Update: Vehicle Pursuit Results in Seizure of Gun and Drugs in Cass County

UPDATE 5/17/2020– Today the Cass County Prosecutor charged both subjects arrested on Saturday following a pursuit on I-49.

The driver of the vehicle Eric M. Kolich, 38, Kansas City Kansas, was charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and Felony Resisting Arrest by Fleeing for the incident on Saturday. Bond was set at $15,000 Cash Only in that case.
Kolich is currently wanted in Johnson County, Kansas on a felony charge of Fleeing LEO Felony Reckless.

The passenger, Justin L. Devault, 34, Kansas City, Kansas, was charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, bond set at $10,000 Cash Only.

The firearm recovered had been reported stolen from a resident in Cass County during 2018.

Both men are currently in custody at the Cass County Jail. Charges related to narcotics are pending results from a state laboratory.

Officer Involved Shooting In Belton

The Cass County Sheriff's Office is on the scene of an officer involved shooting in the 7500 block of Crown Trailer Park, Belton.

Around 8:00 am Cass County Deputies and officers with the Belton Police Department responded to a reported disturbance. 

Two Belton Officers assisting with the call arrived on scene first and located the suspect and another party. During the incident the suspect was shot. The subject was then transported to an area hospital with serious injuries.

The Cass County Sheriff's Office is investigating.

Obituary - Arthur “Art” Ray Lovewell

Arthur “Art” Ray Lovewell, 82, Latour, Missouri, departed this life on May 14, 2020 in his home surrounded by his family. Art was born on February 10, 1938 on a farm near Collins, Missouri to Oliver Edward and Clara Mae (Gardner) Lovewell. Art married Barbara Riffle on September 5, 1959 in Miami, Oklahoma. They lived their 60 years together and raised their children, Arnetta, Andrea, and Randy, on a farm near LaTour, Missouri.

Art was a lifelong farmer, raising cows and pigs. He was a truck driver for Stahl Specialty Company for 37 years. After his retirement from Stahl’s, he continued to drive trucks for local companies. Art was passionate about his family. He enjoyed taking his grandchildren fishing and hunting and taught them to drive and shoot guns. Later in life, Arthur frequented local coffee shops where he enjoyed sharing stories, catching up with his friends, and making new friends.

Art was a member of the Holden United Methodist Church where he was especially fond of coffee, doughnuts, and conversation, both before and after the service.

Art was preceded in death by his father, Oliver, and his mother, Clara Mae; a sister, Mollie Famuliner; and two brothers, Dave Lovewell and Tom Lovewell. Art is survived by his wife, Barbara, of the home; his children, Arnetta and Steve Lango, LaTour, MO; Andrea Evans, Holden, MO; Randall (Randy) and JoLynn Lovewell, Creighton, MO; a brother, Ed and Debbie Lovewell, Independence, MO. Grandchildren Tara and Cody Jolliff, Grapevine, TX; Nathan and Kristin Harris, Pleasant Hill, MO; Bryan and Kati Evans, Bentonville, AR; Bryce and Kerry Lovewell, Topeka, KS; Alice Evans, Holden, MO; Hunter Lovewell and Baylee Lovewell, Creighton, MO. Great-grandchildren Adaline, Barrett, and Brant. Art was also fond of the additional Lango family members he gained later in his life, with many kids calling him “Pa.”

Cremation. A Celebration of Life Gathering will be 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m, Saturday, May 23, 2020 at the Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Missouri.

Family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the Holden United Methodist Church Memorial Fund.


Two injured in rollover accident in rural Butler

On 5/17/20 around 12:55am the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Bates County along with Bates County Sheriff's Deputies and Bates County EMS responded to a one vehicle rollover accident on Rice Road just north of CR 1502 in rural Butler.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 1996 Chevrolet 1500 driven by 19 year old Anthony H. Dickerson of Kansas City, Missouri traveled off the right side of the roadway, Struck a concrete block and began to overturn before coming to rest off the roadway and in the east ditch on its top.

Mr. Dickerson along with a passenger in his vehicle 17 year old Kenneth L. Gabriel of Butler, Missouri both sustained moderate injuries in this accident and both were transported to Bates County Memorial Hospital for treatment.

The truck was totaled and towed from the scene of the accident by Douty's Tow of Butler, Missouri.

At 1:14am the Missouri State Highway Patrol arrested 19 year old Anthony H. Dickerson for 1.) Driving While Intoxicated resulting in a crash. He was released to seek medical treatment for his injuries.

We would like to remind everyone of a few dates before the June 2nd (Originally April 7th) Election.

May 20th- Last day to REQUEST an absentee ballot to be mailed. ( THIS IS FOR MAIL OUT BALLOTS ONLY. YOU CAN STILL ABSENTEE VOTE IN PERSON IN OUR OFFICE UNTIL 6.1.2020). Requests MUST be in our office by 4:30pm.

MAY 21st- 10am Public testing of Election Equipment for June 2nd Election @ Cass County Clerk's Office.

May 30th- Open from 8am-12pm for absentee voting.

June 1st- Last day to absentee vote IN PERSON. Office closes at 5pm.

June 2nd- ELECTION DAY! Polls open 6am-7pm.
