With the restrictions on the number of people who can gather in one location, it's going to be difficult to bring our community together when a death occurs. Visitations and funerals are more than just ceremonies--they are avenues to bring family and friends together to support one another. If you know Patricia Kay Raybourn, a card or phone call to her family would go a long way in remembering her. If you don't have family addresses, feel free to mail notes or cards to us at the Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel (1301 N. Orange St., Butler, MO 64730) and we will send to the family.

Vernon County Health Department Reports First Case of COVID-19

Vernon County Health Department is announcing its first positive case of novel coronavirus (COVID-19). The case is NOT travel-related and the patient is a male and is quarantined at home.

Health Department staff are working in coordination with the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS) to determine any close contacts of that individual who were possibly exposed. If there were any, health officials will provide guidance to these individuals and monitor them closely for the development of symptoms.

The health department urges the public to take appropriate precautions including good hygiene, social distancing and limiting in-person interactions. If you are sick, particularly with a fever and a cough, or shortness of breath, stay home and contact your health care provider or urgent care center for guidance regarding symptoms and next steps.

“The best tips for prevention are still social distancing and proper hand washing,” said Steve Durnell, director of Vernon County Health Department. “Staying home if you are sick and avoiding close contact with others will help us limit any spread.”

If soap and water are not readily available, use a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol. Cover all surfaces of your hands and rub them together until they feel dry. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands. IF YOU ARE SICK: You should wear a facemask when you are around other people (e.g., sharing a room or vehicle) and before you enter a healthcare provider's office. If you are not able to wear a facemask (for example, because it causes trouble breathing), then you should do your best to cover your coughs and sneezes, and people who are caring for you should wear a facemask if they enter your room EMH is taking all appropriate and necessary precautions for the safety and well-being of our community.

Governor Parson’s executive order moving the municipal election from April 2 to June 2 this year, allows time to have communication concerning what Proposition K.I.D.S. (Appleton City Schools levy) is all about. With the arrival of social distancing and restrictions on public activity, the options are limited. One total safe way is through email. With this in mind, AC School has created the following email account: propkids2020!@yahoo.com to give people in the school district a way of asking questions and receiving information. They will still be using newspaper articles and the district website and facebook pages to provide information about what Proposition K.I.D.S. is all about. Questions received through propikids2020!@yahoo.com will help them to be clear and thorough in answering your questions. If conditions improve between now and June 2, where public gathering are no longer a threat, they will look into scheduling a public forum but for now, this will hopefully get the discussion going.
