Notice from the Butler Food Pantry

This week, the Food Pantry began serving clients for April.

Here are a few reminders:

Contact Number - 660-679-3951

We cannot assist with loading your items at this time, please bring assistance with you if you need it.

If you are not planning to come at your appointed time, please call and cancel/reschedule.

Hours of service:

Monday 12:30pm-3:00pm, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 8:30am-11:00am and 12:30pm to 3:00pm

We ask that you not arrive for service on Monday mornings as that is when the Harvesters truck arrives with our food supply for the week and we need time to unload and store it.

Clients will stay in their vehicle and line up on the south side of the building where you normally load up your groceries. A staff member will come out and ask your name and family size. Food Pantry staff members will then gather your allotted groceries and bring them outside and load them on the edge of the dock. When they are finished, they will let you know that you can step out and gather your items. You must load them.

Please stay in your vehicles until we tell you to get out and load your items. Please consider wearing a mask or scarf for our sakes. Stay at least 6 ft away from Food Pantry staff.

We ask for your patience and gratitude for the seven staff members and two volunteers working hard to keep this essential service in operation.

BHS Alumni Meeting Canceled for 2020

With the uncertainty of the Covid-19/Corona Virus and after much discussion by officers, the officers have unanimously determined it is in the best interest of the BHS Alumni to cancel the Alumni Meeting scheduled for Saturday, May 23, 2020. Class reunions may choose to meet at a later date if they so desire, and will have the opportunity to nominate a teacher for the Teacher Hall-of-Fame at the 2021 Alumni Meeting. Three 2020 Teacher Hall-of-Fame nominees will be elected as well as three 2021 Teacher Hall-of-Fame nominees will be elected at the 2021 Alumni Meeting. Officers will remain the same for the coming year. Any questions can be directed to President Annette Herman Anderson or Secretary-Treasurer Gwen Garnett Tarvin.

Due to the circumstances surrounding this year’s Alumni, the Directory will not be published until May 2021. Updated information is still being taken and will be in the new Directory up until April 1, 2021. Please continue sending updates including deaths, address and email changes to Secretary-Treasurer Gwen Garnett Tarvin at bhs_alumni_assoc@yahoo.com or mail to: 1510 SW County Road 1067, Butler, MO 64730.

Dues remain at $7.00, and will greatly help to keep our organization going. Dues, donations, or scholarship money may be sent to Gwen as well.

We regret having to make this decision. Letters will not be mailed this year due to the cost of postage so please let your fellow classmates know.

Sincerely,
Officers of BHS Alumni

Best regards, Gwen Tarvin Secretary-Treasurer, BHS Alumni Association

Bates County Memorial Hospital: Celebrating Patient Access Week 2020

Join BCMH in recognizing our patient access employees for Patient Access Week, April 5-11, 2020.

In the face of our quickly changing healthcare environment, there is one constant: the Patient Access department.

The first interaction patients have often begins with the Access department, which makes it so necessary to have a friendly face to connect with.

"We look for positive representatives with a friendly demeanor when hiring," says BCMH Access Manager Mark Mancuso. "Our access team also raises the bar to provide a personal escort for our patients to ensure they arrive safely, which provides an increase in our already Exceptional Patient Experience.

Now more than ever, patient access staff members must be ready to handle a variety of situations and tasks.

"It has been proven that skills can be trained, but kindness and warmth must be present for the first impression. Our job is to ease their concerns in a caring and efficient manner," Mancuso said.

BCMH is proud of our employees who are handling the front lines of our hospital and clinics with grace and courage. Once this crisis has abated and life returns to normal, the entire Patient Access Staff will gather to enjoy the company we've missed during this time.

FLASHBACK: Butler Roller Rink

PAUL STAMPER readies another record (circa 1960's) for skaters at the Butler Roller Rink located on business 71 highway, current building behind the former Sonic location. Plenty of good times were had, including budding romance for many over the years. Besides some bruised buns and the occasional wall smack, skaters enjoyed limbo, skating backwards, couples skate and a penny pickup, which required true accuracy and skill to avoid a smashed digit. - Our thanks to Bruce Furman
