Obituary - Donald "Don" Lee Laffoon
Cremation. A Memorial Graveside service will be held 1:00 p.m., Saturday, September 12, 2020 with Military Honors at the Gunn City Cemetery, Gunn City, Missouri.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Missouri.
Shepherd’s celebrate Sliver Anniversay
Nick and Elaine Shepherd celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary on Saturday, August 15th with an Anniversary party with a host of family and friends at the Hume Legion Hall. Congratulations!
Adam Swarens and Amber Patrick were married August 22 in a beautiful outdoor wedding at their home in Hume. Following the wedding ceremony, they boarded the fire truck driven by Ronnie Pruitt and were delivered to the Legion Hall for a reception. Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Adam Swarens.
Miss Aunah Jean Yarick celebrated her 1st birthday at her home on Saturday, August 29. The “Wild One” party was hosted by her parents, Andy and Cheyenne. Happy Birthday, Miss Aunah who will turn one on September 3rd.
Hume United Methodist Church News: We held our annual Teacher’s Luncheon on Thursday, August 27. We had to do things a little different this year. We provided the teachers with carry-out trays and goodie bags. The teachers and staff then returned to the school to enjoy their meal. Best of luck to a new school year!
We are going to put Kid’s Klub on hold for now and hopefully will be able to start at the first of the year. For now check out face book every Wednesday for a little story to year was a little different, we filled carry-outs for the teachers, who then returned to the school and enjoyed their lunch share with your children.
Michael Wriston filled the pulpit on Sunday for Pastor Eric England.
Good luck to the Hume Hornets and Staff as they were able to start school on August 31st. Here is to a great year!

The Butler R-V School District is aware of a student at the High School Campus who tested positive for COVID-19. We are working diligently with the Bates County Health Department to follow the protocols in place as we deal with this issue. Other students who have had prolonged exposure or direct contact will be contacted by the Health Department and advised to quarantine.
Please remember the district is unable to release many details due to confidentiality procedures. While we are hopeful the number of incidents will be minimal, it is best to remember that announcements such as this will likely occur throughout this school year. We encourage all to continue to social distance where possible, frequently sanitize your hands and monitor health symptoms to help limit the spread of COVID.Please contact the school or the Bates County Health Department for questions.
Obituary - Janice Elaine Moore
Janice was born May 21, 1942 in St. Joseph, MO, a daughter of Everett and Elizabeth (Hackett) Corkins. She grew up in Dearborn, MO where she attended school. She married J. L. Moore April 11, 1959.
Janice enjoyed flowers, plants, painting and thrift stores. She was a member of the Southside Christian Center in Kansas City where she taught Sunday school for many years, as well as working in other ministries in the church. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend, and will be missed by many.
Janice was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, J. L. Moore, a son, Jerry Moore, a grandson, Travis, a sister, Blanche Corkins, and two brothers, Bill and George Corkins. She is survived by four daughters, Debbie Chaney, Paula Krause, Kim Holmes, all of Kansas City, MO and Julie Etter, Belton; six sisters, Alice Jones, Steele, MO, Helen Marks and Phyllis Wright, both of Tonganoxie, KS, Linda Metcalfe and Olivia Boos, both of Atchison, KS, and Joan Marley, Portland, OR; two brothers, Gary Corkins, Tennessee and Rick Corkins, Kingwood, TX; 16 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff at Foxwood Springs who have taken great care of our mother.
