery.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Strasburg School District and may be sent in care of the funeral home.

Obituary - Thomas Russell Yates

Thomas Russell Yates, 16, of Strasburg, Missouri, was born December 23, 2003, in Independence, Missouri, the son of Ernest R. and Kara L. (Hale) Yates. He departed this life, Tuesday, February 25, 2020, alongside his sister as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Tommy was a sophomore at the Lone Jack C-6 School District. He was active in Mule football, wrestling, baseball, and was a percussionist in the band. Tommy never met a stranger and was an all around good friend to all; especially if you were the underdog. He was fun loving and had a hilarious sense of humor. He had just recently started his first job with Stever Towing.

Tommy is survived by his parents, Ernie and Kara Yates of Strasburg; paternal grandparents, Thomas and Linda Yates of Pleasant Hill; maternal grandmother, Sharon Hale of Independence; maternal grandfather, William Hale of Mound City, Missouri; paternal aunts, Stephanie (and George) Monahan, and Jennifer (and Bob) Bresnahan, both of Blue Springs; maternal aunt, Brea (and Joseph) Burks of Independence; paternal cousins, Alex Monahan, Evan Monahan, Ashlyn Bresnahan and Emma Bresnahan, all of Blue Springs; maternal cousin, Chanz Hale of Independence; his two canine buddies, Porter and Memphis; other relatives and a host of many friends.

Obituary - Ruth E. Merchant

Ruth Evelyn Merchant, 91 of Nevada, passed away on Friday, February 28, 2020 at the Moore-Few Care Center in Nevada following a brief illness. Ruth was born on June 16, 1928 in Nevada to Frank and Dollie (Rapp) Howell. She was married to Lavern Merchant on March 12, 1955 in Nevada and he preceded her in death in 2002.

Ruth was a lifelong resident of Nevada. She was baptized in the Pine Street Baptist Church and attended Nevada High School. She worked as a seamstress at Key Work Clothes for 18 years and later at the Nevada State Hospital for 23 years until her retirement in 1992. Ruth was a longtime member of the Nevada Eagles and the BPO Elks Women’s Auxillary. In her younger years, Ruth enjoyed riding motorcycles, and camping, and loved being with her family.

Survivors include her three children, Karen Smith and her husband Eldon, Joplin, MO, Hank Merchant, Nevada, and Cheryl Peavler of Nevada, two sisters, Elaine Peavler, Nevada, Donna Patton and her husband Larry, Haysville, KS, numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband Lavern, she was preceded in death by two sons, Steven Mitts and Ricky Merchant, and one brother, Frank Howell.

There are no services planned and a private committal will be held at Moore Cemetery.

Obituary - Jerry McLallen

Jerry D. McLallen, age 65, died at Clinton Healthcare and Rehab Center, Clinton, MO, on February 25, 2020.

Jerry was born on November 23, 1954, to Glenda McLallen in Kansas City, Missouri.

Jerry graduated High School, never married and was a Supervisor at Rival Manufacturing here in Clinton for many years.

Jerry is survived by Ronetta (Gregory) Denison, Norman Beasley, Bernetta (Aaron) Roberts, Shayne (Janet) Burkett, Chad (Malinda) Burkett, Amy (John) Carr, Priscilla (Scott) Braun, Cody Roberts, Kieth Roberts, Marjorie McMillin, Monty McLallen, many more family members and friends.

Jerry was preceded in death by his mother Glenda McLallen, uncle and aunt Clarence and Francine Burkett, and grandmother Bernice McLallen.
