On July 31, 2020, Susie French retired from Bates County Memorial Hospital after 44 years of service.

On behalf of the hospital, Dr. John Bustle, CEO, presented Susie with a beautiful wall pendulum clock. Susie began her employment in 1976 as a Registered Nurse.

Throughout her career at BCMH, Susie has provided compassionate patient care to our inpatients. As a leader for the organization, Susie has mentored many new nursing graduates.

She has experienced 44 years of changes in healthcare, with the integration of technology in providing patient care. To Susie, her patients were an extension of her family.

Serving our community for 44 years is a testament to her commitment and dedication to the nursing profession. Her presence on the nursing unit will be missed.

Susie has traveled throughout the United States, with only four state capitols left to visit. She and her husband, Paul, intend to continue their travels and enjoy retirement together.

All houses north of Ft. Scott Street

Week of September 21st – September 25th , 2020
All houses south of Ft. Scott Street

The City of Butler, in cooperation with Bates County Disposal, will be conducting this citywide clean up for residential properties.

BATES COUNTY DISPOSAL will pick up old furniture, appliances, paint, batteries and miscellaneous junk. Your clean-up items or trash should be separated from your regular weekly trash but should still be at the curbside. This service is for residential properties only and there is a one pickup load limit per household. They will NOT pick up tires or construction/building materials such as lumber, plywood or shingles. Households with larger amounts must make special arrangements with Bates County Disposal by calling 679-7604.

THE CITY OF BUTLER will pick up your normal yard waste of brush and limbs no larger than 6” in diameter. These must be placed at the curb and separate from the trash pickup for Bates County Disposal. Leaves must be bagged in City of Butler leaf bags in order to be collected. There is also a one pickup load limit of brush items per household.

Items not picked up must be removed from the curb immediately.

PLEASE have your trash or brush ready at curbside by 6:00 a.m. on Monday of your clean-up week. They will not make return trips after they have completed a street. This is a free service provided by the City in the spring and fall of each year. Residents are reminded not to place trash at the curb more than one week in advance or you will be subject to code enforcement action.

Direct Assistance to Farmers through the Coronavirus Food Assistance Program (CFAP)

Direct Assistance to Farmers through the Coronavirus Food Assistance Program (CFAP)

Deadline to apply is August 28, 2020

CFAP provides vital financial assistance to producers of agricultural commodities who have suffered a five-percent-or-greater price decline due to COVID-19 and face additional significant marketing costs as a result of lower demand, surplus production, and disruptions to shipping patterns and the orderly marketing of commodities.

Non-specialty crops eligible for CFAP payments include malting barley, canola, corn, upland cotton, millet, oats, soybeans, sorghum, sunflowers, durum wheat, and hard red spring wheat. Hard red winter wheat and soft red winter wheat are currently ineligible for CFAP. Producers will be paid based on inventory subject to price risk on hand as of January 15, 2020. A payment will be made based 50 percent of a producer’s 2019 total production or the 2019 inventory as of January 15, 2020, whichever is smaller, multiplied by the commodity’s applicable payment rates. Livestock eligible for CFAP include cattle, lambs, yearlings and hogs.

The total payment will be calculated using the sum of the producer’s number of livestock sold between January 15 and April 15, 2020, multiplied by the payment rates per head, and the highest inventory number of livestock between April 16 and May 14, 2020, multiplied by the payment rate per head. For dairy, the total payment will be calculated based on a producer’s certification of milk production for the first quarter of calendar year 2020. For eligible specialty crops, the total payment will be based on the volume of production sold between January 15 and April 15, 2020. A full list of eligible crops can be found on farmers.gov/cfap.

All production, sales, and inventory of eligible commodities and livestock must be subject to price risk as of January 15, 2020. Unpriced inventory or production subject to price risk means any production, sales, and inventory that is not subject to an agreed-upon price in the future through a forward contract, agreement, or similar binding document. The producer’s eligible commodity and/or livestock must still be at risk of price fluctuations after January 15, 2020 to be eligible for the payment. Producers can apply for assistance now.

Applications will be accepted through August 28, 2020. The Bates County FSA office is open for business by phone appointment only. While program delivery staff will continue to come into the office, they will be working with producers by phone and using online tools whenever possible.

More information, the CFAP application and eligibility forms, please visit farmers.gov/cfap. For questions please contact the Bates County office at 660-679-6112
