Bates County Health Center confirms 2 more cases of COVID-19

The Bates County Health Center has confirmed two new positive cases of COVID-19 in Bates County.

The new cases include a female in her 40’s and a female in her teens both from Amoret. Both of these are family members to a positive case. Bates County Health Center is working to identify and contact any individual that may have come in contact with any of these individuals which may have put them at risk and will monitor them for any signs and symptoms of illness.


Individuals should continue to practice social distancing, clean/disinfect any high touched surfaces, wash their hands with soap and water routinely, use hand sanitizer if soap and water is not available and avoid touching your face (especially eyes, nose & mouth). It is up to each and everyone of us to stop the spread of this disease!


Obituary - Melissa K. Meier

Melissa K. Meier, age 48, of Raymore, Missouri passed away on Sunday, May 31, 2020.

A celebration of Melissa’s life will be held with a visitation on Saturday, June 6, 2020 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Cullen Funeral Home, 612 W. Foxwood Dr. Raymore, Missouri 64083.

Melissa was born on July 19, 1971 to Octavio V. Lorenzo and Mary Kay (Duff) Lorenzo in Kansas City, Missouri. After graduating high school, Melissa continued her schooling creating for herself a career in education as a first-grade teacher at Scott Elementary. Melissa completed her master’s degree in Education at Webster University. On June 8, 1996, she was joined in marriage with her husband, Chris Meier. Melissa was a member of the National Education Association and loved quilting. In life she loved her animals, adopting many from Wayside Waifs in Kansas City. She loved spending time with her dog, Gizzy and her cat, Wanda.

Melissa leaves behind her loving husband of twenty-four years, Chris Meier; parents, Octavio and Mary Kay Lorenzo; sister Victoria Clymore (Jeffrey); brother in law, Marc Meier (Amanda); mother and father in law, Marlene and Wilhelm Meier; and seven nieces and nephews, Alexander and Ryan Clymore, Ayla, Carsten, Niklas, Bastian, and Matilda Meier.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Wayside Waifs, 3901 Martha Truman Rd., Kansas City, Missouri 64137 or HELP Humane, 17122 Bel-Ray Place, Belton, MO 64012.

Stolen travel trailer in Henry County

The Henry County Sheriffs Office has taken a report of a stolen 2019 Cherokee Forest River Alpha Wolf 28 foot travel trailer that was stolen around the Tightwad, Missouri area.

Update: Oklahoma trucker escapes injury in Bates County rollover accident

On 6/2/20 around 10:15pm the Missouri State Highway Patrol along with the Adrian Fire Department and Bates County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a semi truck rollover accident on 18 Highway at Route CC west of Adrian.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 1998 Peterbilt driven by 36 year old Joe M. Quick of Tahlequah, Oklahoma swerved to miss a animal in the roadway and traveled off the right side and overturned.

Mr. Quick sustained minor injuries in this accident and he refused medical treatment at the scene of the accident.

The semi truck was totaled and towed from the scene of this accident by J's Southland Tow.
