Obituary - Helen Irene Townsley

Helen Irene Townsley, age 96, Blue Mound, Kansas passed away on Sunday March 8, 2020. She was born on July 12, 1923 in Ottawa, Kansas the daughter of Roy and Berneice Underwood Emmons. She graduated from Blue Mound High School in the Class of 1942. After high school, during World War II she worked for Boeing Aircraft in Wichita. She married Clarence Townsley on October 4, 1943. Together they ran the IGA store in Blue Mound for twenty-eight years. He preceded her in death on May 4, 2015. 

Helen was also preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Berna Dee Bradley, a brother, Raymond, two sisters, Myra and Dorothy a grandson, Quinton Murrow, and two great grandchildren, Aleesha and Krislynn. She was a member of the Blue Mound Federated Church, and the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed watching the Royals, Chiefs and KU Basketball. Helen is survived by two sons, Gene Townsley and Diana, and Howie Townsley, a daughter Loretta Murrow and Mike, eight grandchildren, Kelley, Stacy, Krissy, Corey, Marri, Deanne, Erin and Niki, thirteen great grandchildren, Kyle, Dara, Wyatt, Carly, Emily, Dylan, Mykayla, Alyson, Colin, Jessica, Brooke, Garrett and Karsyn, one great great grandchild, Ryan and one on the way.

Funeral service will be held 11 am Wednesday, March 11, 2020 at the Blue Mound Federated Church. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 pm Tuesday, March 10 at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, Mound City Chapel. Contributions are suggested to the Blue Mound American Legion Auxiliary. Kansas City man arrested in Vernon County

On 3/8/20 around 1:29am the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Vernon County arrested 57 year old Michael V. Mejia of Kansas City, Missouri.

Mr. Mejia was arrested for 1.) Felony Driving While Intoxicated - Prior Offender 2.) Possession of Marijuana under 35 grams.

He was booked into the Vernon County Jail in Nevada and he is currently listed as bondable.

Roy Arnold "Bud" Smith, age 88 of Butler, Missouri died Saturday, March 7, 2020 at Bates County Memorial Hospital in Butler. He was born November 11, 1931 to Roy Edward and Jennie Louise Morris Smith in Bates County, Missouri. He retired from a 20-year military career in the United States Air Force.

Roy is survived by his wife, Mary of Butler, Missouri; son, Roy Michael Smith and wife Jo of Eustis, Florida; two daughters, Judy Lynn Smith-Brinkman and husband Henry of Sarasota, Florida and Lisa Ann Smith of Leanders, Texas; sister, Louise Clapp of Butler, Missouri; four grandchildren, Jeremy Michael Smith and wife Carrie, Jennifer Chanel Woodard and husband Sergeant Jeremy Scott Woodard, Canyon Marcum Smith and Skyler Storm Smith; and three great-grandchildren, Michael Scott Woodard, Thomas Aaron Smith and Rebecca Claire Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Charles Edward Smith.
