Notes are being sent home with students today!

Dear Parent/Guardian:

In light of the recent global Coronavirus outbreak, Miami R-I School District remains vigilant in the health and well-being of our students. As with all viruses and infections our current policies and cleaning procedures are active with an increased emphasis on disinfecting (desks, lockers, door knobs, bathrooms, etc.).

Please be aware that the Coronavirus symptoms are very similar to the common cold but can attack the lungs in those with compromised immune systems and the elderly; also to those that are predisposed to chronic lung conditions such as COPD, asthma, and chronic bronchitis. The main symptoms include fever, cough, and shortness of breath.

Influenza A and B are still circulating in our community as well. Please be considerate of others before sending your child to school with a fever, persistent cough, or excessive nasal secretions. In some cases, we may ask you to pick up your child from school with a low grade fever less than 100 degrees in an attempt to curtail a virus or infection.

Please be patient with us! We have the best interest of all our students at heart! If you have any questions, you may contact the school nurse on Tues. and Thurs.

Obituary - Kim C. Scott

Kim C. Scott, age 63, of Raymore, Missouri passed away at Research Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri on Monday, March 9, 2020.

A visitation service will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Monday, March 16, 2020 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 310 Johnston Pkwy, Raymore, Missouri 64083. Immediately following will be a funeral service at 3:00 p.m. An interment will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 17, 2020 at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery at Higginsville, 20109 Bus, Missouri-13, Higginsville, Missouri 64037.

Kim was born in Norfolk, Virginia on July 29, 1956 to Paul Southworth Jr. and Shirley A. (Eubanks) Southworth and grew up in Atlanta, Georgia. After graduating Shamrock High School Kim furthered her education receiving a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Emory University in Georgia. After graduating as an honor student, she worked for a short while at the National Primate Center among other various jobs. However, Kim was most proud of her career as a flight attendant with Continental, Delta, and Air Atlanta. She also exercised her creative side, playing happy characters at Disney and acting the part of “bad girls” at the FBI National Academy. In the late winter of 1991, she was joined in marriage with her husband Russel W. Scott III on February 12th. Together they were blessed with two daughters, Jeana and Bonny. In life, Kim was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and the Lions Club in Raymore, Missouri. She also was a member of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League through the church, was a Mustang enthusiast, and enjoyed reading mysteries.

Kim was preceded in death by her father, Paul C. Southworth Jr.

She is survived by her loving husband of over twenty-nine years, Russel W. Scott III; mother Shirley Lynch; two daughters, Jeana Ruthann Scott and Bonny Russellyn Scott; granddaughter, Renny Faith Scott; two brothers, Paul Southworth III (Natalia) and Tim Southworth; and three sisters, Teresa Campaign (Wayne), Jackie Ganas (Ray), and Rachel Hodgson (Luke).

Obituary - Rex Lee Shandy

Rex Lee Shandy of Lake Annette, Missouri was born on September 7, 1962 in Olathe, Kansas the son of Dean Marvin and Patsy Sue (Hendrickson) Shandy. He departed this life on Friday, March 6, 2020 at Cass Regional Medical Center, Harrisonville, Missouri at the age of 57 years, 5 months and 28 days.

He was united in marriage to Pamela Jo Sundquist on September 11, 1981 in DeSoto, Kansas.

Rex always worked outside jobs and was employed by APAC as a tack driver. He was a life member of Teamsters Local #541 in Kansas City, Missouri. Rex was a great family man, husband, son, brother, uncle and friend, He was the head of the family and always had a nick name for his family and friends. His shop was always open for working on cars or talking with friends. Rex loved reading westerns and watching the show Moonshiners.

He was preceded in death by his father, Dean and his sister, Rebecca Sue Shandy.

Rex is survived by his wife, Pamela Jo Shandy of the home; 3 sons, Brian Lee Shandy (Melissa), Belton, Missouri, Cody Ray, Santa Cruz, California, Cory Elrod, Kansas City, Missouri; his mother, Patsy Shandy, Cleveland, Missouri; his sister, Deb Shandy, Cleveland, Missouri; special friends and family, Cody, Wendell, Randy, Will, Jeff, Tony, Lane, Chrissy, Crystal, Ellen, J.D., Melinda, Missy, Hannah, Maddy, Raelyn, Ryan, Kyle, Saylor, Rose, "Little" J.D. and his constant companion, his dog Fred.

Rex was the one who keep us together. Why can't we stay like this forever?

The family will receive friends Sunday, March 15, 2020 at The home of Patsy Shandy, 24618 S. Groh Rd., Cleveland, Missouri , beginning at 10:00 a.m. with A Celebration of Life Service to follow.

Exciting news from Farmers Insurance In Butler

Well....we have some super exciting news!! Our agency has some awesome plans in the near future!

Since we absolutely love our spot on Orange Street and we couldn't imagine being any other place, we decided to make our new home right across the street!

We recently added staff and some new lines of business, so we honestly have just outgrown our space (including parking haha!)

We don't have an exact timeline or details to share quite yet, BUT we do know that we will be offering a drive-thru window! (No, not to pull up and get a quote haha!- but to pull up and drop off papers, or pick up ID cards, etc!) For example, we have watched clients with small children asleep in the car hesitate to get out and walk in, or our Medicare clients that don't want to get out to drop off one piece of paper, etc.

PLUS we will now have some space to do more community events and things, like our safety day, etc!

We are so very thankful to be a part of this community! We are invested and committed to serving our clients- we are so grateful for the support we have

Updated Obituary - Larry Gene Bogan

Larry Gene Bogan, age 75, Prescott, Kansas passed away on Monday, March 9, 2020 at his home. He was born on June 11, 1944 in Metz, Missouri the son of Carl and Novella Boston Bogan. He graduated from Hume High School in the Class of 1962. He married his High School sweetheart Harriett Horton on April 11, 1964. 

He worked in Rich Hill, at the Leeds General Motors Plant in Kansas City before he and Harriet bought the family farm in 1970. Larry was a man who had a tremendous work ethic and a can do attitude. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, slow pitch softball and playing basketball. Basketball was a tradition started with his mother that has been passed down through four generations. More than anything, Larry loved his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Gerald, a grandson, Brett, and mother and father in law, Manetta and Harry Horton. 

Larry is survived by his wife, Harriet, a son Loren Bogan and Kim, two daughters, Loree White and Mike, and Laina Stoughton and Troy, two sisters, Joyce Cannon and Janice Koehn, sister in law, Sharon Bogan, sixteen grandchildren, Bryon, Kris, Robert, Stefani, Kaley, Ashton, Brianna, Brandon, Brayden, Blaine, Blake, Nikolas, Brooklyn, Kyrsten, Brenlyn, and Brilyn, sixteen great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Funeral service will be held 10 am Thursday, March 12, 2020 at the Hume Christian Church. Burial will be in the Hume Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 pm Wednesday, March 11, 2020 at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, Pleasanton Chapel. Contributions are suggested to Hume Cemetery or Hume School. Bates County Coroner seeking public assistance

Emil W. Krug was a 64 year-old gentleman who died in Bates County on February 28, 2020. It is believed he had previously been homeless in the Butler, Missouri area for some time. 

Mr. Krug is believed to have family members but likely is estranged. Attempts to locate and contact those family members has been unsuccessful to date.
